  1. Darkorbit old school servers feedback!

Darkorbit, you wanted our feedback on this topic, you wanted us to discuss this, our voice is here!

Every old school player knows exactly why we need the glory days of Darkorbit to come back ;)
If you don't I advice you to go and watch Darkorbit clips from 2008 - 2010.

The following is feedback I gave gathered.

There are some things we wish you to carry over from the current game to the (hopefully, maybe) upcoming old one.
Plenty of the things we are asking to be put in the old version of the game were already requested when the old game was around but those certain things weren't implemented into the game until years after which is what we today call the new game.

    It's based around 2009 - early 2010

This will be posted on the forums, please feel free to discuss this and speak your part about all this.

Maybe you feel different about some of these things? Maybe you want a different time frame? Maybe you don't exactly want these certain things to be carried over from the new one to the upcoming old one?
Maybe you have something to add, any ideas?

C'mon don't be shy. Show your will in this!

SPEAK UP players let's make this happen! :)

Sry you may think these are not in the right order and that's probably true :p

    1. Starter Kit for new players with stronger equipment, like you get today (10 000 uridium, premium 1 week, lf3, bo2, etc. + (instructions) on how to play like we have today + player is secured (meaning he can't get shot) until reaching a certain level or a certain map (just like it is today.

    2. No pvp on the first home maps 1-1 2-1 3-1 (just like it is today).

    3. The new auction house. If possible put the new system of auction house in the old version. This was already highly requested back when the old Darkorbit was around to get your credits back from the auction if you didn't win.

    4. Repairing credits ships cost credits, repairing uridium ships cost uridium.

Back in the old game no matter what ship you had (except Phoenix) it used to cost you 500 uridium to repair your ship. This was one of the few bad things in the game which was really stupid and made it extremely hard for new players to progress.

Not only was it already super hard for them to survive with no security on the first maps they would encounter with literally any equipment at all from the start,
when they had finally bought their first credit ship that would maybe be a Yamato, Nostromo, Bigboy or something around that range they would still die and have to pay 500 uridium all of a sudden.

Today you still pay but you only pay credits for repairing credit ships and this is why I think It's super important to bring this over from the new version
to the old version to give players a chance to survive and at least get to enjoy the first minutes of playing the game.

    5. Overall visual quality improvements (more like 2015 - 2016 quality) ships and items still have the classy look but with increased pixels and overall the game has the same type of resolution that the new Darkorbit version has today with a full screen option.

    6. Multiple servers for different regions. This is important to not make the server or servers too overcrowded. Remember Bigpoint, 90% of all the people who have ever graced Darkorbit wants to play the old version of the game again and we don't want server problems the first day do we?

Just make sure to have at least 3 different servers. You know why for technical reasons.

    7. Group system, RSB, EMP, Pilot Bio. The group system was one of the best things ever added and put into the game. This was already added back in 2010 as well as when the new weapons RSB, EMP and the Pilot Bio got released.

Was all of this great? Does everyone want this to be included in the old version or do we want an even older version before all this stuff came out in 2010?

This is why I’m estimating it to be based sometime around 2009 or early 2010 but from what I have heard a lot of players do want this Group system, RSB and EMP stuff to be included in the old version of Darkorbit.

    This is interesting to discuss...

    8. Bot Security (like we have today). I think we all of us can agree on one thing. Bot programs ruined, changed, affected (however you want to put it) the game a lot. Back in the old days this was a common problem which got fixed and sorted out but way too late. Bigpoint, today you have a system to take care of these players using bot programs or any type of unhallowed cheats from what I know.

    9. No Monthly Subscription Fee, players have the option to purchase uridium If they wish to from the store. This is the best way to make sure everyone can try this out and for old players to be able to return without any hesitation whatsoever.
Here are some pics of the ‘kinda’ version of the game we mean and wish you to present:

So once again this makes us come to the conclusion that we would appreciate the hopefully upcoming old school server to be based on how the game was at least around 2009 or sometime early in the beginning of 2010 when these stuff mentioned were added and put into the game (around that time frame).

But, but. Businesswise, would this just be a loss? Yes, I know. Bigpoint Is a for profit company that makes games for a living and you need money. We understand that and respect that. But.

If this turns into reality people will go crazy. This would be a great investment for their company and they would earn a lot of money from this
+ they would have a lot of more active gamers coming back to play one of Bigpoint games again.

This would draw attention to old customers of Bigpoint who has played their game before in time and make a lot of them come back to play their game today.

