[SC] Spectrums?? The struggle

  1. Do I need to say anything else? For anyone who has ACTUALLY played the game in recent times you will know how filthy and annoying the new skill design abilities are. I understand that the other skill designs got a nerf, but for some stupid reason the most overpowered design (spectrum) is unchanged. 30 Seconds of practically invincibility drives most players fighting them borderline insane. I fought today in a big fight, (20 vs 20) yet the entire enemy force used their spectrum ability then ran away... I am at the point in this game where if I see a spectrum I make a conscious decision to avoid shooting them at all costs because i simply know they will use their ability.. I hear the haters say "If you can't beat them join them." This may be true, but do you want this great game to be turned into something where every PvP is spectrums flying around, wasting everyones ammo and precious seprom. I want to see some decisive action, nerf the spectrum, make fighting fun again, please. I beg you.

    Those are kills since the changes, but yes I agree with you 100% the ability lasts far too long.
    In order to kill them now requires a little tactical thought and a heck of allot of resources, ice rocket, dcr rocket, lots x4 and rsb ammo.

    They are not invincible at all 383 kills so far hmmm should be a mission for those :cool:

    Get them for follow you furthest from any point of escape then hammer them with an ice rocket giving you 3 solid second to x4 and rsb once ice rocket wears off use a dcr slow rocket now you have another 5 seconds to hammer the heck out of them with x4 and rsb. If you are using a faster ship than the Spectrum get past it and drop a slow mine as the dcr rocket wears off.

    Poor guy won't follow YOU out there again, or perhaps they will be stubborn and try again to kill you ;)

Thanks for the reply, trust me I know how to kill them, my point of this post is currently I believe there is a balance issue within this aspect of gameplay, that I don't believe should be there. Why not reduce the spectrums ability to 15 seconds? That would keep its godlike nature still semi-good while removing the irritation that comes with the prolonged fight and anguish.
     
  4. Yes I completely agree with you on this matter. At what point do we just toss our arms up and decide these kills are simply too expensive.

    We don't bother to try killing them, everyone gets one and pvp ends.

    totally agree, other designs changed but not the spect. and i hate how the ranks separate the kills, especially because most quests are worthless now due to this fact. no one flys just the goli without a design these days.
     
  6. Id agree with both topics here its a pathetic use of an ability, i could sit there all day and use 5k RSB to kill a spectrum twice, which i shouldn't have too. The sentinel ability lasts 10 seconds.. why should the spectrum be soo much more powerful... ? what the hell guys.... we know bigpoint wont change a thing

    As long as there are users that are dealing an insane amount of damage, because of double boosters, stacking base bonusses etc, and don't seem to ever die with just half a millimeter of green bar, I suggest they leave the spectrum just as it is.
    It's the only proper defense we still have.
    I fly spectrum because I'm busy doing other things, and not interested in pvp at all times.
     
  8. For me the Surgeon is the main design, the abilities are for the sissies :cool: Even if he is using it, I will make him chase me around the map until the effect ends and... ;)
     
  9. They only should increase the rocket damage (e.g. with some drone formations, especially the old Dome, which doubled the HST and normal rocket damage, better rocket damage in the Pilot sheet...). It's too small compared with the normally one-shot laser damage.

    Besides DEMON drones are crying for better bonuses. 10% more rocket damage plus 5% less reload time is nearly useless.

    I opened a thread about the spectrum nerf in the Idea section (where devs would actually notice it) but nobody really cared.
    I'll copy my opinion from there:
    Spectrum is currently the most powerful ship, nobody can really doubt it.
    There has been single best ships in the past, it wouldn't be a problem.

    But the following problems do exist for sure (the list is not complete):
    1. The spectrum ability breaks the balance of fights. An example is that some spectrum users just come out of port and turn on the ability to make enemies waste their ammo.
    2. Huge ammo waste. It breaks the "ammo balance". We need about 1.5-2x more ammo for fights than we used to have.
    3. The dominating ships of the past only gave their user more chance to win against an opponent with the same equipment. Spectrum basicly can't lose to any other ship unless the opponent runs or does some tricks.
    4. Spectrum being OP cheats people owning surgeon. Many people used a lot of resources to get surgeon. It's like an lf5 laser destroying the value of lf4.
    Other ability ships are just on about the same level of surgeon.

    I'm not asking for the complete destruction of spectrum. Just for a slight change.

