[SC] How to get started?

My name is happydude and i recently got back into Darkorbit.
I use to play this game alot a few years ago but stopped playing,Recently i made a fresh new account and started over.I wanted to ask a few questions to help me get started.

The first thing i want to know is can i play dark orbit competently free to play?.Can i get full elite or have any fun/impact if i'm free to play.Will it require alot of grinding and time or do you really need to pay to get the full experience?

Im a bit of a noob and would like any guides or tips to help me with them game.I've watched a few videos and alot of them seem to be saying to get the leonov ship and using your skylab.

I also wanted to know what is the best ship i should be using early on.I bid in the auction for a Vengeance and Goliath and won both of them,and have been using the Vengeance for its speed since most Npc's die in a few shots.
Please help in any way you can and any feed back in appreciated.

Alright well you can have great fun in darkorbit a full elite. That's where I am at (a bit more than that). I am currently 31 Pilot Points and 9 LF-4 with 3-4 months of gameplay and I don't buy uri. It will, like it always has, requires a lot of grinding. As for the money aspect it does require money to be fully enjoyable, BUT it is not a huge load. All you require to have to enjoy the game to its fullest really is premium, which is what I usually buy, I tend to buy rebate. If you do not have to money ($6.50) to spend on premium a month plenty of clans that are good and enjoy you as a member will be willing to buy you it. I buy my friends premium who can't afford it even if they aren't in the clan and help out my clannies a bunch also!

Obviously as stated above try to get premium. It has gotten easier to get around without it. Focus on getting 31 LF-3 and 16 Bo2. 31 LF-3 config for killing NPC the fastest the 16 for you drones when running. After that focus on pilot points and gates. Participate in SpaceBall (spaceball is an awesome event of open gates fast) and Crazy Cubes (crazy cubes you need premium and kama 3 to fully enjoy but there are usually some people that allow you to join their group and just go shoot bk's and share). After you have 31 LF-3 and 16 Bo2 I suggest obtaining pet. If you have or do not have premium pet is still a great option to have. If your boxing you don't need premium to help it box with you, or just fly around shooting NPC and have it collect boxes, its a nice boost. You can also have it do a nice deal of additional damage by unlocking laser slots (I have 9 and it hits around 1200 damage). That being said after getting your pet to level 8 IF you are NOT premium do no try to level it anymore. You will not gain anything much other than a laser slot? however it will increase the repair cost a bunch. After you have pet (essensials are kami 3 (only really useful if you have premium), auto looter 3 for boxing (if your into that kinda thing) and resource collecter if you into collecting pally in 5-3 for gate spins) and unlocking lasers, DO NOT UNLOCK SHIELDS, ITS NOT WORTH IT) go for you're pilot bio. After you have 24 pilot bio it is your choice to go for more. I did and I decided to get rocket fission and work on evasive. After around 29-35 I suggest you stop and change your focus towards gate and lf-4. Upgrading is not worth it in my opinion until you are later up as it costs 107k to upgrade and 107k is basically an lf-4 or 2 on lf-4 day. That should set keep you busy on a while, did for me.

I suggest leonov and staying in lowers until you have 16 bo2, 8 iris and at least 25 lf-3. After that switch in a goli and go into uppers and do BK. If you are not on a extremely active server this won't take to long.

I will say this not to get your hopes down but playing without any money at all will make your journey to getting UFE very very long but on the other hand, it is much easier to get to FE status with the past updates and added stuff to auction, try not to buy all of your shield gens as you can get them from booty boxes and you can get booty boxes from doing gates. When you do gates try to stick with ONLY Zetas and Kappas as these give you a chance at getting havocs and hercules for your drones, also these 2 gates give you booty keys and log disks, just from doing zeta gates about 30 times you can get about 13 pilot points worth towards your Pilot Bio and possibly all of your havocs. ALSO you have a chance of recieving ANY golith design from booty boxes that are purchasable in shop....ANOTHER thing to add: when you are trying to build your apis and Zues drones(9th and 10th) drones ONLY pick up GOLDEN booty boxes as zues pieces can only come from these BUT so can APIS drone pieces, IN other words ONLY use booty keys on Golden booty box days! TRUST ME it will benefit you in the long run A LOT!! When ever you reach the point where you think you want to start working on upgrading any drones, shield gens, or LF4 lasers you have I HIGHLY recommend you you save large amounts of uridium (X00,000-X,000,000) and then wait until Upgrade hour which is hard to catch but I have been watching closely and usually happens on fridays around 5 pm-8pm somewhere in there, in a pattern of every 2 weeks. The upgrade hour reduces upgrade costs by 25% BUT THAT'S NOT ALL, If you can afford it, wip out your wallet and buy a 1 week long rebate for about $2.50? which is another 25% reduced uri costs on in game purchases GREATLY reducing that initial cost of upgrades, SO when that upgrade hour comes along you better be rushing to upgrade everything you want to upgrade with that big ol chunk of uri you saved up within that upgrade hour...stretched about 2.5 million uridium to maybe 3.5-4 million doing this, just waiting for upgrade hours. ALSO f you want to buy ANY ITEMS to the PET or Drone formations I suggest you be incredibly patient and wait for discount events.

