I absolutely agree with you that the range at which you see ships /aliens on your mini map is related to what you can see on your screen. It is like saying black is black or day is day. So what does that add to the thread?

Why are you once again focusing so much on a point that is so irrelevant?
THE MINI MAP IS NOT RELEVANT TO THIS DEBATE
Your are totally ignoring the fact that 2 account can have massively different relative viewing distance.
"The reason it is relevant to this thread was because after a certain resolution, the distance you can see becomes irrelevant, why bother to see half way across the map when resources won't even load in that far away?"

Fact :- Resolution is insignificant to the distance you can see an enemy ship on your screen.
The resolution compared to aspect ratio, does not affect the distance you can see. explain your point here:-"
why bother to see half way across the map when resources won't even load in that far away?"

I have already shown that just by changing aspect ratio I can see a far greater distance in relation to another ship. Resolution had nothing to do with that.

The thread is about the potential for 1 ship to gain an advantage over another from the monitor view. Or at least the accusation of auto locking from this issue.

It would be possible and better for all, if the relative viewing distance was the same for all accounts.

    Hahahahah
Please see the same thing you keep on telling me in many of you posts:

There is not a certain range of distance "at which resources load in"

Oh well, you can only laugh I suppose.
It's the other way round by the way, what you can see on your minimap dictates what you can see on your screen, not what is on your screen is what your minimap sees or people with smaller resolutions would see less on their miniamp.

I don't think I even need to really say anything here.

Before the limitless resolutions all the old resolution options saw the exact same amount of game screen did they? There was no difference between the smallest option and the biggest?

I'm done Pacman, had enough of your complete spam.

If you want a good example of how different some players view of the space map is then take a look at this vid that was made of me a few years ago , the person i attack in 1-8 accused me of using auto lock which is something i have never done and never would . I used to play on a large monitor on highest res settings and i could see a whole lot more of the space map then the person i was attacking could .
You can blatantly tell the other person is using a much smaller screen size by the way their user interface is so scrunched up , this person was using the same kind of screen size that i used to use on my laptop and i know for a fact that you cant see as much of the space map compared to someone using a much larger screen with better res , when using my desktop i was able to see maybe 4 or 5 inches of map MORE all around the edges then the player i was attacking could ! Its understandable that this person thought i was using autolock due to the fact they could not see me on their map but i could see them on mine .

The above link is perfectly safe its just a youtube vid nothing dodgy .

Would also like to add that anyone who thinks this is autolock is probably one of the people who accuse everyone everytime they get popped , anyone who knows what they are talking about will be able to easily spot that this is NOT autolock .
This is probably one of the reasons why bigpoint do not accept video evidence as there are just too many factors to take into consideration .

  5. They should just make a staging system for all the players who accuse on chat. That would sort it out ;) .

    Hello,
This conversation has sparked my curiosity as to how do I get my computer screen to show more of the map. I have tried zooming out, but it only works with the back page. I have looked in my browsers settings and have not found anything that i think will help relating to this.

    Thanks,

I've also tried to zoom in and out function but it doesn't appear to do anything whether fullscreen or not. The only option I know is to get a monitor with a higher resolution. Pacman says there is a way but I don't know it, hopefully he will comment here.

I play on a resolution of 2560x1440 and that enables me to see this much of the space map:

Lengthways I can see about twice as far as I can shoot.

  8. So by what your saying if I played on a projector or even a
cinema screen I would see even more of the map ??
(I think we both know how silly that sounds ;))

Auto Lock accusations exist because ... people use auto lock
I do agree this accusation is used a lot when people:

    Are inexperienced
    Are Lagging
    Are outplayed
    Have crappy Internet connection
    Have a crappy CPU

People that do not fall into those categories that accuse
other players should be taken seriously, players that :

    Are Experienced
    Do not lag
    know how to play
    Have Decent Internet connection
    Have a Decent CPU

Playing darkorbit on your tv will cause you get something
called "Input lag" .. I have 52" tv and i get 33 milliseconds

of input lag an thats using the Gaming Mode Option
    (basicly delayed by 2 frames)

There's an easy test for this
all you need is a camera a pc screen and tv screen
Have a timer running on your pc screen (thats also showing on your tv screen)
then take a picture and compare the results!!

I've been trying to tell him the exact thing for so long now ...me and okapi .he just doesn't get it // this is limited by your screen's resolution ..if he has a smaller resolution he won't be able to see as much as people with higher resolution

Fact "There is not a certain range of distance "at which resources load in""
If you are able to see more on your screen then the distance at which resource is loaded in will also change. So the range is not constant.

I find it sad that you focus on irrelevant points rather than the key points.

It is not either way around they work together one does not dictate the other.

You ignored the relevant part of that post:-

Firstly you only posted part of what I posted there, I was comparing resolution with aspect ration. my first post showed how much more could be seen just from changing aspect ration.

Before the limitless resolutions there was differences in the amount that could be seen relative to different resolution settings.
I even made a thread in the old forum showing the issue. I don't get what you are on about with smallest option and biggest options, different resolution settings had different aspect ratios each would give varying viewing distance in one or both direction.
If you are done then make it so, rather than keep making a big thing of the insignificant parts of a debate.

