[GI] Ranks Back in the day

Not a complaint, just curious... But to the players that have been around for a while, what were the needed rank points that you needed for certain ranks that you remember from back then? I'm a captain, and to become one you need 1.051.000 rank points on my server and my company.

No surprise why this is, i know why, but just wondering

The rank points you are aiming for are for different rank badges. This ranking is only calculated properly once at a day at the normal server reset. At the reset every user is given an absolute value and this is sorted into a table; which is then divided up between the ranks (each rank having a percentage of users with that rank).


Only users who have been in the game for longer than 4 weeks, and are level 2 or above, are counted in the rank table.
The ranks are distributed as follows:

The answer to your question, that was not answered, is it will not compare to today's game. We only had 4 Gates to do and even though there were more active players the TOP PLAYERS were a third of what they are now. This is why so many people say the Rank System is BROKEN. Double Rewards on Honor and Experience with 50% Booster on both has also allowed many Less Than Honorable players to take top spots and keep them without even flying the maps.

 

you seem to be missing the point, i KNOW that table that you showed, but what i asked for were specific numbers, as in how many points needed for a certain rank, seeing as that was the main inquiry, giving me percentages is useless.

Though your question is simple enough the answer is not....

Ranks percentages are based on active player count on a particular server.

For example:
9 Chief Captain (3.00%) This means that the top 3% of a company will have the rank of Chief Captain
If a server has 1000 players in MMO that means that 30 players would have the rank of Chief Captain.
If the same server has 2000 players in VRU that means 60 VRU players will have the rank of Chief Captain.
The Companies are mutually exclusive and not dependant on the other companies. This is why you can see player with less EP and Honor but have a higher rank.

When players change companies, become inactive, return to the game, or are a new player, the numbers of actual players change.
Because the number of players change but the percetange does not then the actual number of Chief Captains can change daily.

If you want to know an actual number on your server, then look at how many players are in a company and then calculate the answer based on the above table.


Higher ranks such as
1 General (Max. 1 person per company) is given a hard number. In this case the highest ranked player in a particular company.

Okay so I will go even further, since the General (Top Spot) was MUCH LOWER than today then the Captain would also be much lower. In 2014 I was a Basic Captain in VRU USA West (different account) and had 205K rank points, my Original MMO account was also a Basic Captain with 212K rank points. This was before the major exodus happened because everyone started doing Galaxy Gates for Rank instead of doing PvP in the maps.

 

...and now all these years later we are here we are, astonishing how fast it all went by

Back in 2008, I was barely level 16 and still made it to Chief Major and consistently was able to keep Major. I did one gate total on that account over the course of a couple of years and basically just shot BKs all day as I was a crap pvper.
I'd say I had maybe 150-200k rank points at MOST.
