I'm on USA2, and I constantly see people posting other people's whisps. It's happened to me once, but I see other people's whisps get posted every day. That is a form of public ridicule just like calling someone a name, or accusing them of something in global.

A whisp is meant to be a private statement isn't it? Isn't that the point, the privacy? Letting someone take a private statement and post it to global, allows that person to make fun of the other person and ridicule them, make them feel inferior, just like calling them some nasty name. Why do you allow that DO?

There's no way you can moderate something like it. When you whisper someone (and/or talk to someone "IRL") it is up to the person what they do with the information. If you don't want to be a source of ridicule, don't say anything incriminating

  3. Whispers in global and company chats are moderated, as well as what is said or whispered in group/private chats. That said, nothing that is whispered is private and should not be thought to be such. The point of whispers is to allow you to convey a private statement. However, this is a public game with public players. You should not assume what you whisper to a player will stay a secret anymore than what you say to you significant other. People talk, they take in information, whether in confidence or public, and repeat it as they see fit. In this game, you are dealing with attitudes, lots of attitudes. You can no control the behavior of the next player, even if in your same clan. You can associate it with controlling a child's mouth. You never know what may come out of it. Trust me on this one, there are a lot of child mouths, of all ages, in this game.

KJFJustice, As stated above, a whisper is only as private as the person receiving the whisper makes it. There are no rules regarding the re-posting of whispers in public chat, with the exception of chat that does not meet our guidelines.

Do you have any further questions on this topic or may we close?

    Best regards,

Thank you Raijin, but I think there should be a rule against it. Just like there is a rule against calling a person a name, there should be a rule against calling them out for a private statement and using it as a means to poke fun at them. That's bullying for sure. In a private statement, someone is more apt to be open and forthcoming about something, and thus, more vulnerable and apt to be hurt when someone posts their statement to others and uses it as a means to gain a laugh at that person's expense. It's a stab in the back. It's the simple reposting of something that was intended to be private that makes a person feel violated. DO can't want chat to be used for that. That is something that intimidates people and completely pushes them away from chat, and ultimately the game. It is just as painful and being called a bad name, and chat bans should happen when whisps are posted.

The whole point of a private statement is the privacy. That's when people open up to each other more than in global chat and make connections with each other. Isn't that what DO wants, for people to establish social connections with each other in a comfortable setting so they will have another good reason to come back the game over time and keep playing?

You know, if the receiver of a whisp doesn't like what was said, they can go to a CM, or Mod, or simply ignore the user. They shouldn't be able to say, "HAHA, look what *** whisped. Let's all laugh at him." How is that kind of bullying in chat not a violation of some chat rule?

Have you guys ever discussed this one at a meeting in your office? If not, why not?

  6. The best thing to do is the think about what you whisper. Whether it is a hi, or battle plans, if your feelings can't afford for it to be shared, don't whisper it. People whisper all kinds of things. I have gotten whispers from people back-stabbing other players, and for 1v1 request. I personally have not shared any of them, but I have seen what people have reposted, and I hate to say it , but they are hilarious.

The last thing we need is a rule. One must keep sensitive comments to oneself.

I have one question about whisperings : Why is NOT allowed to whisper to person in different language than english ? Let say i am spanish,i want to whisper to other spanish who don't speak english? At least, whispering is ONLY between 2 persons. Let the whispering be allowed to other languages!

Since when is this not allowed? o_O

Furthermore, these are the reasons why I feel like people whisper:

    1. To make someone feel bad after they lost a fight (about 99% of the community does this? :I)
    2. To say something to a specified person that does not serve any purpose for others

In general, I feel like whispering is a way to communicate, and to find my friends (on which chat they are). For example: if they are in an outfit chat, and I can't reach them, I can whisper them to invite me.

Don't see whispering as a way to secretly communicate with other players, use TeamSpeak or anything else for that. See whispering as a tool to make it easier to communicate. If you don't want that your whisper is being posted you shouldn't have whispered them in the first place!

  9. Whispers are allowed in another language if you are in a room other than Global or company chats. But you should both be in another room at that point to keep the possible problems down. Better yet, just group or make a private chat and switch languages 10 times if you want.

  10. Although I agree with you on this topic, once bitten twice shy, so they say.

I don't think it's right for someone to post a whisper but really there is little that can be done about it. I can only add, be more careful of what you type be it open chat, private room or a "whisper to save yourself or others any embarrassment.

Be safe and enjoy the game ;)
