Closing the door behind you

Here's an idea the bigger players would love and everyone else will hate...

Have a Gate deactivation function that is only available to the stars of each company. That means it could only be activated by a Colonel rank or above.

Let's say for this example, a Basic General was able to shut down the jump points into map 2-7 between 2-5 and 2-8. Ships from any company would reach a locked gate. Ships could still jump in using the advanced jump function and ships could leave the map via the advanced jump, the JP-1 or JP-2 jump CPUs.

Let's also say that any locked gate would automatically unlock after 5 minutes. So there's no chance someone could lock off a gate and leave it that way for any long period of time.

So... Why would this be helpful?

Can you imagine the CBS battles if the enemy came in but could not get out? lol

Can you imagine the HITAC being hunted and someone locking off the port?

Can you imagine the strategy changes that would be required for these big planned hunts if a group of 8 hunters suddenly found they were locked in or out?

Now to be fair a VRU colonel could not lock off the port of an EIC map. It would have to be your own maps. And portals into and out of the 4-x maps would not be lockable.

But this would finally give a function to a player based strictly on RANK. And that would make rank more than just bragging rights. Those with the STARS would finally control something.
