  1. Hey, so I did a lot of research into which of these lasers is better for both PvP and alien destroying. I think it's very clear that prometheus is better for destroying aliens (especially the Blacklight, while everything else it's not as good); I broke the PvP side down into sections;

So, the most obvious thing is that it deals more damage every 5 seconds by double or by 28,350 damage. Is this a lot? Well, not really because those attacks between the 5 second reload time (for example if we assume you attack four times with the same ammo (UCB-100) during that time it's actually around 2,240 less. So it's a lot closer than it might seem at first.

Of course these figures have to be done based on an average laser shot without taking the full variance into consideration.

If you aren't full hyperplasmoids, I think prometheus is better, but if you are I really don't know. I've done some PvP against full prometheus with hyperplasmoid and it seems to depend on how you fight and there isn't really one that's outright stronger or an automatic win.

If you wanna read my thread about it feel free too, but I got so sick of everyone saying Prometheus is better just because it has 200 extra base damage every 5 seconds so I challenged it and the results are quite interesting to whether it's actually better or not.

The real question realy is; Is using Prometheus going to make moth viable again? If moth receives any kind of buff then it will be due to your low hitpoints when using full of these lasers.

I'm still not 100% sure which is better, but Prometheus is not stronger to the point you automatically win with them.

  2. The debate over hyperplasmoids versus prometheus lasers comes down to their static and dynamic capabilities.

During a PvP encounter, any benefit that the hyperplasmoid provides ceases when your HP drops below the additional HP % amount it gave. On the other-hand, no matter how low your HP gets when using prometheus lasers, the benefit they provide lasts up until your ship is destroyed, or when the encounter ends.

Prometheus is clearly the superior weapon to use in most ships and is more versatile in the majority of Dark Orbit PvP encounters, except for maybe if you combine the hyperplasmoids with a citadel or a HP design centurion--but that would be a debate for another time.

  4. HI All,

I agree with Almost. What I seen and what I have read why change. You loose your weapons you had a hard time leveling up to 16th level (all that Uridium you spent)(waisted), (DARK ORBIT is laughing at you all the way to the bank) all the ore you saved up (from Syklab to fill lasers, rockets and shields), and more slots for weapons (ship, drone, and P.E.T.) that are empty of Prometheus Laser. "my other post/reply on this." Just on my main ship I need 45 (if I double up in drone) Prometheus Lasers to fill my slots, and you get 10 to start off (if I'm right). Even at 10 Prometheus lasers that is 25 lasers that runs on Seprom.

Before I would change several things needs to happen. 1st I need all the Prometheus Lasers at the ready in my inventory. 2nd I need to spend my Lasers and Rockets Seprom down to a level I feel like empty, which I don't when i'm around 3-8 million depending on which server I'm on. AND 3rd I need to see real numbers in why to change.

I'm not a PvP type of guy. I like fighting aliens, and what I got works.

    Angus

  5. At the start of the fight you have less hitpoints than someone who isn't running full Prometheus. To be honest, I'm still collecting full so I can test different configurations to see which is better.
I'm not saying hyperplasmoids is definitely better in all situations, but it seems to be better on your fast configuration.

I mean, end of the day if it's a 2v1 you're [REMOVED] anyway right?

    @WarriorAngus :
The old lasers still work just fine.
Prometheus just do a little bit more damage which is absolutely irrelevant in your situation.

When you just kill aliens and don't play competitive for rank or fight with players at an advanced level, which would mean that you need to play as efficient as possible, there is no need in getting Prometheus lasers at all!

Play on as you used to, when you get low on seprom one day, you can still start doing the laser missions.

Don't let such updates turn you down or destroy your fun in the game:)

  7. They do more damage in Blacklight, so if the person wants to do that map it's very good for them to start collecting these lasers if they can destroy Impulses in groups or with friends or even just alone; otherwise it's better to just go for other lasers, especially if you don't want to PvP.

  8. PVP or not, Prometheus lasers are the superior laser cannons available in the game as of the current update of the game, HP doesn't matter so long as you have enough shields and Energy Leech to sustain your ship while your shields is maintained before its all gone and your enemy is still alive and running your ship off the corner of the map.

