[GI] Possible unannounced wave of bans?

I've been logging in to my account each day, and trade resources, but i haven't really been playing in a few months, now i have risen in the ranks from position 656 (give or take) then, to the now 617 (noticed that yesterday though).

Unless i've managed to play in my sleep (which would solve my mission grinding problem), my guess would be that a few players have been removed, so that i rose in the ranking.

It's just a theory, but can anyone give their thoughts on the matter?

You may find that with the frustrations of many people that it was just a dormant Player Purge. I know they used to allow accounts to be inactive for 6 months and then were deleted (could be re-activated with contact to Support) and I know I have seen a LARGE number of "Basic Space Pilots" in the top ranks, these usually indicate players that have not logged in for 30 days or more. I would assume this is a server clean up of unused accounts in preparation for the merges coming in the near future.

It also could be a sale of an account or give-a-way ... checking the Daily ranks like I do I see all the users that DO posts or updates in a 24 hr time period . And comparing the user to the bidding page
