[GI] If I buy a design, do i still need to get the ship first?

I want green speccy but i dont have a spectrum on this account, do i need both?

 

Yes you need ship first

 

These designs all look cool. At one time, they made the designs into their own ships. But now you will find they are pushing cosmetic designs like crazy. You must have the ship itself to use it but will find that you can equip the design to the ship in the hanger once you bought it even if you don't have the actual ship. Unfortunately, you won't be using it without the ship purchase or assembly. Telling you from experience, very frustrating experience....

To answer your question, yes you need to obtain main ship to use design on it. If you got design but not ship, you will not lose design but you will be only able to use it after you get the main ship.

When they released the NEW Hangar all Stat designs became SHIPS and any design remaining became SKINS and to be able to use a SKIN you need to have a SHIP. You can be awarded many SKINS and not own the SHIP it just prevents you from using it.

Just remember a Skin is just COSMETIC and a Design/Stat is a SHIP, the only thing a DESIGN is for is the Drones.
