Is it time to cut your losses and leave Dark Orbit in the dust for the newer MMOs out there?

Poll closed Apr 30, 2015.
  1. Yes, my bags are packed! I'm done here!

  2. Maybe, BP is on thin ice with me right now.

    51.2%
  3. No, I love it here!

    13.4%
  4. No, I'm stuck here since I've invested a small fortune!

  1. Well I gave it one last try Rick, and you failed me so far imho. And I realize Rick will never see this, so just humor me guys. I also realize Rick isn't the only person that works on the game, let's just lump them all into the persona of Rick Dekard for the sake of argument.

These next few days I'm gonna give it one last hard look and decide whether this game is worth my future time and money. To say it's been an epic let down is a huge understatement. I will list the things I like and the things I hate about the game's Past, Present, and Future. I will keep it short. Please respond with your thoughts I would love to hear them.

I will reserve my vote in the poll until I have made my final decision.
I like how the boxes are back to not declining in uri payout over time. Bravo!

The increase in CBS building due to ease of gaining mods and repping them is good.

The payment window update is excellent, I like the option to buy things at weekly rates ie box doubler.

The deadly bray and new titles are cool.

The random percentage deals on uri items. a step in the right direction.

    Now the bad news:

Alliances between different company's clans is a terrible idea. The domination event was ruined on my server because of this. Nothing is worse than drawing an enemy over to a cbs to help kill them and realizing they are not getting attacked by it because of one of these alliances. need to be gone. Naps are ok I guess, but I don't care for them either.

The Helix Hack offer. Great offer but not well thought out. This game has had HUGE issues with real hacks and cheating, why name it a hack? DURRRR. And it confused a lot of people. Not me since I read about it in the forums before it happened.

    The broken JPA.

The worst update in gaming history you did recently. Tons of bugs, many remain unfixed.
Supposedly fixed lag, but lag was created out of nowhere, the game ran better two years ago.

Basically nothing new added since I left in august 2013 to focus on Drakensang.(another bp game).

The epic failure of the Low gate redesign.

New players still rage log and never return at alarming rates.

I paid for my gear! i didnt bot! i still have to play with the cheats you let off easy. It's a slap in the face to everyone who played by the rules, and the reason you got no money from me from august 2013 until a month ago. it probably gave a short term boost to sales, but now youre paying the penalty.

The chat box is a major issue. Overly harsh, non uniform bans. it's a joke and part of the reason i may never pay to play here again. needs overhauled but i realize with everything else failing it's not a priority.

The bugs are killing the game, we dont have time to write to support every 5 minutes so it may seem minor on some issues, I assure you they are not.

The "compensations" you give out for major inconveniences to your customers are woefully inadequate.

On my server no one plays sector control, why is it still run ?

I loved scoremageddon this got removed for whatever reason. Cheaters ruining it for everyone probably.

This game has a history of punishing everyone instead of the guilty parties.

  2. Rick Dekard joined the team of your other BP game - Drakensang - a while back.

yeah hence why this game aint been much better since then lmao

  4. Nah. Been playing this for almost free for years now. Premium and rebate once every two months for 2€ is not that much for me. And now since I reached UFE I will try to succeed in JPA, chances of winning are small but why not to try when you can get 10k out from this.

  5. I'll try the JPA but if BP remove this event i'll leave the game lol, just play for the JPA this game is unplayable if this game isnt same like the Old DarkOrbit from 2012-2013.:p:p:oops::rolleyes:

  6. I don't think they are, at least not for me.

  7. I stand by my comments, the remaining and the deleted; past, present, and future.(In the forums, chat, and to support) I will not apologize for my core beliefs as a man, a father, or as a voting citizen of the United States of America, for any one or any purpose.

I understand the stance of the corporate PR machine, it does hold some validity. They must protect their interests.

What isn't valid is insinuating that I am intolerant, flaming, trolling, or displaying anti-social behavior. Standing up for yourself under criticism or comic antagonism is a part of life. Over protection is counter intuitive and harmful to youth. It leads to a lifetime of looking to others to blame their problems on, or feeling entitled to have others solve their problems for them.

My vote is in. [Maybe, but BP is on thin ice right now.]

    Regards,

Former loyal customer of BP. Now I'm not not so loyal, why should I be?

Ps Americans believe in free speech and this extends to speech which offends them.

  8. Free games are expensive to compensate for the free players. No way around it.

I liked BSG, but disliked the scanning all the time thing and that game was expensive too. What DO needs to do is have AI players. Yes, Golis and other ships etc. on AI, but you can experience it in Kronos 'Evil You' and that is tough. BSG has that feature where you are fighting AI instead of 'real' players, but if a 'real' player shows up good luck - haha.

  9. Unfortunately the thin ice is cracking, and the air temperature is rising fast.

I'm just writing a little piece to bump this thread up in the listing I'd like to see more votes even though I know what the consensus is.

DO is dead in the USA. Empty maps. An unfathomable amount of bugs. Yes I know all games have bugs, derp. They all don't have 40 thousand of them I assure you.

I have played for only 1000 hours. I play when I get home for an hour and a half and a little more on the weekends. I'm Fe or close to being FE. I have two ships a Vengi for the weekends and a goli for the upper missions. I like the changes that they have made during my stay here. No ammo cap, smother play.
As a new player I don't expect to reach ufe. I have one 1 lf4.

I like killing ncps while looking over my back for a hunter. I also like to hunt though rarely ( burns too much good ammo )

Why have I stayed around, I always say hey in global chat and someone always say hey back. The slow pace of the game even at my level is or can be tedious, but on the other hand I like it.