The game was more popular than ever before, it was at its peak and was pretty much perfectly balanced. Most people, like I said if not 90% of the community appreciated the game the most back in 2009 - 2010.

It would be the best version of the old game to present on the old school project according to the community I have spoken to who highly request all of this.

C'mon guys, you know us (the community) we deserve this after everything we have gone through and as a thank you from you for our patience! :D

Finally as you can see, we have great ideas for this projects and I urge you to make this happen. There's no question about it, we are super eager & excited, whatever you can be to play it.

This is something that a lot of players have been hoping for a very long time, for years to be honest.

This is nothing new and when Bigpoint are at least considering it and want to hear feedback, this is our chance and we have to try and make an impact to actually make it happen!

We will never stop until you make it happen Bigpoint and you know we have shouted already for years! ;) We will never forget the old version of Darkorbit, it was something special and has had some sort of impact on every player who ever got to experience what we call the real Darkorbit! :D

    'Nuff said'

    Regards,

    Jonathan

    a Darkorbit player since 2009.

well said, sounds good to me, as long as they can keep the botters out...REALLY out, im in, that's one of the main reasons I quit playing, we had to fight over bonus boxes, and would take minus honor to kill the botters...lol

  3. Yep, I totally agree.

It's probably, if not the most important thing making sure no one can use any sort of bot programs at all on the servers.

old 2009 servers had the "brickish" designs of ships (nostromo for example), so to move things from 2016 into a 2009 server (known for it's fun AND PVP BALANCE) it is more difficult than it seems, as many players that quit darkorbit will not desire it since for them, it was their "last drop", polluting a Golden Dark Orbit with this 2011+ poison could have the same effect it has today on the playerbase (leave, leave, ded servers, leave...)

i'd vote for the comeback pack, it was a booster, 5.000U, 1 week premium and a lf3. after a week without login, 10.000U on a old server (wich has much less uri options and useless stuff) could be too much.

no pvp was added in old client, but 2009- it was pvp.

it was requested because of the "last sec bids" that made people lose millions. some people even wanted the auction to be locked in these last seconds.

dying in low company maps was a little hard because it was crowded and people United against invaders (all ally players that saw enemies, even outlaws roaming "not doing quest"), clan raids could give a impact until upper players got there to kick em off... and company chat was living with nice people instead of elitists, but then it makes sense repairing with creds.

old darkorbit had a better flow than today (2D), and also it eaten less memory than it does today, not to mention the music and sound effects quality (wich dropped), before the old music could either strengthen your heart or give you a heart attack.

Americas / Europe / Asia. 1-2-3 max. done and done.

rsb... hah, too much "rubbish" to be implemented, group system was born in old client, emp? come on, these items later on give a great hint that pvp is more "quickier (and boring)" than before, but before you had even a enemy Phoenix hitting x4 on you, along with 10+ players, what's next? dcr? ice? skill design? moar "selfish" items?

not to forget, PilotBio created bots because it had insane farming requested (and eventually broke the game balance, 99k was easy with hunt2, in short words: it started darkorbit's death), must i mention lf4 dealing 250.000 dmg before the damage reduction update?

if it was to filter items, barely HST would make it up for the old orbit, with a rework, and no, no freaking tech factory, timing for ISH and SMB back then was table-turner (and fun).

kill off the insane grind that we have today, and bots will go away (like it was before, we still had to grind but not that much).

agreed, why should i pay for if was free (and fun) back then? we had amber and sapphire designs (wich were cooler and gave HMT), adding packs and a fee is a clear display of plain Greed (EA Anyone?), must i remember that people bought amber and saph even when they did not give 5% dmg or 10% shield, simply a illimited use trading drone (crimson was good though)

the problem with "community" is when it is contaminated by selfish players, this is where the game dies (any game).

i even play from garena darkorbit too (both versions), and players that seem to complain about darkorbit, the old ones. want to play the game called Dark Orbit where teamwork was needed and playing against players was fun, not some simple key taps and it's either you or him ded in seconds (minutes rarely). a game where whoever hitted for 20K was high but could still get destroyed by 2 full mp-1 skilled players (as long they had b02... and SMB), where killing a goliath with a Yamato was possible and a real challenge, where invasion gate was crowded, TDM as well. spaceball? good luck trying to get near your comp portal. i've said multiple times, but Dark Orbit. was a fun space-shooter that did not needed download, and was FUN. wich it lost over the years with Money-grab updates focused on a more Selfish "tactical" combat, instead of the fun company wars it was before, any old player knows when darkorbit die was at Pilot Bio+New Ship look update, when Dark Orbit became THIS game called darkorbit - reloaded.

