    Introduction

Nearly every week we are bombared with all kind of flash sales, whether these include booty keys, logfiles, jump tickets or extra energy. The big question that may arise is: how can you tell if these sales are worth it? For now I will skip the comments about how DarkOrbit has gone downhill and whether or not you should spend any money at all. Instead we will look at the question:

If you do decide to spend real money, how can you tell if payment sales are worth it?

    The Maths

    Just a quick example:

Let's say there is a flash sale for logfiles:

    1000 logfiles for €25

Is this a good deal if we compare it to how much we could buy with uridium?

For €20 you could buy roughly 240.000 uridium during helix hour

If you would buy logfiles in the shop with a rebate package (adds another €2) you could buy:

    240.000 / (300 x 0,75) = 1066 logfiles

    So you can either buy:

    Payment: 1000 logfiles for €25
Payment (uridium and then in the shop): 1066 logfiles for €22

    Another example:

You can buy a battle pass for €10 or 200.000 uridium in the shop, which is better (if you have no uridium and are willing to spend real money)?

€10 gets you roughly 120.000 uridium, by far not enough to buy the battle pass in the shop. So in this case it is actually better to buy it via payment than it is to buy it in the shop.

    The Conclusion

While the above information may seem obvious to some, I strongly doubt it is as obvious to new players. They could be tricked into buying items via payment or with uridium, thinking they get a good deal while actually they are more or less being screwed over (just like happy and mega happy hour).

At the end of the day, there are a lot of deals which turn out to be a waste of money if you compare them to buying uridium and then buying the items in the shop.

So the next time you are wondering: should I buy 2500 extra energy for €20? Calculate the amount of energy you could buy if you would buy uridium, a rebate pack and use the weekend discount instead (4000 at 60 uridium per energy).

    EXTRA: Time is Money

I'm sure there are some people who may argue that: 'DarkOrbit gets worse with every update' and that 'you should never spend any money on this game'.

While everyone should decide for him or herself I would like to point out something:

    Time costs money too.

While you may save €10 by not buying uridium, if you spend one or two days grinding the same amount of uridium you are still spending money. If you had fun while doing so there is no problem whatsoever (I do think it can be to a certain extent). However if you have to spend 8 hours clicking boxes or shooting NPC's on your own, you may seriously wonder if that is worth it any more than it is to spend real money.
