    how come some ships have 9 or 10 drones

    They have special Apis and Zeus drones, look in the skylab!

    More specifically, the Skylab and tech center. The 9th and 10th drone are the Apis and Zeus, they can be bought instantly from the tech center or you can get parts from booty boxes to bring the price down then buy them, the price of each drone is 25% lower on corresponding booty box event days, Zeus day boxes give Zeus and Apis parts and a very small chance of a complete Zeus, Apis day boxes give only Apis parts with a still very small chance of getting a full Apis, both events occur usually once or twice a month.

    Hi Ernest3203,

    The above answers are completely correct (thanks guys :) ). You can have upto 8 iris or flax drones, 9 and 10 are apis and zeus respectively and can be crafted in the tech center (or purchased direct if you are really feeling rich).
