Necroing this post to glom on to OP's central point. Why is NPvP (non-consensual PvP) still allowed in home maps? Especially for noobs or anyone who just isn't interested in PvP, this is a major hurdle to fully enjoying this game.
I started playing about 7 years ago when enemy companies would just camp in X-1/2 and pop new players with very little challenge. I stuck it out and ponied up some cash to be competitive, but eventually got bored and left the game for a few years. Now I come back after ~6 years and almost nothing has changed in that regard -- in fact the balance of power has gotten even worse. Now we've got upgrades, skill trees, designs, pets and LF-4's to make it even harder to keep up with the vets, unless you want to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on what is, ultimately, a Flash game. I tried inviting a few friends to play, but keep getting the same reports: getting killed in seconds by enemy players that are so far beyond them just isn't fun. And advice to just move to another map or logoff and do something else is just silly -- X-3/4 shouldn't be a PvP hunting ground, especially when level 7/8 missions lead players there.
If Bigpoint has any interest in expanding DO's player base, they really need to do something to improve the experience for new players.

  2. Not a bad idea Prae, butI see that being a problem for Sector Contol or Capture the Beacon etc.....when there would be UFE's in the lower maps. Also all the Demeaner and Hitak events bring many players to the lower maps, but in general you are right, There shouldn't be PvP in the lowers for the noob players. The question is, how do you decide the NPvP threshold, exp? level? ship? drones? It can get sticky.

I personaly make it a habit to not pop anything less than a goli, unless doing a mission like destroy 10 vengies. However i do think that DO could bring in some sort of system where you cant target a player a certain amount of lvls below you(Ie.. if your lvl20 you cant target anyone below lvl10) or raise the coporate protection to a much higer lvl. I do agree that back in the day if you where 'FE' you always had a good chance at PVP, but now its just to varied in the bottom end of the strength scale to the top. It also makes it worse when alot of the higher lvl mission are things like 'destroy 100 enemie ships', the lower maps are a very easy and quick way of doing that unfortunately.

On the flipside though, it is a game that we all love and despite all the moaning we do, we always keep playing. I just had to accept that it was that type of game and so i spent some money on it to get myself to a semi strong lvl. I think that unless you are willing to do this then its going to be a very painfull and slow route to the top. So my advice is to just accept that you are going to get popped alot at first untill you can build a powerfull ship, and if you dont want to spend money on it. Then find another game. DO wont change things muchto make it cheaper top play as they are onto to much of a good money making scheme, so why would they. Thats just my opinion on the matter but we have all been there, so just keep battling on and one day you will get there. Cheers

I feel your pain, we all did I would say make some friends. I have played this game for about to be 4 years and have pretty simply learned that if you ride solo nothing works out, this will help with the boring part. As for the missions yeah they aren't fun but it will help you to do them in the long run. the point of the starting missions with nice rewards are to help get you started and able to stand up at least a little for yourself. Later on you will get to the hard missions the reason for these are not to get you stronger but to give Rank point exp ect... Also I would recommend Playing on a active server. I played on east 2 server ( which is dead now ) for 3 years Most of my friends quit. hunting got boring after not finding anyone and then I Went to ga5 my entire vision of the game changed there are a Ton of active players and it just made the game so much fun The point of this is Don't give up on the game Its a good game but just try to Have more fun with it :) hope to hear that you started playing again

well the game has advanced and also prices have increase but the uri return has stayed the same for npcs that has to change plus i think they should make that path to FE much as there is much more damage now

i remember when i was a noob not even a f.e nos i had atleast a 50/50 chance of getting back to port from a f.e goli that was back in 2010.now if your a semi ufe you stand almost no chance getting back to port across 1/4 of the map game has become to op for new player which is why game is dying

big point thought about quick profit instead of long term and alot of people that had big egos bought into that and from then on the game became pure chance and destroyed the game for new comers

  6. We do have better uri returns on some NPC like Icy and also the crazy cube event, recent annual events we have had also increased the amount of player returns drastically compared to back in 2011 when I started.

This is in my experience correct, back in 2011 a half FE Nost would pop with one or two RSB volleys from an old FE ship back then and it wasn't until I got a vengie with full speed gens that I would stand a chance of escape, adding a few points to the pilot bio also helped shields etc but it wasn't cheap or was a good while to grind the uri.

The pet 10 is also a game changer if you have a looter and cargo trader as credits can then be gained very quickly with ease as there is always plenty of cargo to be had as many players simply don't collect it, level one looter/trader would be a nice quest item or bonus when purchasing the pet for a newbie along with giving the incentive to obtain higher level pet items.

Premium also helps a lot and I think this should be incentivised much more for newer players and discounted in price further for levels 12 and below as you can with effort rank up in a relatively short time, I also feel the quests should be available to allow attaining level 12 relatively easily. With regards to premium a one off offer of 3 months premium user for £5 or £10 or equivalent which expires after the first 2-3 months of account life and/or reaching level 13 would be a very useful first purchase to new players. Add in a quest to join a clan too and maybe a few quests to kill several npc in an outfit with a decent item reward, LF3 - B02 - Gen7900 - log disks etc and I would expect a player to have gained the knowledge/items required to survive better in a 6 to 12 week time frame.