Now if you do have a little bit of money and plenty of time to play this I HIGHLY/STRONGLY/ABSOLUTELY/POSITIVELY recommend you invest in creating the correct/efficeint "Box Collecting Pilot Bio Set Up" along with setting your level 9 PET up with a good Boxing setup as well. this can help you get alot of uridimiu very fast for very cheap IF you are willing to stare at your monitor for for a couple hours a day clicking white glowing boxes and avoiding enemies. if you dont know about the boxing setups, you can ask around or do a littl ebit of research and reading through material.
OH and keep and eye out for daily events that happen through out the week by reading the dark orbit home page when you log in, you can know when the next spaceball, invasion, or crazy cubikon event will be, these are all good events for getting credits and uridium.

here is my suggestion, stop before you get started in the game again, if you get popped multiple times you are going to lose all your ep and honor you gained anyway thanks to DO's "pushing" rules, i played for 6 years and due to some players that targeted my account I lost over 8 bil EP in 1 fail swoop. DO is not playable for the REAL players only the cheats....

 

that was not necessary Aries, we all have reason why we want/like to play the game. it may be a bit difficult for new/returning players but there are pilots that are willing to help out there! talk in chat and ask for help, there are a few "good ones" left that like to group hunt with others and farm credits. There are clans out there that like returning space pilots because they are somewhat familiar with the game and can help. It just takes time to get to where you want to be, but as with anything it will be worth once you get. I have been playing for a few years and others ask why i still play, well it's because of the good friends and users who made it a fun and helpful time when i was beginning. Now i help out once in a few when there are space pilots shooting bk's or other NPC's. yes i know i can popp them, but sometimes i think it's worth uncloaking and helping them with the NPC's rather than popping them and moving on. I want there to be a lot of other space pilots like yourself HappyDude12, if ya need help please ask in chat or sometiems there may be another user who is doing the same thing as you, but is unsure to "outfit up". I suggest getting leonov. Vengeance is usually pretty cheat on all servers so it shouldn't be a problem. The double damage from the rockets (suggest using 2026) is great in leonov so you should kill things in lowers a lot faster. (Also from weapons and shields on ship)

I would suggest using both uri and credits on lf-3 and bo2. They are really you're priority so that you advance the fastest. My suggestion would be slap on 2026 on your soon to be leonov. Go into x-3 and shoot mordon, boss modon, sibs, boss sibs, and lord's. You should bake at least 5k an hour if you focus on it.

Side note, I forgot after you get your goli and your lf-3 and bo2, i suggest saving for Aegis right after that. It's a huge help but they are pretty expensive in auction.

Yes it is. I am playing legit and you should just leave with those comment. It's a hard game and I like the aspect. Pushing rules only actually ban people who push really. IF you ask them nicely they should do an IP test and determine that there was no pushing in place. If you got banned for pushing you probably pushed. If you have the same person after you switch targets or just go to a different map. You have 32 choices of what maps to go to and more if you add gates. Anyway a push ban is not the end of it, you get you account back in a month, EP doesn't really matter how good you are anyway.

 

First off I did not push, I was defending my clans CBS, so it is not a choice to just go to another map, second off, there are chaos players that like to start crap no matter what map you go to, and EP and Honor is a big deal when you lose 8 bil EP in 1 shot because you are getting shot down too many times by the cheats. It is unfair to legit players no matter who you are. and after 3 times of being pushed you lose your account btw. so all the work you put into the account goes bye bye because DO does NOT care about legit players....

 

You need to go vent your frustrations on a cube or something. As long as you air it in here, you are just going to get yourself more upset.

To the OP, crunch credits and bid on all the stuff. Not sure what server you are on but with the exception of one I play on, it can be done fairly quick. You will want to watch how the auction goes, so you know when is the best time to bid successfully.

 

Darkorbit checks IP's for pushing. If IP is the same you get banned. It's rare to get banned for pushing with different IP. As for defending CBS if you are playing that route tell someone else to start shooting that guy and focus on someone else.

 

YOU REALLY DON'T READ VERY WELL or know how pushing works according to the new DO, if YOU get shot down too many times you are considered by DO to be pushing...it is not you shooting the same guy or from the same IP which DO does not check (their pushing script is a joke just like the bot script they run) I was sent a mail from support saying they "investigated" and I was banned for getting shot down too many times does not sound like a script being run to me but a chaos player reporting so they can get my account banned and they can go on playing with their other accounts doing it to other players. How the heck are you supposed to play the game when you lose your ep and honor for doing the things how the game was intended to be played. there is no argument to support either even with proof, I sent in the fact that I was defending the cbs with times of being shot down and when the CBS was being attacked. BUT DO DOES NOT CARE ABOUT PLAYERS ONLY $$$. keep playing and dropping them cash and when you lose your ep and honor because some chaos player decides you dont need to be in their space then dont cry on here about it, you have been warned it will happen.