Hyperplasmoid Lasers are only some sort of an add-on towards most ships with a large amount of HP to begin with, using these lasers over Prom lasers is debatable base on player's preference, and not to mention the number of Prom lasers they have and if they should craft Hyperplasmoid lasers to accommodate the lack of lasers slots if the said player doesn't have enough Prom lasers to fill their drones or their ship.

Full Prom lasers on both ships and drones is devastatingly destructive, even if players combine both Hyperplasmoid lasers on ships, and prom lasers on drones, the damage difference can't be compared since there is a large gap in between Hyperplasmoid and Prom lasers.

Base on your statistics you've only multiplied the laser damage by a certain number of laser salvos in a fight.

It takes a lot of laser salvos to compare the difference between the Hyperplasmoid and the Prom lasers, from which Prom Lasers has a far bigger damage variance over the base damage of Hyperplasmoid laser can offer, and not to mention a 5 salvo damage bonus (5 second cooldown on the bonus laser damage) which is also, affected by any damage boosters, and ammo type.

Remember, there isn't really a clear view of the damage variance on how much a prom laser can deal, but the 5 salvo damage bonus is a solid number of its base damage (i've seen 500 while i tested it out using a phoenix ship without any damage boosters such as SEP, Booster1 or Booster2 (bo1, bo2))

All in all, HP is only your last line of defense before you die, but since there is a small amount of damage passing through your shields every salvo shot at your ship by an enemy, HP is relevant at that moment, it doesn't need to be that high because Shield is what gives you your ship's defense, without shield you're just giving way to players to kill you instantly.

Any ship that deals around 100k~150k x4 and someone is using a suicide config, you should expect them to die in just a few rounds if they don't switch over to their shield configs fast.

Also, there is no such thing as "Damage Reduction" in the game besides the ability of the citadel, so if you see a ship that doesn't go below 20% of their ship's HP when you are hitting around 100k or more, better expect them to be using some sort of cheat, avoid these players at any cost, not worth wasting their time anyway, they've got their own stupid world to fly around the map let them be, they are like a child waiting for their candy to be fed to them.

  9. lol who hits 150k with x4 anymore? Thats numbers from almost a decade ago. And you can bet any cyborg that knows how to fight and using run suicide will eat you in seconds. Same goes for centurion dmg design , hecate and now pusat.

And there are actually numerous ways to "reduce dmg taken" but im not here to provide spoilers as its things an experienced pvper learns and hard knocks is the best teacher.

  10. I just came from the "Bots and Cheats" department and i've complained about something there, and i know what i'm talking about because some guy hits relatively average (probably not on sep nor double boosted) his centurion was really fast, the color of his centurion was somewhat of a purple hue? or its one of the centurion ship design you were talking about that increases damage dealt? yet his ship was faster like a vengeance chasing me to death without using wheel?

Hacks my friend, Hacks, it exist and its out there, that's why i don't fight some guy who doesn't talk on chat because they probably are doing something fishy on the background.

The yellow category are passive speed designs, and in the purple list there are 2 designs that have speed buff. I am also curious who you asked about said scenario.

  12. Honestly you can use either Prom lasers , magma or hyperplasmoid. Its all player preference and there is no wrong way to go about it. Anybody stating that a certain laser is best here is not an 'Ace" in the maps. The road to victory is to consistently test new ideas and see which best fits your play style. When the citadel first came out everybody on my server told me it was trash, till I was winning 1v30 in clans wars daily. And it only worked because I tested my configs over and over to find "my way" of flying that ship. Even now nobody wants to fight my citadel and would rather run from it.

So you keep testing your items and find your way of playing the game. But I will say you do want to atleast have 1 ship full of proms for BL maps as the more prom lasers you have the more beneficial that map is. But you arent losing anything by not going there yet as DO is always releasing new toys.

Glad to hear someone is experimenting, Citadel is a great ship, especially with the ship modules.

Anyway I still think that Prometheus are the best with the only exception being ships that have a lot of HP (Citadel, Solace, Hammerclaw) and therefore gain much more HP from an HP bonus than ships with less HP (Spearhead, Pusat).

