  1. I have played Darkorbit since 2008 with a lot of pauses, and picked up the game again starting from August this year. Although the general "This game is dead" attitude continues to persist, I did notice some positive change this time. I play on Global Europe 1 and the server looks more active (in comparison to spring 2019). Additionally, the VoT event was relatively successful and fun in my opinion. But the thing that touched me the most was a very minor thing, which gave me major flashbacks to the golden age of Darkorbit....

I was doing some daily quests in 1-4 (I'm MMO) yesterday and all of a sudden a pack of 5 decent VRU ships flooded our map (they were not UFE, but they were dealing at least 50k damage each). After getting hit by the first one in their group, I started my retreat towards the upper left 1-2 portal. As I was retreating, I realized that the pack was not following me, so I returned and was happy to see that the other MMO players, who were actually real players and not bots, were resisting back. I immediately joined them and it become a large battle. We helped each other and took the enemy one by one. Although couple of us died in the battle (not sure exactly how many), we managed to clear the map of the invasion and continued on our quests.

I know it is not a big deal, but that Company battle, that us vs them feeling, that struggle to protect our territory was what made Darkorbit a great game for me and I was happy to see that it still continues, although to a significantly lesser extent.

Darkorbit is not a bad game, folks. It has taken some wrong turns but it still is an enjoyable game. I believe that if the developers can figure out the Multi Company Clan problem, which is the main reason why we don't see the above mentioned company battles that often (particularly on global servers), then we can see a rise in popularity of this game again.

The game might look dead, but remember, there are thousand of players who miss the good old Darkorbit so much, and would be willing to give it another shot if they see a little development!

I hope Darkorbit will see its days of glory return, soon.

  2. Old time player here. I can't say I've had the same experience with pvp(not that I can with my limited implements anyway), but I've been enjoying the game more the past few days than I did before I left. It was taking a turn for the worst for a long time but I think that's changed now. There's some new life being poured into the game, little by little.

  3. old time player, here 2, the games full of cheats and boters, and truthfully it's getting worse by the day, I was ranked 69 before the boters took the game over, im now ranked 822, theres NO way you can compete with the cheats. the game has now changed into 1 big moneypit,
if you don't cheat, spend £100's its pointless.

  4. I suppose there is that perspective too if you're at the point in the game where you care about rankings. It's still fun for me because I'm still building my ship.
