Forum Update

Since there isn't a feedback thread yet I thought I would just stick a thread here.

Good:
Looks nice. Better use of screen space.
Option to have spoilers has been added.


Bad:
Cross-language compatibility doesn't work on many levels.

If people want to go to a different language and post they have to changer server / language on the backpage then re-log into the forums that way. Just seems to be creating unnecessary effort for the users - why was the list of other forum languages taken away?

There were a lot of people who used multiple languages, especially other languages coming to the English forum for information that is not provided on their own forum. This change will just makes the forum less active than it was.
There is also a lot of dead links in older posts now that referred to threads in different languages, such as between the English revealed thread and the German one.


The forum account themselves have been split up between languages too. For example, if we use KrisKelvin (a developer) - he speaks both Russian and English.

If I click on his name it says he has posted 12 times:



When I click on the number 12 to view his posts it will only show 3. The 3 he has posted in the English forums.:



On the forum prior to today's update it would have shown his Russian posts as well, which are of course helpful because he might mention information about the game in one language but not in the other.
A example of this happening is when DarkwingDang gave out lots of information about 3D mode on German forums but on here he has only ever posted a OA about the old missions being taken away.




Summary:
Looks nice, but important elements that made the new forum good and easy to access for people who can type in more than one language have been removed.

 

pretty much what i thought but was to lazy to type.
did they change much anyways? the only changes i noticed are they added a calendar, add things on the side, background and removed the things you said. is that it?

 

Pretty much it seems, they mentioned there being thread prefixes too but when creating this thread I didn't see the options for them, unless if it's a tool only the mods get to use. Pretty underwhelming overall.

Edit: looks like a spoiler function for posts have been added though, which is quite nice.

Disappointed they made no amendments to the log in system either, I would prefer to be able to log in the forums externally.

1) Currently online members list
2) Huge page
3)Discussions, Messages, that stuff in Main page
4) Calendar
Edit: 5) Reply quote box includes "citation"

Just realized: After replying to a comment, the quotation box includes an arrow to go t the post that has been quoted. Another Like!

What Okapi mentioned about the cross-language, I personally use english and spanish forums and german time to time, now I have to go in the main page, change the language and reopen the forum to see that actual language. Why is it that they removed this option??

 

Maybe they think if they force people to change server in order to change forum it will make them play that server ...
They already force people to log into the game before letting them post on the forum so who knows what they thought removing this would achieve.
