Can't put shield in drone

I have 6 flax drones and all are equipped with lasers but when I try to put any shield generator into it I receive this message "This item can't be equipped to this slot"??

 

If they are all equipped with a laser then you need to remove the laser first from the drone that you want to put the shield on.

 

Alright I see, but can you tell me then what the "Design" field is for on the drones?

 

Yeah there are 2 designs, 1 gives damage (Havoc) and the other gives HP + Shield (Hercules), they are given out as a reward from Zeta Gates and Kappa Gates. This is a FAQ on the drone designs if you are more interested:

However since you are a new player probably best to just ignore them for now and work on getting Iris drones, good lasers etc.

As Okapi32 has stated, flax drones only have one spot to put either a laser or shield, so you will need to interchange them depending on which one you want at the time.

You can use two different configurations one with shields and one with lasers or a combination of your choice.
hanger- equipment-config. bar 1 and 2
your ship will show which config in are in and you can change by the 1 or 2 or by hitting the c on your keyboard
