Item Loss Fix

The Story:

About a year and a half ago(shortly after PET release) I came back after a small break of a few months. When I logged on allof my LF3 lasers and B02 Shields were gone... I started a support ticket to try and find out what happened. After nearly a dozen support messages
back and forth the conversation ended with them basically saying that they had no way of proving what equipment I had and that their log records didn't go back more than 3 months, so, they had nothing on what may have happened. My last response was rather "colorful" to say the least...

I just recently returned from long break after, what was then, the worst online support experience I had ever encountered.(Seafight beat it out but that's another story) I finally came to the conclusion that the lasers and shields wouldn't be that big of a deal to just earn back... At least I still had 8 Iris, 36 Pilot Points, and a full Skylab(kinda surprised these facts didn't tip them off that I was legit...) I also noticed that all my big B02 shields were back, as well as, about 15 LF-3 lasers. Oh, well...So, I hopped on and fell right back into it like I used to. While playing now and then an LF-3 or two would show up in my equip bar on the right of the ship equipment area. This turned out to be a result of selling items I didn't need.

A couple nights ago I was about to log off and decided to have a look around the inventory beforehand... It wasn't long before I was systematically organizing all my LF-2s and other items and ammo into their own areas.(At least the OCD is mild)


The Fix:

I realized after a while that some items didn't want to move so I refreshed the page. This was when I first noticed that there were now LF-3s where the previous items were. I also noticed an extra 14k white ammo and I know I only had a few hundred at the time. I then began going through every single box in my inventory, giving every single one a chance to be empty with a page refresh. I chose each 4x6 area and swapped them each one area at a time.
I was able to recover every single lost LF-3 laser along with a bunch of ammo and 5 Apis Drone parts I didn't even know I had!!! When I sold stuff earlier they were opening spots that had items in them!


The Hypothesis:

I'm under the strong impression that what occurred was some sort of update changed item positions in the inventory. When this happened many items may have been "covered up" by other items. This will cause them to not show in the minimized inventory view when equipping your ship. You have to expand the inventory view and mess around in there for things to start showing up again. The main thing to keep in mind is this: Every inventory box gets a chance
to be empty for a page refresh. I just did them in sections to be sure not to miss any of them.

The company bases have been awfully quiet lately.... There seems to me to be much less players now then there ever were in my history and I fear this problem may have been an enormous contributer to the loss of player base. Without enough larger players to keep the new guys covered they end up quitting out of frustration. Whereas before it was usually good enough to find a clan of people you like and build yourself up spending time and money later.
We all know the long-term lovers of the game spend money as I have myself, so, losing guns and equipment that money was spent for would be seen as a massive betrayal on Bigpoint's part... and did cause me to stop playing... It is my hope that perhaps this can be realized and BP could send a mass e-mail out to all the old accounts letting people know what may have happened to them.

Whatever comes of it I at least wanted to get it out there.

Hmm thats very interesting, I know we occasionally have items disappear because they double stack on the ship, which is solved by deleting the configs and starting again. I wasn't aware that this was an issue within the actuall inventory as well.
Thanks for letting us know, I will pass it up and also use this to help other players.

 

I deleted configs before I realized that this was what was going on. Deleting configs alone won't fix it. Also, I've found 3 more of my lasers since posting... So, apparently, they can "double" and even "triple" stack somehow...

 

Its been passed on to support so hopefully they can fix it soon.
