    Yesterday,

I log into the game only to find a pixelated mess. After a bit of flying around, my screens turn off! What?

Yes, that is what I was wondering...

So, I hold my power button, until my PC turns off, and then I proceed to open it up, only to find: - my graphicxs card is smoking! MY GRAPHICS CARD IS SMOKING!!! MY GTX 980Ti IS SMOKING!!! ***??!?!?

SO I go to take it to repair, and today I get it back with a unfortunate message from the repairer that it is forever broken! *** Dark Orbit team? I will now make support ticket and want all £600 back for my GPU!!!

and my CPU is borken now! ***? my i7-5960X? £800 CPIU?

  2. Well too bad you chose to not fix the "April Fools Joke" before trying to play the game. There were over a dozen threads opened dealing with the Messed Up Visuals in several areas of the Forums there were also directions on correcting the issues from the PRANK.

The fact that only YOUR computer was affected by the issue is going to be a hard case to prove that D O caused the Graphics card to fail. Other factors are age of computer/card, how many hours operating time is on it, temperature of computer at time of failure, how clean is the internal cabinet of the computer, and what the computer is used for mainly.

My graphics card failed earlier this year because it was OLD and needed a break. It is not D O's fault, it is not the manufacturers fault, it is a piece of electrical equipment and it does fail over time.

  3. Today's tech was not made for 30 year old gaming resolution. Also, how many players ever look at forums much less check out what the latest (snicker) news update. I laugh because it takes a player to discover the issues.

The pixelated game client should not have been an issue with your hardware, with both your graphics card and cpu going up in smoke could be a number of things most commonly overclocking CPU's and GPU's with out proper cooling; a power surge can also cause major damage as so a defective mainboard can have devastating effects on your RAM; CPU and GPU. Also incorrect handling of of hardware components such as not grounding correctly when installing or cleaning, it is unlikely that DO will compensate for a failure of hardware.

Thank you all for your assistance with this players issue.

After reviewing your issue, it is unlikely that the visual alteration to the game was the cause of your GTX 980Ti's smoking issue. If in fact the GTX 980Ti did start to smoke, it could be a variety of things that you would need to address with the manufacturer. As this particular graphics card was released on June 15, 2015 it is currently short of a year in which case should still have a manufacturers warranty.

I have looked at the specs and their is nothing in the Dark Orbit gaming environment that should or would affect that type of High end card that way.

  6. This is why even though I know I tick her off sometimes, I feel she is the best of the mods. This level of research to solve a problem, no matter who is at fault, makes one wonder how she is not stolen away from us.

  7. ASTRAEA is correct. Nothing would make that GPU smoke except for either a manufacturing defect or overclocking the GPU - probably incorrectly.

The only comment I will add to what ASTRAEA has written is that the GTX 980Ti is not only a High end GPU, but is probably among the best 3 GPUs around if not the best.

Like ASTRAEA has stated, take it up with manufacturer or the place you bought your PC from. If that fails, then you can take the matter further through Trading standards.
