Just wondering. Is there any (current) way that the game tells any new player NOT to kill his/her own company?

  2. All new players should check the Dark Orbit Bible.. (or at least skim through it)
    http://www.bigpoint.com/darkorbit/board/threads/darkorbit-bible.2055/

At the beginning stages players figure most things out by trial and error obviously. But to answer the OP's question, the below is a clear explanation of why one shouldn't kill his own company and posted for all to see.

In it the FAQ regarding "What is Honor For?" states:

    How do I lose Honor?

#1 - Killing your own company's ships (unless your Clan's are at war, or you were fired upon first).

    What else does Honor affect?

Negative Honor will lower your attack damage:
    Honor < -200 = 10% lower damage (90% basic damage)
    Honor < -500 = 20% lower damage (80% basic damage)
    Honor < -1,000 = 40% lower damage (60% basic damage)
    Honor < -2,000 = 70% lower damage (30% basic damage)
    Honor < -10,000 = 90% lower damage (10% basic damage)

    How do I lose Honor?

#1 - Killing your own company's ships (unless your Clan's are at war, or you were fired upon first).

    Penalties:
    1st Kill: -100 Honor
    2nd Kill: -200 Honor
    3rd Kill: -400 Honor
    4th Kill: -800 Honor
    5th Kill: -1,600 Honor

    and so on.....

#2 - Stealing Cargo boxes from other players.

    Penalties:
    1st Theft: -10 Honor
    2nd Theft: -20 Honor
    3rd Theft: -40 Honor
    4th Theft: -80 Honor
    5th Theft: -160 Honor

The penalty will double each time.

    Hope this helps...

It also gives a little warning in game every time you shoot a friendly telling you that you will lose honour I think.

Thank you all for assisting the player with their question.
SPSAT99, While there is not any in-game instruction about shooting company members, as stated above, a warning appears on the screen informing the player that negative honor points will be given if they shoot a company member. As players acclimate themselves to the game they will likely shoot a company member not knowing the potential negative impact. The warning displayed will hopefully deter such action. As veteran players, should you see that, you can try to whisper the player to inform them of the potential impacts of their decision, or point them to the Forums for information and advice.

Do you have any further questions on this topic or may we close?

    Best regards,
    .-Raijin-.

  5. Can we give them a time out when they pop a company player? New players often just want to shoot and don't pick upon the honor thing. Also, there should be something that tells them about going to forums to read the DO Bible. It took me 3 months to figure out there was a problem after stealing cargo boxes all the time and 6 months to find out about the bible.

Unfortunately the above mentioned FAQ and the on screen warning are the current methods of giving players that information.
If you would like to suggest something different, you can also propose a new idea in the Update and Idea Pool.

Sorry we could not offer you a better answer.
    Please have a nice day!

  7. I need to see the warning again to see what it says. I don't shoot company members too often; think I have like 3 company kills which is low I think for 2.5 years, lol, compared to others that have played even less on my server. Plus I think my last one was a year ago. I will post this idea where requested but think that in the start tutorial, it would be good if something was posted. Might or might not help, but its an idea.

Also, I am glad to see Astraea is back. I really like the responses you give.

Yeah, the warning system needs a bit of improvement.
    You can close, Astrea.
