I can't really say if it was a hack or not, though if you want to get away from an enemy in a battle map, try clicking on the far side of the port on your minimap and hitting the jump key (usually "J" unless you changed it) so that you are still moving while you jump. That way it keeps the enemy from getting a shot on you and you get safely to the other side.

Don't forget, SAB's have a great range then regular ammo. I will often use my SAB's if the person I am after gets close to the port to stop them from jumping out.

I have also experienced this issue, where I am out of my enemy's reach and not losing any ground to him, and as I pass by the port, I press 'J' to jump through it. I do not stop flying. There is no possible way my ship, flying away from him, has entered his range.
Yet, my enemy lands one or two laser hits, from an impossibly long distance, just before I warp through the gate which is now behind me.

I have concluded that this is not due to any hack; it is due to a flaw in the system. The moment you press 'J,' it is as though phantom of your ship has stopped flying and sat on the port in waiting to jump through. This version of your ship comes into your pursuer's range and allows him to fire on you, thereby cancelling the jump and then redirecting his fire to your real ship, which is still out of range.

If you want to do a running jump you need to use the minimap.

If you use the minimap to run past the portal then your ship carries on going, if you just click on your screen then it stops.

  11. This happend to me to yesterday i was getting hit 50k and no enemy was nearby ... i think this is lag tho .

  12. Okapi, read again what Archon said, this "phantom" ship that sits on the port for a second happens despite the fact that your ship is still flying in real time....I think the real problem is this "phantom lag" has always been around, but now it is longer than ever, and we are all adjusting....I have not had it happen across the map, but I have had it occur when an enemy is just out of range , but still close to me .

I read what he said and I gave the way to avoid this "phantom ship" stopping on port. You use the minimap to fly past the port as you jump. It is called a running jump and has been around for years.

I wasn't contesting what he was saying, I was posting the fix to get around it occurring when you jump port.

  14. Okapi, what I (at least ) and I believe others are saying is we DO use the mini-map....the ship "lags" when we jump now...or at least lags a lot more than it used to . So instead of jumping and escaping, we get shot...then by default the lag catches up and we are still flying, well past the gate at this point.

The whole point here is that even with a point clicked on the mini-map, pressing j over a gate even while moving , creates a momentary stall in movement, or more than it used to at the very least.

If you use the minimap the ship doesn't stop, if you use the general game screen then the ship stops. It was obvious to see it worked this way because of how the repair bot used to work.
If you used the minimap the repair bot would not activate until you had jumped into the other map because your ship was still moving, if you used the general game screen the repair bot animation would start as soon as your pressed "J" because your ship had stopped on the server.

That's how it's been since I started playing in 2008 so I gave the advice on what a running jump is.

I have never had the problem being described when I use the minimap to move past the portal.

This idea of more lag now specifically for creating this phantom ship when jumping portal is a bit silly since if you use the minimap your ship will still be going regardless of how much you lag ...

The only way your ship stops moving once you have clicked on the minimap is if the server just flat out crashes OR you close your game page window (at this point the ship will still be moving) and then open it again, then your ship will stop.

In short, lag or no lag, your ship will carry on moving if you have use the minimap to move.
