[SC] Thoughts from a disappointed Old School Player

A little about myself. I started playing this game the first time in late 07, right before the first anniversary. Played for a couple years and got frustrated and quit playing for a while. Sadly I lost that account by not logging in. Some may still Remember me if you have been around for a while. I was in a clan on USA east 3 server where everyone had the name RANGER in there clan name. For a very short time, ( as a joke ) I was the chihuahua ranger. I remember the clan leaders were a father and son.

Anyways, I lost that account do to inactivity. I started another account on the same server in 2012. played for about a year and stopped. I still pop in and will play a little from time to time to this very day, but not very much. I have seen a lot of changes in this game from my beginnings until now. Sadly most I would not say are good changes. These are my thoughts on the real problem that no one seems to want to address.

When I first started, there was no pets, no skill tree, no lf4's, only 8 drones and not a lot of other stuff that we have today. See, back then, when this game was new. The most you could have weapon wise was an lf3. If you put $100 down on the game you were full elite and could compete with anyone. This game was about the skill of the person playing and not how much money was invested. See, the servers were full. they had to be making money hand over fist with all the people that were playing. So what happened to the populations on the servers?

Simple. When the game moved from a pay to customize to a pay to compete model the servers started to die. Say what you want, but the truth is this simple. Why play this game, when I will have to invest $100's and 100's of dollars ,maybe thousands and months to a year or 2 to just be able to just compete, when I can play almost any other game, pay very little and compete with anyone, and then chose to spend more money on customization's ?

Not very many people are going to stick around to get destroyed every 5 minutes. It's not fun, it's not relaxing. I hope one day this game wakes up and realizes that if they would move away from a pay to compete model the servers would start to fill back up. It takes to long to get to UFE. That is the simple truth.

Even if they will change model, its too late. The most players of the world already tried DO and placed it into P2W games, they will never come again and it doesnt matter how much is BP trying, no event or permanent change can bring them back.

 

If they did not realise those ideas, now someone like you could end up here writing that this game is bored and need's new stuff in game. Players will never be satisfied. This is business and they need money to upgrade game servers, data base, pay salaries, etc. If you don't want to spend money and stuck on 100 bucks then it's up to you, I always been spending money in this game and I will

 

the game is dead, move on.

 

The game aint dead just servers there's to many servers DO needs to close them down.The game takes along time to grin Im free to play and been playing for close to 8month and all that time I only been hunting for 2 weeks in total spend all my time cubing or boxing for uri for booty keys and upgrades it is very tiring,the things are very expensive and it comes down to the point where free to play players are having a hard time with pay to play players.Many pay to players players are super mean to free to play players because they full of regret they spent so much money on the game they try to make others feel bad about themselves to even just quit playing on my server ga1 its pretty full but the wallet warriors are so mean its better to keep your chat off,if they lose to a free to play player they start saying a bunch of stuff that gets em banned and I know the game is a Pvp based game but never the less its a game meant to have fun.I started playing 2012 I stoped after the botting started around the same year I was already ufe back then and Had fun and the invasion gate was live but its like every other game the game starts to die slowly but this game will always be around for atleast a few more years as old players leave new ones come so i evens out I guess.

 

New ones come, but at least 70% leave after few days. This game will be surely here for a few years, because its quite successful in Turkey, well, "pausing" jackpot arena had big impact.

 

I have a question about the turkish server there poor and they have many wars so how could it be more successful then any other server seems odd.

Nicely said there. But, do you realize what happens to a game that DOES NOT update it's content for years? Short answer: dies. This game didn't died, and it is definitely not dead yet.

Can you name a game that is free2play and is not pay2win? Please, just name one, I am so curious.
And I have to correct you about one thing. You said that you are old player, than you should already know that you can have EVERYTHING in this game without paying a 1$. So, the guy that invested 1000$ and you that invested 0$ can be the same, you will just need some more time to enjoy the game.

Sorry if I sound rude, I just wanted to tell you that your arguments are invalid, in my opinion.

The game is not dead yet but soon will be if DO can't retain newbs long enough to become wallet warrior, shorten the time to
become UFE and do something about server population. As a old player myself I'd have to say I'm not too impressed with how
the game has been handled but feel DO/BP over the last 6 months are moving in the right direction.They have started to listen
to the community a bit more. I feel the answer to save the game and have it regain some of it's former glory back is within our
threads on this forum.