Sci-fi has been one of my great escapes for the last many years and now I play online against others, what fun!

  11. The thing that is the most annoying is the fact that at the core, the game is really good. How the game is run by the higher-ups is another thing entirely.

  12. They still do.

Bags are packed and have been probably since the new client was released and bot players almost destroyed the game, many of which never even got caught and are still slapping us in the face. I just don't play so often now and as for spending ££$$ on this game has stopped.

To me what ruins the game is the alliance. I hate it. No help from the cbs anymore, no help from the players anymore, your own company is killing you. Its like If 3 enemy players is attacking me in battle map and i fly to cbs for some help because obviously i cant fight back 3 ships alone and then i realise that no one will help me instead in some cases i have 4 or 5 (2 of them my own company) ships killing me. DO has done some idiotic things but this is just plane stupid. Please dont ruin the game like that!!! (i dont think in pvp game enemies can be allies)

PS: now noobs have even more difficult to survive in this game because friendlyes are not protecting them anymore.

  15. Yes the enemy alliance is beyond a terrible idea, but the cbs not shooting enemy companies is the worst of it that needs to go!

  17. This is indeed nice thread, and the question you are asking is kinda deep, you know.

First of all, I have played this game since the first versions. I have to say, I really like this kind of games, space, sci-fi. Someone above me mentioned, the basic idea of this game is great, really. That's why most of the players keep playing today. Although, if we compare that times with the situation now, it is true that the game has developed a lot, and mostly on a good way, maybe. Still, in this game you can achieve everything without paying a single dollar, I guess we all know that. If we compare this game with other MMO games out there, players here are in much better position in achieving "everything" in the game. It may take some time, but it is achievable.

And that clan alliance thing, you know, get it like this. Sometimes, you make alliance with someone cause you really help each other, so that alliance is a true alliance. Thus said, there must be some "non true" alliance. And that's the case, we sometimes make alliances with someone cause maybe both clans are strong and can't stop shooting each other, so they realize it may be good for CBS and that stuff. But, when it comes for other help then CBS, don't expect that. I am fairly familiar with this, cause in the clan I am in the moment, we have this true and non-true alliances. :)

On the other hand, I do agree that maybe some events have to be changed, adjusted so they are more enjoyable for all players (not just events for UFE's). I find this days for a new player to progress, I have to say that I tried this myself and something must be done like level restrictions so UFE's can't shoot new players around. That's really annoying.

Overall, I haven't thought of leaving the game, and I think I will never will. As I said above, I like the basis of the game, no matter how hard it is to get to UFE or whatever. I just enjoy the game, and mostly play it for fun. :) Just enjoy it, have some friends around for party and the game will be much interesting for all the players. People say: "Don't do Hades, useless gate. Not good rewards" - maybe it's true! But, you are with whole group there, working together to achieve something, and for me, group gates are really interesting and challenging in the same time. That's why I keep on doing Hades (although I haven't received a single LF4, damn it :().

You know what is the biggest trouble in the game right now? That the new players can't get any help from the stronger ones. There were days when all the players tried to help each other in groups. But suddenly, all of that kinda disappeared and people got "enclosed". For example, on my server 80% of clans say this: "If you are not a friend, don't apply!". Why? Why shouldn't a new player get your help? Isn't that greedy? So, we come to the step where UFE's hunting are not a problem, overall player behavior is a problem. I don't know how this happened, but I think DO needs to do something in a way of supporting players that help new players etc. That's how the game will start getting on much better again.

    Cheers :)

  18. I agree with your thoughts about true and non true alliances. Those out of friendship and those out of convenience just because of circumstances. Depending on the size of the clans the no true alliances may not last very long from what I have seen. Even the true alliances break down over time as not everyone in the two clans are not really friends with each other. Players have their own mindsets and sometimes the clans themselves start to splinter due to ones mind at a given time. I have seen tensions build when players that are not really friends in a clan get bent out of shape over something; cubes for example. The respect is not always there.

Your comment about how people in the game is spot on. You can see it as you fly around, and see players you never see in chat. That could be the case for various reasons. Maybe the friends they had don't play anymore. A reason I have sometimes is I am working on something else. If a player, including me, is just sitting around doing nothing I don't see why a new player or veterans, can not get any help. But sometimes a player is busy, or planning for the future, as far as how that player is going to take care of certain things and may not want to spend any credits, uri, or ammo they were not planning on spending.

I like helping players when they get started. It was something I did not get and feel I need to turn the thoughts around. Players don't know they need to build the skylab when they start playing, and even when they figure it out, they don't know the right way to get the skylab going. With everyone talking about "getting sep" on ammo and shields, the new players don't realize how critical getting the collectors built up is important to the entire production. The rush to Seprom is too great and it is a 2 to 3 month process that is not explained even in the DO Bible.

At the same time, new players need to be encouraged to become vocal, err, chatty. We have to know you need or even are open to help when you start playing. There is nothing worse than getting the feeling you were forcing help upon a player and they fly away without so much as a Thank You. A lot of those players don't make it past the initial "premium" period. DO really needs to give new players an entry period that stresses playing as a group and companionship.

  19. Totally agree, as I have said above I have tried my self to check what's the situation with the new players. Created new account just to give it a try, I can say this: 50 times destroyed in 2 hours. Yes, you read good. 50 times. I don't know if anything else is more demotivating than this.

  20. the fact that you have to spend years or 1000's bucks to get good ship..
lets face it this game is doomed, unless they make it easier new ppl will never stay to play.