I have bought and sold two leos in my time if your vengi hits less than a leo buy another leo on the other-hand if vengi hits harder keep it
and make sure to get your skylab up and running
pick up every free box and hunt
it a slow game so take it easy you ér not going to hit anybody over 7-8k for a while

I would only add that finding the right clan can help you go along way. As long as you are loyal they will provide you with the credits you need for auction bids to get to FE status. After that use you uri to build gates. Its long and time consuming but can be done.

 

Not all clans give credits, or have a tax but they will help you to complete missions and such and that will provide you with credits needed.

 

Hi guys.First of i want to say thank you for all the help you guys have given.It has been a huge help!

I'm just doing an update and maybe a question or 2 if anyone is interested.
It's been roughly a month since i ask how to get started and here is where i'm at.
I also want to mention i haven't gotten premium but i'm am thinking of getting it

My current gear:
Goliath with 8 iris drones.All level 6 but 2.
No pet.
I have 19 lf3's (All on drones and 3 on ship).
I have 15 bo2's and 15 G3N 7900 speed gens.
All extras and hellstorm rocket launcher 2.
All basic designs such as 5% dmg and such.

Also i am currently level 14 with 60M XP and 120,000 Honor.

When i started playing the game i convince my friend to join me and play.
He has recently got a high paying job and has spent a good bit on the game,All tho most of that being
blue booty boxes and such.I mostly play with him but i sometimes come on and do a quest or kill some bks.
Since me and him play so often i will tell you his gear also.

Friend's current gear:
Citadel with 6 iris and 2 flax all random levels.
Level 6 pet with auto looter and all lasers he can unlock.
Full lf3's on current drones and ship.(few left over for when he switchs to iris from flax)
2 lf4's from booty.
All extras and 2 hellstorm rockets launcher 2's.
Dimisher design but no design for current Citadel.
He allso has around 100,000 x2 ammo and seems to use it.

We have been doing alot of quests recenty such as daily and event ones.We seem to be doing well and we even
join and as of recently left a clan.We may join another clan but we seem to be enjoying just us.

Also wish to say my current skylab.
11 Solar module
10 Storage module
8 Xeno module
10 Prometium collector
10 Endurium collector
10 Terbium collector
10 Prometid refinery
9 Duranium refinery
9 Promerium refinery
4 Seprom refinery

Now that you know my current situation i want to ask a few questions.

First of what should we do?
Currently we just quest and kill bks so should we keep with that.Is there anything special we can do using my friends tankyness?
I don't think we can fight any cubes and if we could it would cost us from using good ammo.

And secondly where should i be heading from here?
I've heard aegis is a good ship to head for how ever i don't know if it would be any use right now.Since it does cost quite alot.
If i get premium should i go for a pet next so i can box? And if i don't get premium should i still get a pet or not?
What should i bid on and buy with my uri?

Right now im buying with Uri and bidding in auction for Lf3's untill i have full.But i want to know where to head from there.
That about raps up what i've been doing on darkorbit and it has been alot of fun.

I just want to say im sorry for having such a long long post but if you have read it all then thank you so much.

Hi mate, you've done fantastically to get where your at now.

First things i have to say mate is get your friend out of his Citadel, he's a sitting duck! I would certainly look at getting an aegis each for shooting NPC's and carrying on with the quests you currently are doing.

If you are both willing to spend a little bit of money i would recommend a box doubler, rebate and prem. Simply getting a cloak and boxing for an hour or two will get you a fair bit of urid and gate spins which you can use to build galaxy gates. If you get rebate and prem, i would recommend a PET, do a few quests with it out and get it to the required level which is 8 or 9 to get Level 3 gear (Dont buy level 1 or 2 gear). If you are prem, look at Kamikazi gear (Saves loads of time when doing NPC) and auto looter which is awesome for boxing alongside some Radars for your PET so it can collect more.

With this current event you can earn yourself a good 400 spins in 3 hours which is huge for new players like yourself.

Your doing great, what green green grass said is good advice the aegis is a great ship if esp. if both of u are playing together u could probably take down a cube with 1x if your bio is up for it, but it is expensive and you need to get another hanger.Or you could get a goli at action sometimes on ga3 u can pick one up for 10k credits the second hanger though will cost u 50k uri.

Keep investing in your skylab until it takes a week to upgrade sepron then pick a week that's good for u.

Good luck DO is a game where a lot of the fun is building up your ship while the odds of doing so are long.