Thomas Wolfe said Paraphrasing here ,you can never go back home" If they would pull the bugs out of the game and the MCCs and be straight VRU/=MMO/= EIC would be a great start to yesteryear.

Bullies entering the lowers looking for an easy kill just might run into a UFE and then they would pop them fast or help a lower powered pilot finish a mission by said bullies in the uppers.

Of course that was UFE and all :D

  6. A lot of truth spoken here! Seems like we are heading for 2009 or earlier. Thank you for taking your time to write all this :)

  7. Yes, back when you used to actually fight for your company together in massive amounts.

    That was real fun!

But you do know we are talking about 2009 before UFE and all that other stuff didn't exist, right? :p

  8. Yes I remember when you had a wider assortment of ships flying in the maps because you had to make a decision WHAT ship you wanted as you could only have 1 Equipped Ship in the Hangar and it could be very expensive to be able to change ships frequently (yes you changed designs but not the base ship). Now you can own EVERY Ship and equip as you want and fly anyone of them without worrying about the cost of getting into the other ship again.

The main difference in strength was the P P's used and there were many players taking turns playing Portal Guard at the enemy entry points into our maps, especially in the lowers. A post in the Company Chat produced several responses of anyone have eyes on the enemy so they could be guided to the target, now you might get lucky to see another person posting a comment to someone they see in a map trying to get their attention, but this is even slim. Everyone is now in Global Chat or talking on TS3 and ignoring the helpless NEW players being destroyed by a UFE attacking with enough firepower to pop them in 2 seconds but still want to 2v1 them. With the low numbers on the servers they seem to be chased from the game as they are tired of not being able to complete the simplest of tasks, complete a mission.

Returning to yesteryear is a pipe dream and I do not see D O doing this but if they do not re-think where they are going the entire game is just a blink away from being a once great dream to someones nightmare, as it closes down for lack of interest in the game. Hocus Puzzle is even starting to look better than D O.

I would say take it back to the first year server. No LF4's $100. on mega got you FE and your flying skills kept you alive. There was no power gap. It was easier as a new player to FE then it is today.

  10. Sorry everyone. I just don't think it's a good idea to make an old school server. The main reason I think people want
this is because it was cheaper/quicker to get Fe an everyone had the same gear. with that being said DO could easily
adjust the parameters of the game an make it so. For example If a person just played During the events we just had
they would have gotten stronger. Actually quite a few people became UFE. So DO actually have the power to make DO
reloaded more like the original DO no need for old school server right now. However, should DO reloaded go belly up.
By all means Bring Back DO 2009 to 2010 with original sound but better original graphics.:D I sure do miss those old
smart bombs they were so big and bright you could out maneuver whole hunting parties if you place it right:cool:

it's not about cheaper/quickier FE. it's about lasting more than 10s battling another player (IE: Balanced PVP)...

old darkorbit never got a chance to fully develop in a nice way (the opposite it is now), so when thinking of "old school server" it mean bringing not only back the old desings, and sound stuff. but also it's chance to develop in a nice way, wich i voted for - keep updating., not stay-forever-froze-without-updates-until-you-become-boring-and-die-on-its-own-boredom.

a dark orbit without tech factory that is today, upgrades system, booty Keys, pilot bio, l-f-damn-4, apis, zeus, hercules, havok, skill/boost-damnsings, drone formations, etc... all these terrible things that drove PEOPLE AWAY from many servers, the current darkorbit could possibly not even notice any changes with a OSS (since many servers are dead anyway), check pservers. they often brag about being "old style" but when you see it, it's another darkorbit reloaded with pay to win methods, people don't want play Youzhoint darkorbit, they want to play that old Dark Orbit made by bigpoint. even quests were fun, 200! for example...

a free OSS could not bring all the old players back because they are either living the Star Citizen illusion or busy working/playing better games, but it could still draw some old players again, few ancient folk still Wander around darkorbit's carcass (and the fórum), either to see how low it will sunk or in hopes it will change back to it's former glory, by a miracle.

This was done with the game UriWars played through facebook. It was extremely successful until the bots took over. The dev team gave up and the mod did the same stuff they do now... (sent it to support...). If this new server does become something the devs will need to install some tools that would let the mods actually police the game. Even if the player is accused and found to be innocent a slight pause and account review will not hurt the feeling of most honest players. Usually the only players that get upset are the one who are trying to hind something.