Recent game events and crazy cubes have given further incentives to purchase premium and bonus box doubler, which with regards to events is a good change of tack in my opinion as the returns that can be made with them have been well worthwhile and premium is affordable for most people especially when compared to the price of a retail game purchased twice a year. For me personally a 3 month premium option could be of interest as a long term player.

The initial training exercises should also include an in depth explanation of the two different ship configurations as I have seen players with a Goliath & 8 Iris who have no idea of how the 2nd configuration works, this would likely be easier to implement when the configuration options become part of the main game screen.

Why also can't we give incentives to experienced players to help lower ranks with quests? An event that allowed higher ranks to gain some ep/honor etc when people levelled up in your outfit may achieve this especially if it was ran alongside an advertising campaign. Quests that required/rewarded a player to assist 5 - 10 - 25 other players to gain a player level would fit this idea possibly, induction events/quests anyone?

  7. Rome wasn't built in a day. Other than the Germans Blitzkrieg - can't gain that much territory/uri in 5 days. Too many strong players in the maps to prevent that.

LordDunDrunkum post - last paragraph I agree. Incentives...most just hang in the uppers, GG, quest missions or busy hunting themselves.

I might add that the rewards in quest for uri should match the NPCs required to be destroyed aka matching funds/uri. Get 5 Sibs and as a reward you get double upon completion....each sibs is 32 uri - finish quest - reward in uri is 160 uri. It should help with all these uri items to be achievable. GL ;)

  8. Many of us remember that and although it was still hard for a newcomer to gain any power and experience, the differential is now too much as you say Alky-jr ...!!

I would say the UBA is a good idea in the making... for at least 2 reasons...
1, It could give PvP experience and if the rewards and losses were lower then the new players should be encouraged to take part as a quest or 2..
2, the ability to differentiate between players and 'Match' them (properly :p) would be useful in the sticky question Ρļ€*İŋ*Ŧħ€*§ķ¥

Agreed... too many noobs dont know the first thing.. but who reads (some I know) the rules when they start :p.. If they look then Forum and Bible etc are very helpful...
....and this latter point I have been involved in this idea before... If the UFEs had to take some ownership and responsibility :p then maybe they would realise that no new players = shooting your mates for cash (if they do still pay cash to play)

Too much EP which achieves nothing more than noobs with a higher level.. not enough Uri at least up to lvl 14 and a level playing field until the new player has got to grips with PvP..

I/We all wait with baited breath...
There are many points in this Thread and the fact that the OP has helped spawn so much interest obviously proves a point

  9. I agree with you kingspoof,

to be honest even if you put money into the game you would still die just as quick (unless you put thousands of dollars into your account) So even hundreds of dollars would get you nowhere.

Unfortunately there are players that will go around hunting fresh players, new players - and that will never stop, its human nature in its true form. The people who drive this game do so with little concern for its existing players and the company is rotten from the inside out - their shareholders are the people that matter.

You dont have to listen to me or anyone else here, but being here a while all we can do is advise, and my advice is stick around, try adapting new tactics - if it's not your cup of tea then dont put any money into it, its not bad for a free to play.

    Regards

  10. No, you can rush Herkules, BK for LF4, ammo etc., then you will be Ufe in less than one week (with Helix lf4 day).

I think about quitting the game too. There are not many motivation for continuing, no funny rewards such as B02 in quest anymore...The only emotional thing is the death, where you lose your time for earning Uridium. Each minute after death to fly back to another map where I hope that there are no Ufe is sad. I have already learn to flee, but it's frustratingly to see a players with so much damage which I reach only in some years or never...My only hope is the Crafting system and the funny events...

  11. Lol who are you trying to kid? UFE in less than a week? Not possible.

  12. Hi i have the perfekt idea..

i dont know if you ever play pirate storm.. its a bigpoint game to..
there the first 5 maps is a pve map.. from map 6-13 or something like that is a pvp map BUT.. the make it like that if you have a to big or low lvl or dmg.. you can not attack orther.. only a player on your own lvl +/- 3 lvl i think it is..
i really love that idea.. if give the new players a really good chance go play game, and the know if there is some one the can attack, the are around the same dmg...

why not make DO the same.. map x-1 to x-4 to the same.

    x-1 = pve / if enemy max 1 lvl +/-
    X-2 = pvp / if enemy max 2 lvl +/-
    x-3 = pvp / if enemy max 3 lvl +/-
    x-4 = pvp / if enemy max 4 lvl +/-

    4-x / pvp = all kills count

  13. My plan is that I reach ufe in 2 years, but now it's not possible because I stop playing.

Nice idea, stop the home map massacre, but the level system of DO rough. I know a beginner friendly MOBA game where you only play with player +/- 2 in your level.

  14. Here's one how about DO make the game encourage newbs to to fight an raid each other in lowers
an the same for Vets in upper maps. Hopefully this new crafting system coming out will do the trick.

Yes lower level PVP so Newbs can fight it out among each other because the game still needs future wallet warriors;)
If I coulI would make Leo Buff effective in most if not all lower maps for lower level pilots just to spice it up a bit:cool:

  15. Ahhh - just make it lowers get lvl 10 and below and the BM and uppers get lvl 10 above...;)

Lvl 10 and lowers can roam anywhere and get poof'd in the BM and uppers :rolleyes:
