  1. DarkOrbit Resultion FAQ
There are multiple things that is FAQ will address. Some of them being
    1. Map size
    2. Benefit’s/Cons of player on large resolutions
    3. “Auto Locking”
    4. Altering Resolution
Before we address all of those dark orbit based question with have to first know what resolution actually is. Resolution is written as (XXX, YYY). For example one of the most common resolution would be 1920, 1080.
    · 1920 would be the amount of pixels you’re graphics card is rendering in the X axis (Across from left to right)
    · 1080 would be the amount of pixels you’re graphics card is rendering in the Y axis (Across from top to bottom)
o The reason I specify that it is the amount of pixels your graphics card is rendering is because you pixel rendering amount could be different from your monitor pixel count. We’ll get into it later.
Now that you know the basic’s we can get into the map size.
Benefits and Cons of playing on large resolution
    · Benefits
o A larger map size meaning you are able to see further than most people.
    § Lock people further
    § See N.P.C further
§ Lay mines better (when running)
    § See boxes/resources further*
    · Cons
o Harder to lock people and other items
§ The ships appear to be smaller so it’s harder to lock them
§ Harder to lock boxes sense they are smaller (big role player in domination)
    § Accusations for cheating
    o Torcher on weaker computers
§ This requires a larger amount power behind processor/graphics card
§ Eats away battery faster (on laptops)
o Take time to get used to after switching
    Auto Locking
The last section brings us directly to auto locking. Auto locking as of 2015 has mostly left the game. Most (and I say most because new one may or may not have popper or may pop up in the future) auto locking programs have been patching and/or give a ban if used. Auto locking in general is almost dead so many people who screen auto lock now are going against a simply well skilled player. The reason I bring this up because this is a huge source of error when people say something like, “He locked me of my screen! He’s unfair!” This could very well be the reason you got locked off your screen. He is running at a higher resolution than you.
See image below to see how it works.

Different resolution fading in. Starting a double the size of 1080p (2k), second being 1080p, and lastly 720p. You can see the large locking area different from the largest resolution to the smallest.
    Altering Resolution
You can also you’re resolution by going into your desktop and right clicking on it. Going to screen resolution and using the drop down/slider to change it. There are several ways to change you’re resolution by other means some of which being Nvidia Control Center for people with Nvidia cards. There are different programs and methods (not going to post because it is altering code in your computer to benefit your game) to add larger resolution than you monitor allows. This is called DCR. This is why I specified how many pixels you graphics card is rendering earlier in the post. When you’re monitor can only support 1080p you can use some option in the nvidia section (not getting into steps here) of how you can set it up to allow you to use a large screen such as 2k or even 4k on a 1080p monitor. It renders the amount of pixels that you set but later scales it down to fit you’re monitor. If you are going to use the method it is going to be annoying figuring out the right scaling and smoothing to avoid blurry/overly sharp pixels.

    Disclaimer*
The way boxes are shown on your screen is not generally affected by resolution. If you run a 2k screen they would still appear (maybe very slightly further) than they would on a 1080p screen. This was done to avoid different unfair programs from abusing this. However, it does help boxing as if you did miss a box they disappear further than they would if you were on a 1080p screen. It does generally help.
    -------------------------SIDE NOTES------------------------
There have been some posts about how Darkorbit “resolution” got worse throughout it’s advancement. That’s not true. It is most of the time that you have left the game and came back with a different resolution or monitor. The game is intended to be run on a 1080p screen. If you go any higher you will lose some detail from the game, the background will seem to be scaled down and other changes. It makes the game look less real in a way and less detailed. On the other hang if you go from a higher end monitor to a cheaper on you will notice with resolution lose you will start to see a bit more detail, but with the detail also comes a smaller vision range and you will also start noticing some graphic bugs or things that weren’t 100% perfected in the game.