If DO can protect the newbs a little bit longer, (newbs should be fighting an raiding each other in lowers without being
cannon fodder for higher lvl players) make percentages a bit fairer in regards to UFE equipment (one question to whoever is in
charge how is it fair that one player does 15 or 20 gates to get Drone covers and the other has to do 30,40 or even more than
50 gates for the same covers this needs to be addressed ASAP) and some type of server merger. (l like the idea where you
reach a certain lvl 18 or 20 you gate to a maps with people from different server then we cool have server wars)

There's some good ideas floating around the forums that just might do the trick, unfortunately most of the ideas that may work
won't generate a lot of quick money grabbing opportunities and some people would have to make some sacrifices until the game
lvled off so the tougher changes the game needs might take awhile and that's what I'm afraid of. Hope DO/BP don't drag their feet
on this

 

Star Wars the old republic is a free2play game. It has pvp, multi servers, some dedicated strictly to pvp while other servers are
pve with player choice of pvp. You have sub system that gives you some rewards, a marketplace to buy things from them for there real money currency . On and on I could go. You don't have to pay a dime to play that game. You can unlock everything that is behind the money wall with time and game play. But the one thing everyone has whether they play SWTOR for free or they pay, everyone can compete from a equal base. I could list other games but I think this one game proves my point.

 

In turkey there are still some competition tournaments I think, or were before BP canceled jackpot

Wow, what a lot of games Funny is that BP is now also trying to make money on purely cosmetic things like other successful F2P games, but thats not how it works, it will require complete system rebuild.

Funny is that 6 months ago, all ideas supporting newbs were claimed as crying of the noobs and most of the players replied by "work hard or go play farmerrama". So BP was always listening to community, but till now this community realized they have nothing to pop and wants to support newbs so much.

 

I think I wrote above that you can compete in here too, right? You can buy everything with money, or get everything without money. One thing you can not get without paying is Premium and Box Doubler. Both of them just speed up the gameplay, they don't give anything unique that will make you win the game. So, bad comparison

It is not funny at all that they make money on cosmetics. 99% of the online games right now make money on cosmetics, especially CS:GO and R2Games. And no one actually said to them why you do it, why you do cosmetics for money. Players here on forums asked for those things! Now you have them, cosmetics won't make you win the game for sure. If you like them, buy them. No one forces you to do so.

Cosmetics are meant to make your gameplay unique, so please don't say that cosmetics ruin your game.

 

Anyone(looking at you Mr.Awesome...) who tries to defend this game is delusional, you either spend thousands or repetitively grind for a year or something silly to just be able to compete on equal terms... but untill then enjoy being dominated by people spending silly amounts of money on the game or some masochist who has been grinding like there's no tommorow for god knows how long.

Also don't even try to compare this game to some other popular free to play games that let you grind to get things that you can buy, they are either A: it doesn't even cost much to get the stuff(or not too much an advantage of having it) or B: the grind is not excessive to get the stuff, which deffinitely cant say either about this game. This game is the definition of pay to win/pay to play(go ahead try to play this game without spending money nevermind trying to do pvp, see how fun it is, might be for a little bit but the fun will disappear).


(this is coming from someone who stopped spending money/playing when they introduced those silly lf4/drone designs, I didn't mind the skill tree but those just made the price to compete on equal terms sky rocket)

 

Id rather invest money into uridium or doubler than buying useless cosmetics, but pure F2P games arent case, because I cant buy anything which can speed up things there so I buy some cosmetics to make yourself look cooler. After a lot of people bought beacon designs mainly to support refugees, BP thinks they will make a lot of money by selling purely cosmetic items, well they are wrong.

 

Who are you to judge me? Do you know me in my real life? Who gave you the right to judge how I play the game?

You are telling me not to compare to other free2play online games, because you can't grind everything here. Name a thing that you can't grind in this game? Can't you get LF4? Can't you get rare ship designs? Can't you get Herc, Havoc? What does a pay2win player have, that you can't grind?

It is not just because of the Beacon designs. On forum many players asked for cosmetics. It is up to the person if you would like to buy or not.. Still, I see a lot of player buying them and enjoying.

 

Actually DO was only listening to the top 1 or 2 percent of the community.Myself and others have been calling for changes for almost 2 yrs.
The game has gotten so far out of balance we need some sort of reset, announced or unannounced to get it going again. It's obvious we care a great deal about the game and have made many valid points. We just need DO/BP to get the game back to what made it fun in the first place(The old days). For me it's not that hard to think about

A good step would be reducing uridium prices. I live in Canada and the price of $1m uri is nearly $150 CDN which is a fortune. USA players on average pay less then us and make way more money. So getting ripped off isn't my cup of tea, i haven't spent a dime in a year.