    Now that we agree that Spectrum should be changed let's see the possible solutions:

    -Increasing the cooldown of the ability: I don't think that Bigpoint wants it. They seem to be working with this 1.5 min CD for most abilities. And it wouldn't really solve anything unless it's about 15 mins again.

    -Decreasing the length of the ability: In my opinion this one is the best solution. With a 10 seconds length noobs like -ЩarΛnt- could still run as well.

    -Some interesting meta solution like
    This solution could be good as well. But they should fix that only premium users can have double rocket reload speed before. This feature was OK in 2010 but not in 2016. Especially now that the strongest ship can only be countered with rockets.

    Spectrum is a defensive ship, very useful for newbies. Is just frustrating for powerful players because they can't pop newbies in seconds. In pvp maps you have no advantage in a spectrum, because you can't escape to portals and enemy can simply wait 30 seconds for ability to pass. In 1 vs 1 battle spectrum is far from op, because when you have activated the ability you can do only 50% damage. In my opinion Tartarus is more OP than any ship currently in game.
     
  12. Tartarus just mean death if you are a newbie. Don't tell me something about using slow mines and ice rockets, the Ufe enemy can activate EMP and ice rockets too.

    That's right but if your main strength is your speed (tartarus) ice rockets hurt you more than it hurts a random goliath. In your logic the noob guy can activate emp as well. XD
     
  15. just make them follow you all around until their skill ends, and then pop them.
     
  16. Perfect scenario: Newbe run and activate ice rocket. Tartarus activates ice rocket and EMP. Newbe activates EMP. So at least there are no debuffs, but the Tartarus is still faster than the newbe...and...kills him.

    I thought you can destroy ships with your damage not with your speed. LOL

    In your scenario a goliath would be much better than a tartarus because it has higher damage. So you should cry about goliaths. XD
     
  18. Liberators and Bigboys can cry about every one-shot ship.
    Another scenario Goliath vs Tartarus: They try an 1vs1. Tartarus notices that Tartarus will lose. It activates ice rocket. Goliath activates EMP and ice rocket. Tartarus uses EMP and runs away with its amazing speed force.

    Yea same happens to me. 1 guy has something against me apperantly and jumps me after I finish my cubes (he is tart). I can't escape from him, because that ship is too damn fast. Things turn around tho when we start a straight on 1v1 - he gets low he starts running all over the map and I have to chase him for a few mins before he decides if he wanna fight or jump port and hug it until I go for another cube.

    Spectrum is ok as it is - it is a defensive ship after all. The balance changes are made for a reason and I am pretty much happy with all of them. If we are here to complain about those changes I think the worst update is for the sentinel, not the spectrum.

    Quick question - spectrum's ability has always been on 30 seconds duration. How come that suddenly this is too much for you and it was not before?

    ...Before it was on a 10-15min cool down or something, now it is 45 seconds if have dbl cd boosters... It is clearly the best(but also annoying/cancerous) goli ability ship by miles unless foes have multiple Spearheads to JAMX Spectrums, only then is usefulness of ability somewhat diminished if have enough Spearheads. A perfect after effect penalty of using it would be that shields are reduced by 80% or something, cause look at Diminisher the only other "comparable" ability 50% more damage to shields except duration is just 15 seconds yet has 30% reduction of shield after use...

    On top of that the Diminisher has plenty of counters to it's ability while guess how many the Spectrum has? 1, bloody 1 which is Spearheads JAMX that is on a 1min45sec cd with dbl cd boosters... It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to be able to tell that the Spectrum is in a dire need of rebalancing/more counters to it or at the very least the Spearheads JAMX cd needs decreasing by a lot if they don't want to add more counters/changes to Spectrum ability.


    And to just make it clear: No, I do not think any ability really should reduce laser damage to your ship by 80 bloody percent nevermind only reducing own by 50% for any extended period of time(unless the ship was crap for pvp so basically can only be used to try to escape)... I could care less if it is a "defensive ship"* it is miles better than what offensive ships have and I doubt you would want a offensive ship to really have a comparable ability to it... Hence why yes it does need more/better counters to more easily counter it if not rebalanced.

    *Don't know if you can really call it that in the sense I feel you're trying to justify it when it isn't like it hits much weaker, it just has a "defensive ability"(though not totally otherwise your own laser damage would also be reduced by 80%, they could just make that change if BP really want it to be used defensively instead of offensively... wouldn't quite solve the problem totally but would definitely be a good change) and a passive shield bonus so I don't see why it should have such a overpowered ability.
