I would ask the if you have checked the following items:

    1. Web Browser is not up to date
    2. Flash and java not up to date - or missing plug ins
    3. Cache needs to be empty
    4. Browser history may need to be cleared.
    5. Distance from server
    6. Computer graphic overload. (Graphics card slow or not enough Ram).
    7. Internet type - Wifi, DSL, cable broadband or phone connection.
    8. Programs Running in the Background
    9. Have you cleared the Flash player.... can be done here:

    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html
(This is an actual web page - not just an image)

hope that this information is helpful in resolving your issue.
    Have a nice day!

  3. Hey Astrea!

Checked all the above and still can't find any problems. Running IE9 on Win7 with all software up to date (including plugins), cache is empty and browsing history has been cleared. Since I am in the UK connecting to GB1 that shouldn't be an issue, and I am on a broadband WiFi connection provided by my uni. computer has 4GB of RAM and 256MB dedicated graphics. little else is running in the background and cleared the flash player.

    Still can't connect...

Try eating four strips of bacon, take two steps back, one step forward, eat two strips of bacon then push the Green Start Button....

Just kidding, I just had the same problem and ended up turning the pepper flash on as I am a chrome user. It was either just giving me a black screen or just time out as well, not sure if thats the same browser you use but give it a shoot...thnks!

Not trying to play at work behind a proxy are you? The spacemap runs over port 8080...

  6. Nope. As far as I am aware, the uni WiFi has no restrictions, so shouldn't be a problem....

Every single university will have a firewall that will have restrictions, its incredibly likely that the port is blocked.
My university had DO's port blocked by default, along with Steam etc. You can either talk to the technicians and ask them to unblock the ports or use a vpn to get around their firewall.

  8. pepper flash? I am good at computing but not that good. What am I looking for?? :)

  9. Steam on this computer works, so how can DO be blocked?

They don't use the same ports, I wasn't saying they were the same thing, just gave it as an additional example of what was also blocked for me.

  11. going to use the VPN route until I can get this moronic thing sorted out. Will keep you posted.. :)

Pepper Flash is a plug in used by chrome, if you are using chrome just type Chrome://Plugins and that should bring you to the plug in screens which shows you what you are currently enable/disabled. You will find pepper flash in the list with shock wave under the heading adobe flash. If pepper flash is enable try to disable and see if that makes a difference or vise versa...unless of course it is your ports blocking your connection then VPN route would be your ticket to play...

Thank you very much for your assistance with this player issue.

As offered here is the link to forums post on how to Disable Pepper flash:\
    https://board-en.darkorbit.com//threads/chrome-flash-player-fix-disable-pepper-flash.816/

    How to enable pepper flash.

I would also consider if you are using a laptop... try using an open source WiFi connection such as the ones used in restaurants and cafes. As many universities do block several browser based sites as to not receive the cookies and WiFi server lag. As to many people playing games to tend to lag a WiFi connection.

I hope this helps to resolve your issue.

Does the OP have any further questions on this topic?

    Have a lovely day!
