Cargo Bay Expansion CPU and different configs

    If I have the cargo expansion equipped in config 1 and than switch to config 2 which doesn't have it equipped, do I lose the cargo that exceeds the ships normal cargo limit?

    No you don't lose the cargo itself, you just lose the extra cargo capacity.

    So, if I happen to have a full cargo, then switch to the config without the cargo expansion, I won't lose the surplus?

    You won't lose the extra cargo but will lose the extra cargo bay space.