  14. Everyone is comparing the Prometheus laser to the HP-LF4. What I would like to see is some opinions on the Prometheus laser VS MD-LF4 .I started upgrading my MD'S when assembly was updated. Since I started reading this thread I decided to focus on my Proms. Can't afford to do both , at least not yet.

  15. HP-LF4 is mainly compared to Prom lasers is because its actual HP Bonus added for each laser equipped on your ship or drones out-benefit the extra damage that either MD or PD can offer, in terms of damage, Prom laser is still superior in either PD or MD, Prom lasers has a greater maximum damage other than its Base damage, which is still unconfirmed but even if it did only had a base damage of 220, it still retains its position as the best laser there is with its 5 second bonus damage on every 5th salvo or every other 5 seconds (it is triggered in real time, but not effectively timed so per laser salvo shot is a better method of determining it)

  16. (Prom base dmg is 210. with extra 200 dmg every 5 seconds.) ( Hp base dmg 225.) (MD base dmg 230. PD 230.)

Its not an extra 200 damage every 5 seconds, the override function of the lasers each 5th laser salvo or 5 seconds doubles the amount of the base damage a Prom laser can do.

There is unconfirmed details of how much damage the prom lasers has but the damage bonus every override function varies from 400~500, meaning the average damage a prom laser deals is in between 220~250 damage, 210 is just the minimum damage it can deal.

Someone needs to test out a prom laser without all Pilot bio effects that affects damage factors on aliens or pvp, but it is confirmed that it will deal almost x4 damage against Black Light NPCs (3.5x to be exact)

The prom laser's damage variance is similar to that of an Unstable LF-4 which has a minimum and maximum damage it can do, Prom lasers are somewhat adapted as an Unstable LF-4 with much better damage output and less fluctuation on its maximum and minimum base damage, as well as an override function.

As people say it is the laser that has broken the game, i saw people doing almost 300k damage in combo with RSB on some occasions, this is why i have suggested that the developers needs to consider upgrading the other mid-tier lasers that are just below the Prom lasers because Prom lasers are really on another level compared to the LF-4 variants.

This is Silent Walker by the way, couldn't access my own forum account because of a migration of forums as per say by a cm on chat so i'm temporarily using another account to respond to replies on threads that i watch.

The numbers shown here are accurate. https://board-en.darkorbit.com//threads/blacklight-faq.123290/ and ill be nice enough to share that yes there are boosting factors that work on this laser just not the way you think it does or what others may be telling you as none of them can work a calculator apparently. The 210 base dmg and 200 scatter are both solid as show from faq then there are bonuses to the laser that affect both its base dmg and its bonus dmg. Increasing number of proms does not however increase the affects of bonus dmg its not different than stacking other lasers where the dmg gets bigger and bigger. And I can combo well over 500k without running a full set of proms.

210+12%(bio)=235.2 +20%(bo1/b02 booster)= 282.24 + 60%(sep) = 451.584 which is half way up so round to 452 +20%(drill) = 542.4 then if you add lvl 16 (7.5%) = 583.08 now you add 200 dmg thats 783. but if you pay attention to your numbers you will see more than 200 bonus dmg from that single laser which i`m sure everybody can figure out what actually boost that number.
Everything you need to find your answers for dmg output is easily accessible on backpage "in-game" and in faq links on forums. So if anyone cant find the answers then I suggest they avoid being part of number topics as it diverts new players from truth.

So we can assume the damage fluctuates from 210 base damage (min) and around 260 (max) since as stated there is a 25% damage variance (probably means 25% of base damage) and the actual override damage every 5 second only adds 200 damage instead of doubling its damage dealt base on what the wiki says.

Thank you for clearing that out, so we can assume that this laser isn't entirely making the other LF-4 variants too weak but relatively balanced atleast being it the best laser there is but making the LF-4 variants an option to choose from.

  20. Where is that 260 coming from? dmg variance is how likely you are to hit max value. Being 210 on a lvl 1 prom laser. Like how the magma used to be a dmg variance of 35% or so rendering that laser a waste since you very rarely ever hit highest number until recent updates.
