Release the 3D models prior to the 3D mode

I'm sure plenty of you are familiar with the work of LZ129Hidenburg - especially if you are one of the players who has been around for a long time.
I am also sure many of you know that there is a 3D mode coming out for DarkOrbit which will involve 3D models for a lot of DarkOrbit's assets.

The quality of the 3D models appears to be pretty high, as seen by this image:


If the 3D models were released to the community now instead of someone having to go and rip them out of the game when the actually 3D mode arrives then it would allow people of the community to make their own mini-movies for DarkOrbit as LZ129Hidenburg did, however at a much greater quality.
I know myself and a friend, jD, already have a great interest in getting a hold of these 3D models as soon as we can, I'm sure other people are hoping to do the same. It would take very little work on the developers part to make them easily available to the community.
The result would be essentially free advertisement in the form of cinematic short movies.

I'd just like to emphasize that all the work would be done in a completely free and non-commercial way. We are currently looking for some decent 3D techies (apart from Okapi and I) but the work would be done completely free. The movie would be a sort of gift from the community to the community!

The idea would be to grab a copy of as many of the models as possible and drop them into a story that was based around the DarkOrbit story arc. Okapi and I threw around some ideas that were based around the Pirates story arc but we would be open for ideas! Another idea was to tell the story of how the factions were formed and what caused "Earth" to split into Venus, Mars and Earth. Again, open to ideas.

The movie wouldn't be strictly DarkOrbit. It would be a short film telling one of the back stories to the game, rather than being some sort of Machinima style animation.

We'll probably start a thread somewhere else (not here) for more discussion on the actual movie elements, this thread is just here to get in contact with the developers.

Hmm, I did not know that they were bringing the 3D mode back. By 3D, is it like the one with the backpage?

OT: Glad to know that there are still people that remember Hidenburg here

 

It is nothing to do with the backpage that was tested on USA West years ago, it will be a full 3D DarkOrbit gamepage. We just want the 3D models early for cinematic made with Blender etc since the models already appear to exist.

Okapi...I have always wandered exactly how you get all these images.I can look through the scripts and can copy the images that are displayed on the website.

Are you accessing the DO server and copying these or is an admin giving you these images?

 

Neither in this case, I'm not too sure if I would be allowed to say how on the forums, I know in the past if I have said how it's been removed upon request for people higher up so don't want to cause a waste of time for someone to remove it.

You can always add me on skype if you want and I can explain there. I've given out my skype a few times to people who commented on my profile so you can find it there, again avoiding posting it in a thread encase a mod has to remove it. My skype is also in my status if you just click my name.