Also please do not add the EMP, jump chip or 50 cloak chip. I miss hunting in bmaps at the port. Also holding your breath when you jump hoping the are at the other map. These where some of the fun asspects of the game that are lost with the so called improvements.

Finally let the boxes and gates spin go back to the past percentages. I know DO claims the gates spins and boxes are not change but in the past I could box 15k to 20k and hour and build and a, b, and y, with 100k uri. That has not been possible in many years.

Most people want an old school server because that is when the game was fun. Servers were populated, companies were loyal, and the ships gave you a chance to either win a fight or flee to fight again. Hunting parties were 50 plus ships and would meet in bmaps to see how was better. Dark Orbit as it is now is not working and this is obvious due to the major changes that started in 2012. Also the many years the bots were allowed to rome free (even though DO denies it) then all of a sudden banning thousand of player after the real ones already left.

I spent thousands of dollars on this game and have played since 2009. Most players that think an old school server would be bad have never knew the fun the servers were back in 2009. Jumping in a Teamspeak with 100 players of different ages all focused on playing dark orbit. I have many raids with DrWakko in his TS. Glad to see he still types in forums. My old clan EDK had 350 members in 2009 with 9 diffenrt clan tags. We had clan meeting every week and each clan had a leader and a co leader. How many games on the internet lets you do this. We would recruit new players and they would learn from us in a few days and be hook playing because we had and incredible support with 9 clans.

Once a weeks our heavy hitters would lock down the lowers maps so the new recruits could quest in peace the we would destroy everyone in the bmaps and upper with a huge clan hunt.

If done right the old school server would bring DO back, but I do not believe the owners, devs ,or mods care enough to do it.

  13. You forgot same gear (IE: Balanced PVP) Really the only big mistake DO really made was that they let greed get the better
of them. When they were able to make many many millions quick (Pilot bio/new Drones) they couldn't help themselveso_O
this made the updates come to quickly:eek:and unbalanced the game. We lost alot of pack hunters during this era. OSRS we
need DO to concentrate on fixing whats broken. Personally, I don't think we need old school server. However, We do
need better Newb protection. Heres some more. How about DO put a reasonable uri or cash price on LF-4.(ol' school LF-3)
they could just go down the list. TBH at this point all UFE gear should be available via 3 avenues. QUEST (free to lo spenders)
URI (grinders/ mid spenders) and CASH. We need the flood gates to open up so newer players get stronger quicker. Then
the game will feel more old school:cool: D O GIVE MORE POWER TO THE NEWBS PLZ:cool:

Tbh if D O Reloaded was done properly It could bring itself back. The game, over the years has virtually been molested by
greedy/corrupt/selfish owners, developers, crooked mods, bots, cheating players you name it. It's time for everyone, whoever
to put back what was taken away.

Heres whats really sad about all this DO/BP has everything already within them to make this happen. They could easily protect newer players. They could make it so a FE player could have UFE gear more easily. DO could do a lot of things but they are to focused on their precious money instead of doing whats right for the game. To get the old school feel back this CHANCE crap has got to go. The community has said a thousand times we don't wont chance in the game yet they continue to do so.

  14. DO just needs to have 'Reloaded' done in an old school way - that's it ;) The gates of A thru Delta had no 'chance games' because they gave out no items to equip the ship with.

  15. I would love this game to go back to 2009, when I first started had some great 1v1's theres no such thing these days, I remember stacking, don't do that anymore either, coz theres no game play left in dark orbit, yes old skool server, I would definetly stay playing, im currently on borders for quitting as this game is getting ridiculous.

yeah i still remember that i used to play this game on 2010 im online about 3hrs to 1 hr im just wondering how did dark orbit lost a massive numbers of player?
by the way im Katipunan192 i played 5 months of this game and i hope someone still remembers me
i love petting (kill enemy pets :D ) and stealing cargo from enemies.

  20. One of the single biggest things that changed the gameplay of entire servers overnight was the creation of the multi-map jump chip. It basically eliminated all b-map battles and totally changed Spaceball. There always has been a power gap between those that spend and those that don't, but it has gotten wider as Bigpoint has gotten greedier. There were always cheaters, they just changed from cheating by pushing to cheating by using outside software... making it cost thousands and thousands of $ to become truly UFE with full Bio didn't help. Bigpoint roles out 1 more super expensive new thing (bo3, lf5, etc.) and I'm done. I don't mind spending a little money to keep up with 4x from gates, but the madness has to stop with new junk that doesn't enhance the game. /rant
