A bunch of questions that needs to be answered.

    1) Why is Dark Orbit such a memory-heavy game when its just a really basic flash game?

    2) Why does the homepage alone uses up more cpu usage memory than a full blown game such as Red Orchestra or even Arma 3?

    3) Why do I have extreme lag when im in Auction? This is especially the case after the two server restart this morning. Prior to it, I could bid 4 items in the last 45 seconds, now I can only bid 1 item every 3 minutes.

3a) Why am i getting laggier in-game after the server restart, i.e. memory usage in game window goes up tremendously faster than normal which leads to drop of FPS over time.

3b) How come only the Auction page gets really laggy while other page goes 'smoothly' with negligible lag? Personally, only three page that I think should be lag free, Hangar, Shop, and Auction; the rest can be as laggy as you want as long as these three runs smoothly

    4) How come I only get 62 Fps maximum when I could play WoT and WT at 108 Fps?

For the love of god dont say clear your cache. Me reading that is like going to a computer shop about a problem and the tech guy asking either "is your device switched on" or "Is it plugged in".

    Other questions to follow.

[EDIT: #2 is not CPU usage but memory usage]
    [EDIT: 3a rectified]

It only updates for two reasons.

    1) You hit refresh

    2) You bid on something

Both actions doesnt permit the abnormally long loading time and the subsequent 'mini-crash' after loading the auction page.

  4. Well lets see what does cause lag...
    1) Your Cache Being Filled
    2) Internet Connection
    3) Quality of Computer
    4) Add's in the Background
    5) Whining in Forums
    6) Having more than just Darkorbit open on your computer

    _-DarkSlide-_ and cooljak96 like this.
  5. Everything in DarkOrbit is working for me, bar Auction House. I struggle to bid as it takes a significant amount of time for me to find what I wish to bid on and for the bid to then register.

Thank you for being more than awful.

To play this game, That is pretty much Step 1 all the time. Just for this game. Trust me, I wouldnt go to the forum if I did this primitive step. As you can see from my forum signature, im a lurker and doign this on the forum is pretty much last step on a lurkers want to do list on a forum.

I got fast 100 MB internet connection all to myself. If theres a problem with the internet, it wont be 10 hours long.

It is impossible to play Arma 3 on a toaster. If my laptop can play Arma 3 on high graphics, I should be able to play this basic Flash game at minimum quality

Adblock is on all the time. And no, when Adblock is disabled, it still lags like crazy. Its not the Adblocks problem

I waited mroe than 10 hours for someone to talk about the immense lag and yet no one seems to care about it, hence why I put it on forum. Isnt that what a forum for? Discussing a problem and getting it rectified.

Just like #1 and just for this game, I always close all programs except for the windows task manager and the two game tabs.

Question time, continued from OP since its not answered at all.

    5) Why is it that people that play this game always blame other user's equipment when it is proven by the user themselves that we can play high-end games that has a higher minimum requirement that Dark Orbit?

[EDIT: Made it more user friendly to read]

  7. I don't lag much but I agreed to you, This game is nothing, its like playing mario, even its graphics aren't good, I could play World Of Tanks, World Of Warplanes and not lag at all and this game lags alot. In this game, our ships are like stickers pasted onto a paper with the picture of space. Really, this game needs some fixing up. I bought my new computer for this game and it still lags when it is actually a gaming laptop. and all they say is Clear your cache, whatever rubbish.

And btw how does whining in forum makes the game lag? Ok, let me whine for one day and lets see what happens, Whine, Whine, Whine.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the auction appears to have too much javascript running simultaneously, and since (as far as i know) Flash is based on one processor and one only and the rendering etc is done on multiple cores, then the heavy scripts on the auction page that are ran when bidding/updating etc (I think they re-run the update script for every single item on all three tabs when you reload or bid, which means they are running around 150 scripts per bid to sync you and the server) may have a drastic affect on this.

    Hello subtank

Thankyou to all for your answers.

Support is already aware of the issues with the Auction page, and is working to try and improve it. There have been a few corrections/updates over the last week which did not sync as smoothly as intended - most of the problems have been corrected, save for the persistent lag. Hopefully it will be better after the weekend.

    For your broader concerns:
Yes, DarkOrbit is a Flash-based game, but it is far from basic. The amount of information which is required to be processed is much more than most other Flash-based games which operate. I think that there are different engines which would support a game of this type much better nowadays (especially with the amount of updates and enhancement over recent years), but a change of that type would require a significant effort.

(I am actually wondering if the proposal to introduce a 3D aspect to the game will also encompass a different software platform...certainly a major step if it does).

I am not familiar with the other games you have cited, but I presume that they are not Flash-based? If so, there is the answer for the better performance. All of the suggestions we make regarding caching, background programs, etc will improve your gameplay, but only to the capabilities of your PC set-up AND the efficiency of the game software.

In my opinion, I also think it is possible that DarkOrbit (amongst others) maintains a lower performance standard so that the game can still operate effectively on less impressive computer set-ups. The aim is to cater to as wide a demographic as possible, which means that the game needs to function on much older and outdated machines.
I realise none of this actually helps the situation, but hopefully it might help to explain it (assuming I made any sense at all - I am not very techy) ;)

    Do you have further questions?

I understand completely. But please dont make Dark Orbit 3D. Although it would certainly widen the gap between wallet warriors and skilled users, i would have to disagree with it as of now.

If the game is this laggy in its current state, a 3-dimensional state would be worst.

No further questions; the thread may now be closed.

He said if the game does use a new 3D platform then it will have a new software platform possibly removing lag :D

  13. well they changed the game it no longer says free to play anywhere so they may chnage it again and make it downloadable or use the same system as BSG

I hope they make it downloadable, it'll solve so many issues.

  15. Your computer must be bad, because i am probably on the worst laptop to play this game and i don't lag when i play your doing something wrong
