  1. there are no records of darkorbit before the new client . i am looking for some confirmation of when darkorbit was available to the US as the USA server before it became USA EAST and USA WEST . I remember playing this game in 2003 when i got our first computer . but as most players today only know the new client , none will believe it was here before . if anyone has any proof , or if any of the bigpoint staff can confirm this , i will point them to this thread . a little education in history never hurts lol

    I think I know what you're talking about - I too had a version that came on a computer I had. I tried to get my old Dark Orbit game back, which is how I got into this game. It was quite a different game (I wish it hadn't been disabled - I had the paid version), not an online or multi-player game. I've often wished it would be integrated here - you did battle with aliens on planets (starting on Nibiru), in twisting and turning canyons, and the minerals you picked up - malidium - were traded in and used to upgrade your ship. I preferred that game in many ways to the "PvP" of this game - you could be a little guy and still have fun.

    As to the age of this game, someone else will know that better than I. I started about a week before Skylab came out, so in that regard I am a relative newbie. ;)

  3. in the old client there were no "goli skins" it was just the plain old goliath. there was no skylab, no x4, rsb, hellstorm, none of the five "new" ships ie... diminisher, venom etc, there was no pilot bio, everything that we take for granted now didnt exist back then. when you went hunting each player had x3 as their elite ammo . and more pvp battles were won with skill rather than firepower. not many know that the goliath and the vengy are relatively new ships. the bigboy used to be the heavy hitter and i believe the nostromo was the speedy ship , the goli and vengy both came out later

    I'm pretty sure the Goliath and the venge have been in the game since day 1.

    It came out in late 2006.

    The old client was alright, I much prefer mid 2011 DarkOrbit than the old client though. The pilot bio made this game a faster pace but not so quick so that fights last too short as they do now with LF4. I thought the old client was too slow and sluggish for the most part, it was fun, just the new client did add nice features.

  5. Correct me if I'm wrong Admin or Moderators who may peak in here but, I think the game was released December 11, 2006 (late 2006 like Okapi said).
    The Y3 (Year 3) Birthday gate came out December 11, 2009 obviously minus 3 years you have the original date i posted.
    Why do I know this? Well DO's birthday is 1 day (not DATE) before mine. :p

    Edit: Also I think Okapi is 100% Correct I think the Game was at its best when the Pilot bio came out, as the old fat lasers looked so much more terrifying, not to mention the battles lasted a bit longer but not to long like they did in 2007 when most people only used x3 ammunition that only did 13-17k in damage.

  6. Off hand cant remember the exact date old age and all ;) and been here from day one and I would roughly say 16th -23rd Nov 2006 and Bigpoint it self was founded 2002.

    Was playing before gg were out etc .

    Everywhere I look I see Dec 11th and I know for a fact that's 100% wrong I would prove it if I still hd my original account but cant.

  7. the official birthday of DO is dec 11th 2006 but global europe and german servers was mid 2006 . but the game was a downloadable game from wild tangent before that and was completely different and was a single player game then. the release date was oct 8 2001 for the wildtangent version

  8. That's true because I played the german servers first because there was no gb1 then.

    There was a different version of darkorbit, but there was an old client of this version of the game.

    The original Darkorbit developed by Wild Tangent that was discontinued, was from 2001 as far as I know.

    =====

    BIO which came out after the new client, was the beginning of the end of DO;

    it stroked the ego of weak bullies and was the Catalysis for the profit at any cost that destroyed the game;

    removing the ability for anyone without significant BIO' being able to compete on a level playing field.

    If BIO had been a cheap introduction to the game that anyone could get in full within a few months, then things may have been different.

    But sadly it was the beginning of WW and cheats having far to much strength so creating devastating imbalance in the game.

    Anyone that thinks BIO was good I would suggest, got it before most and did not have the skill to compete without the massive advantage from BIO.

  10. Disregarding the first part of the post and, focusing on the second part.
    Yes the pilot bio was and still is expensive but, to say those who liked it did not have the skill to compete is a tad out of hand.
    Started playing way before bio came out and plenty of skill had; I speak for myself and maybe a few others when it comes to liking the pilot bio for PvP it had nothing to do with my skill level, I simply find it was more interesting with the new graphics of lasers and also a new change to game other than a few new gates....

    Also as far is it concerns my personal opinion I love having the advantage over other players in PvP, after all PvP is about tactics and in order to improve upon tactics you need the best of equipment; which in part requires money.

    I see it as no one in this game has any right to judge the people that play this game as "un-smart" or of no skill simply because they were more successful in life and money to through down the drain and not think twice. :p

    Thank You

    Rather than going so far off topic in this thread I have started a new thread on the subject of BIO >here<
