  1. Hi,

Just posting out of curiosity really. I notice a lot of players constantly changing there names in game, like every couple of days. Why would you do this?

Makes no sense to me, and just wondered if there was some kind of benefit to it that i wasn't aware of? Just looks like a lot of unnecessary work to me.

    thanks,

    Dark

  2. They have Identity Crisis.

  3. I've heard of a reason why, but cannot discuss it here because of the forum rules.

I personally find it annoying that people change name so much. Would much prefer to see a cost for doing so, and a much longer period before you can change it again; 30 days or so.

I would be against a cost, but for a change in cooldown (30 - 90 days)

You guys could just use DO Stats and look at a person's name if it's really important. I find making it cost to change your name deters people from doing it, but it would cost uri and the people changing their name often usually has millions of uri anyway, so.
As for an extended waiting period, that's fine. Maybe make an initial change limit of 4 for when you first start off. After that, every name change requires a while before you can change it again.

  6. They are trying to keep people guessing about who they are, and where they are. Only those that are totally focused on them will be able to keep up.

Some people change the name just to send a message. Your name in game tells a little something about you and sometimes you just want to advertise a state of mind.

  7. But why though? For what benefit?

Back in the day, everyone could name the top 10 players, there names never changed, but i have no idea who is in the top 10 these days as there names change every couple of days.

Once upon a time getting into the top 10 was a massive achievement because you got your name on the front page and everyone would know you were a top 10 players. I mean whats the point of getting into the top these days, if no-one knows who you are and that your a top 10 player! Back in the day when a top 10 player waded into a chat conversation, there opinion carried some weight, but these days you have no idea whether they are in the top 10 or the top 1000.

i mean whats the point of making it into the top 10 players, if you going to make it such a big secret, may as well settle for 500th!

  8. People are just bored of the same thing. And your right, used to be that you knew who was a top 10 player, but really think about it. Those players did not get there because they were the best with PVP. I am not saying they are not any good at it but most points are made in gates, and you can do gates in peace. People come and get lost in 10-20 gates a day and wham-o, number one position. I personally would not worry about ranking position 1-5000. Your either going to play with them, play against them, or not see them.

Me, I am going back to watching my tail. :p

  9. Probably because the account was sold. But there was another thing where they were doing it to avoid the people turning them in for botting and cheating. Thing is DO doesnt care and it is honestly HUGE if they actually ban a player.

DOStats ain't accurate! On there, you don't even see 3 of the Top 10 Users on this Server. Or, Is there something up here?

  11. That would make sense if the name was changed once, but doesnt add up as the names are changed constantly.

A couple of people have suggested this reason, but DO have said for years very clearly that they wont act up any allegations of cheating behaviour by one player accusing another, no matter what evidence is presented, as the only way they can fairly and effectively catch botters is through the scripts that they run. Everyone knows this so i see no reason why anyone would think differently and believe they have to continuously change there names as a way of evading punishment.

  12. bingo

  13. But it's an entirely different thing when they are actually condoning it

  14. I should update that one. Before I got into clans who knew the people who pulled the scams/cheats/had help I thought there was an odd thing. Then I found out about the clans full of mods and script writers. We would actively discuss them and then when they were out forming a new clan of 'special players' they would have a new clan name and great names like 'fratboyjim' or whatever ha ha they came up with at the time. Currently in the top 200 on my server at least 60% of the ships have changed hands. Some I was friends with and now the person doesnt speak english and logs in from a different country. (DO doesnt notice) I know some that got banned because the new owner actually shot their mouth off in game that they were a different player but its pretty rare and the only ban I have seen actually happen (oops DO wants that cashola)

Its real simple. The game is managed badly and there are too many players in game getting help that should not happen. By the way how many mods do you think built ships using the admin control panel and sold them? How many took that same panel into their ships in the old client and tore up paying players?

  15. And not to mention that all the above is against the Terms of Conditions on this Game

That is pretty interesting if you think about it.
    1) Using Programs
    2) Sharing Accounts
    3) Buying and Selling of Accounts

  16. And we know on east 1 several people who buy accounts and accounts that have been sold

Were they banned? Ever? Nope. Nada.

Sharing accounts? Have you seen certain players act completely diiferent? Nah brother dont shoot on my today

Using programs? Have you seen sunday? The x-7 map? I know 2 ships that have been in x-7 for months now. No ban no script catch. Guys irritate me by locking my thrals right when they come out.

I don't care how much a person changes their name in an honest game. Chickens are happy to change their names after you find them cheating.

  19. Yes, I have seen people act different multiple times. when somebody boast in chat their going on a trip, yet their account is still 'Fighting', that tells you something

And x-7 Maps, you got a hell of a lot more than 2 constantly botting, try more like 32

  20. Hey,

Thanks for all your responses, even if we reared off track on occasions.

The common consensus seems to be that people are changing names regularly to avoid being caught for what we shall call bad behaviour.

What i dont get though, DO haven't banned a player for years, they have clearly said time and time again it is not possible for them to punish a player based on any video/photographic evidence, and that DO can only take action against players caught by there scripts. In fact i dont there has ever been a case where DO have taken action against a player based on them being reported to DO for cheating.

So why would players think otherwise and feel they have to continuously change there name every couple of days to avoid being identified?
