[UI] Beneficial Formations

    Why do the special formations, that are available, have to give one thing and take away another.
    You can upgrade generators, lasers, drones, etc. While you become stronger by doing so you do not have to trade a loss somewhere else. These upgrades cost plenty to achieve and worth the effort. However you want 100,000 uri for a formation that boosts this but kills that. Buy the time you factor the trade-offs you might as well stick with a no gain or loss formation. To me the game is personal goals, achievement and advancement. To go backwards anywhere is unacceptable. Anything I am expected to work for, pay for, etc should be for total benefit.

    These formations are like buying a raincoat: Will keep you 100% protected from water BUT it won't zip up and is missing the left sleeve! Come-on REALLY?

  2. It has always been about what you desired more and the formations are no different. Take the Infection from the Parasite Tide Event (2015) when they first hit no one wanted the Plague now people like the added Damage an could care less that they loss speed.

    I have tried to figure out the best formations to get and came to the same conclusion you did, NONE of them are worth the losses for the price they want for them. Maybe if they pout them on discount and I am dumb enough to BUY Uridium on a HELIX sale getting 500% and I get the Rebate and Premium, I might stock up on them but I think "a bad place" might freeze over first.
     
  3. My complaint is more that some drone formations are way stronger than others.

    Anyway, I disagree with you. If you are PvPing then there's a lot of formations you simply need, most notably the Moth and Ring formations. I don't think any formation is for personal gain, it's just for different ship benefits.

    Formations are like parts. You need most of them to make the wholeness. :) You do nothing with Heart itself, but combine with Moth, you don't really lose anything. You transfer the 10% shield bonus and 5% damage reduction to 20% shield penetration. 100 seconds of shield draining is only a little.

    If there was no loss, everyone would be using Drill. 20 Formations, only 1 used. What's the point?

    Do you use L-4 lasers along with everybody else who can acquire them? Do you suffer any loss due to their use? Whats the point???

    First: Different ship benefits is personnel gain, who else does it help?. Second: My point was, regardless what YOU use your formations for, one gets what they NEED but not what they do not. Third: When these are supposed to be a beneficial addition to ones arsenal, that you either paid good money or worked your tail off to get, then why would you even consider garbage content. EXAMPLE: You have surely heard of E-85 fuel. It's sold at some stations. It's a cost savings to purchase per gallon, (i.e. Benefit). However it's poor Octane content requires you to burn much more of it to achieve the same mileage, (i.e. Crap). Perhaps that trade off, for you, is acceptable. Perhaps that's mileage you don't need. Perhaps you feel that when you are driving there are a lot of different mileages you simply need.

    Not everyone has full LF-4 and others do have upgraded ones. So I do suffer a loss, and a huge loss. :) After that, not, but that's why there's configs. E.g. can be more benefit on my playstyle to have less LF-4's than others in one config. That's the point.

    It's just useless if everyone would use same ships and same formations and stuff, don't really understand why there have been lately so much posts about ideas that makes me feel everyone wants everything to be equal. But it makes the game boring.
     
  8. I didn't like it at all when the formations had drawbacks in exchange for a buff, but it does make perfect sense. It forces people to use more skill in fights, and actually think instead of just simply pointing and shooting. The buffs cancel out the negative aspect to make things fair.

    Let's take Ring for example. VOLIA, you are now a tank, that is very hard to kill. 120% shield boost. 25% Less damage, and reduced rocket reload times, overall less DPS.

    Less DPS -> More Tank. You sacrifice damage output in order to increase your ability to survive. BUT! If you are able to deal a lot more damage, their 120% boost can be useless. They wasted a good chunk of their HP dishing out damage less than they normally can. It can be countered by things like moth, which cuts straight through shields, making the 120% boost practically useless!

    Now let's say your idea was implemented.

    120% Shield boost, no debuffs.

    DPS unchanged -> More Tank. You sacrifice nothing in order to gain an ability to survive. There is nothing that can counter it. You can deal a lot of damage? Great, the dude with Ring didn't get any debuffs, it's useless. But, ONLY people that have access to Moth + High Damage will be the only ones to be able to kill the player.

    It's just like how real life works.
    You can't have one item without sacrifice on another.

    Applies to Bodybuilding, machinery, automobiles, etc.
