[TI] Connection issues

  1. Hello!

    I'm in the UK. Starting a couple of weeks ago I found myself unable to get into the game. I could log in but then it would just sit there at 'Establishing Connection' indefinitely.

    The strange thing was that I wasn't alone, as my DO playing friends here in the UK had the exact same problem. At the same time, friends on mainland Europe had no problem getting into the game.

    We literally tried everything: different browsers (Chrome, Edge, IE, Safari, you name it), different computers running a range of OSes (Windows, Mac, Linux), we tried clearing cookies and internet data, we tried re-installing flash, we tried other servers, we created a new account and even changed internet connections (we also tried via mobile networks!) and various other things. Nothing worked.

    Since it became clear the problem wasn't on our ends and that friends in mainland Europe didn't had the problems we here in the UK had I suspected that DO may have started to employ geo-blocking. So I setup a VPN with an exit node in a EU country and lo and behold, it worked!

    The question now is what's going on here. Because it's clear that there is some geo-blocking going on when it only requires a (virtual) change of location to get back into the game. So why are UK players being blocked?
     
  2. UK player here, game works fine. If you were being blocked you'd know about it because you wouldn't even be able to load darkorbit.com.

    Do note that the game has been suffering from really bad issues lately which has left certain players completely unable to log in to the map at times.

    If you're still experiencing this issue then I'd be glad to take a look at it. I am quite tech savvy and know my way around things.

  3. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate that we are not blocked because we are still able to login.

    However, the fact is that five people with completely different systems can only enter the actual game when they pretend to be located in Germany or Austria or another EU country, but not when their originating IP comes from the UK. So there definitely is something going on here which isn't caused by something on our side.
     
  4. Unfortunately it could be neither your nor DarkOrbit's fault. The public internet is vast and has many players involved. I wouldn't be surprised if perhaps an ISP was at fault.

    Out of curiosity, are you able to play when you use the VPN set to the UK?
     
  5. Hey all,
    I had a strange problem yesterday - I could login like normal for the first half of the day, but when I came back later it would permanently hang on establishing the connection to the game server. Website (hangar, shop etc) worked fine, only the game world (after pressing start) seemed affected. This started somewhere in the afternoon (around 3-ish) and persisted throughout the rest of the day.
    I was about halfway through my alpha-gate for the last summer mission when I had to leave for a bit, but my few dozen attempts to re-enter the game world later were sadly futile.
    I tried the following:
    - check at multiple different times, to see if it was perhaps a temporary problem
    - check my connection (everything else worked, even the hangar etc had no issues)
    - restart pc
    - clear cookies/cache
    - using both client and browser
    - using a different browser and incognito modes
    - using a different pc
    - using my mobile hotspot on cellular internet
    - using a VPN and connecting from another country (issue perhaps similar to a recent thread about blocking people from the UK? Hence I tried)

    Alas, to no avail.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue? I could log back in like normal again this morning. Unfortunately I did waste 1500 energy on building alpha and missed out on the last summer mission because of this, so I would appreciate any information :p

  6. Yes, other people are experiencing this issue. It is a bug that seems to randomly occur. I've been advised that support are currently just instructing people to wait for a server restart, so there is no known fix.

    Sometimes switching to another hangar will work, but from what I understand trying to jump to another map will just leave you stuck again.

    I am also having problems logging into the game I can access the first window but anything after that is a No NO :( and I am also in the UK

    lol ive been tying for an hour and a quarter cant log in to game screen but everything on back page works the message says connection was interupted

  10. Many people has this problem. It started with assembly bug ending with not working servers...

    Same has happened just now establishing connection then interrupted wait another 9 hrs i suppose

    They need to do something about all these issues its getting out of hand at this point. Cant even play a game that we spend money on better be some kind of prem/rebate refund for this.

    im uk as well and havent been able to get on today keeps losing conn saying "connection was interupted

    Dont think its a UK issue as I have tried using a vpn still cant login.
     
  15. Same here, I can log in to the main page but when I try to load the game window I just get "connection interrupted". It was working about an hour and a half ago. Is this related to the server restart?

  19. Wow, surprises me to see this many people with similar problems, at least reaffirms that the problem is likely not on our side.
    If they manage to identify and solve the issue behind this, is there anything we could ask for in 'compensation'? For I would appreciate the summer missions event to be extended a bit, I hope that's reasonable : )
    (Then again, I had no monetary investment like premium ongoing at the moment, sorry to hear for those who did)