It is you that does not get it.
My first post clearly demonstrates that I am viewing two account and can massively affect the relative viewing distance between both ship just by changing the aspect ratio.
The two account are on the Same PC, with the Same Resolution settings and Same Monitor.
The only change made in those images was the aspect ration of the second browser window.

Before I can understand what is going on here, I have no idea what are "aspect ratios".
I have seen Pacman use them so much, yet I don't know what he's talking about. Can someone elaborate on this?

  14. Okapi32

    Okapi32 User

Ratio of pixels, width and height. 16:9 is the most common I think.
If you want to know your own ratio then just find your screen resolution then paste it into google with "aspect ratio" on the end.

Whatever aspect ratio you have, your resolution will scale to it.

  15. Can we get back to he point of this hread instead of what appears to be a personal vendetta between to people who are taking this thread too far & getting personal.

I fall into the 2nd category of players €Lφ€-ƒôr¢€™ has indicated ...

    Are Experienced
    Do not lag
    know how to play
    Have Decent Internet connection
    Have a Decent CPU.

I will admit that I do get lag on ocasions, but that tends to be when my pc is running too many programs & I am downloading things as well as listening to music & most likely using Skype at the same time.

I had one of the lowest ping scores when last DO/BP did their test & when I posted my internet connection results in a post, I believe it was WhiteLazer who replied that he was actually jealous of my internet connection. My FPS are normally in the mid-50s at least.

On top of that, I normally tend to play from an upgraded Acer i5 series touchscreen pc with a 26" screen or a Quad-core AMD gaming pc with a 32" inch LED tv.

I am also a very old school player who spends far more time hunting & in enemy maps than my own company's maps.

The problem is that I hae been locked onto by certain enemy players in a manner/way which I believe to be out of the ordinary. I know all the tricks (ways) of stealthily creeping up to players whilst cloaked when they are doing cubes, surrounded by various npcs etc & know how to stay just out of range in case EMPs are used. Yet I have seen certain players shooting npcs then lock straight onto me. What is even worse, is when they take thei lock off & go back to the npc & lock me again or when I use an EMP & they shoot the npc & still lock me again.

There will be all kinds of reasons made & excuses offered for what happens. But, the fact remains that I am an old school player who knows how to play this game & can recognise what is effectively an autolock.

Remember this, the UI was changed & firing range of players' ships was changed after their was a podcast/video released by a DO games developer who openly admitted that he was fed up with being autolocked upon!!

Autolocks do exist & will continue to exist probably until the end of time & these programs are normally made by people outside of the game in order for them to sell & make money - & it is a most likely scenario that some of these outside people will be damn better at doing this than DO develpoers are at counteracting it & doing their jobs!!

The fact is straight & simple .. AUTOLOCKERS do exist & will continue to exist. My only question to them is this .. Would you allow yourselves to sink to such a low despicable level in real life in order to get your kicks & also would you teach your own children these bad things & allow them to grow up in the real world being someone who is of a somewhat dishonest nature.

Let's face, if you cheat in an online game to get your kicks & to get one up on the other person, then the likelihood is that you are going to be the type of person who would probably do it in real life .. which would make you DISHONEST & a CHEATER!!

I see similar to what you see. Is it 27'nch screen?

I am getting too much accusation of locking nowadays, when i Lock em from far away and I go in shooting em before they see me , I am So called "Auto".
I dont know if most people know that Bigger screen = Bigger views although the shooting range are same.

Sorry if i didnt make sense. But i tried

  17. Why is this thread still going? lol

At the end of the day, who needs to discuss how autolocks work, we all know who you are, and we all know who obviously uses it lol.

    end off :D.

  18. -Pacman2-

The thread is actually about players that are accused of auto locking as a result of being able to see a ship that can not see them. Not autolockers.

As Okapi32 points out, aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between the height and width.
In relation to DarkOrbit, it is the width compared to the height of the game viewing area.

I would say, it is not the size of the monitor, or resolution, that significantly affect the relative ship to ship distance that is in view.

Without testing all resolution setting on all types of monitors I would say with reasonable confidence, that a player using a wide screen monitor using a standard full screen set-up, is likely to see a shorter relative ship to ship distance when the ship are above or below each other, compared to a player using a monitor that has similar width to height dimensions. Regardless of the resolution settings or actual size of the monitor.

Easy solution to everyone having different views of the space map is turn back time by 6 years :D back to the days of playing in a tiny pop-out window that had no res settings , no full screen options and everyone had the same view of the map

Sorry my englsih is not that good enough to understand those technical words.I would prefer simple sentences.

But i know I have bigger screen and i can see further - I have advantage over who can't. They Pop they Moan.

If we all see same amount on game page then they shoudnt moan about gettng Locked from when i am not in thier screen right? After all If i can seem them They can see me right??

Yet they complain about not seeing me in Screen and some over Exaggerate and says They couldnt even see me on MinimaP!
