I started playing DO again after about a year of not playing. I started a new ship from scratch on Global Europe 1. The thing is that I have really bad FPS problems when playing the game. I just can't stop noticing it and it makes my gameplay frustrating. My PC is fairly decent and should be able to run DO without any problems whatsoever. Last time I played DO I used my old laptop that was slower than my current PC and I remember playing without any issues or FPS drops.

    Specs:
    Intel Core i5 - 4570 @ 3.20 GHz
    RAM: 8 GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 (1 GB)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64

What could the reason be as to me not being able to play DO lag-free? Is there any way to fix it? I've tried changing all the settings to low.

Another thing is that I get minor delays. My internet connection speed is perfect and never lags itself, but on GE1 I can feel the delays, an example could be looting bonus boxes; 1-2 second delays before telling me what I received from the box.

I know this is the UK forums, but I'd like to know where the Global Europe 1 server is located. I can't be bothered to check netstat in CMD for the IP.

Here are my results from BP Ping Test:
    pinging pingnue cannot connect
    pinging pingashv max:213 min:155 avg:168 dev:3 ms
    pinging pinglaxv max:252 min:217 avg:248 dev:3 ms

    download speed: dllaxv... speed:500 kb/sec
    download speed: dlnue... error

    Hi there,

Can i ask whether you have tried various browsers and/or changing the in-game graphics settings?

The reason i ask regarding the browser is because this tends to be something highly personal, a browser which is good for one user may not be good for another, so experimenting with different browsers to find the best one for you may be able to help reduce the issue you are having. I do however, advise that you avoid experimental/beta version of browsers since they often cause various issues.

As for the in-game settings, it is very self explanatory that having the graphics on high will increase the load on your client rather than compared to having the graphics on low. For example, i have to have 'zones' on low otherwise i find the pirate maps is totally unplayable for my laptop.

I hope that helps if you haven't tried doing any of those yet.

Did you check if Hardware Acceleration is enabled within Flash Player?

To do so you should right click any flash content, choose Settings, and make sure that Enable hardware acceleration is checked, this will greatly improve graphics performance.

  4. What I have found helps me is when the lag is super unbearable is to reload the computer, or refresh if using win 8. Depending on where you have been online, your computer can become dragged down by "mess" you just can't get rid of any other way. Its helpful to clean it up from time to time. I play on 6 servers, none of them yours, and had the problem on all of them. A refresh made a world of a difference.

I too get frame drops after a couple hours of playing, and what seems to be working for me, is going in task manager and killing the flash player process and then reload the game client.

Thank you both for the other suggestions.

Can i ask the original poster if the suggestions provided have helped reduced the lag you are experiencing?

  7. are you kidding? i did a fresh format loaded dark after all my drivers went on and it still has all the same problems, its a recurring issue that affects the client sometimes but i wonder now if it will ever return to any kind of glory. the only reason its even online is because no one cares, or it would have went down for maintenance and issue resolved.

  8. I will admit there are problems with lag, but it was not anywhere close to being what it was before I did the "refresh." Now over the past few days I, like everyone else, am lucky to get into the game. Sometimes I just want to do a transfer and then go to work. *sigh*

Ddraig, I forgot what browser you told me you used, but I have found the Torch Browser to be great, and have it dedicated to game playing. Sometimes you can find your "normal" browser bogged down with junk from web sites. I don't know how the hame was during the glory days but any game is going to get bogged down over time as it gets more popular. I don't think its totally a personal computer issue all the time. But my experience has improved, personally, based on my previous post.

  9. After you 'click' START - comes up a new tag page. Wait for it to load. Then right click to get 'quality' click low - standard is high...click low twice once to see it is at low and then a second time to verify. Now you can see DO in it's glory. Dang DO - unhelpful. Also I suggest you have in settings "Intereface" - show background - have no check mark on it. Enjoy..thank me l8r.
