[SC] Is Spartan better than Hercules?

Curently Spartans are bugged, the 10% damage and 10% shield bonus acts like a booster. It was confirmed by Op32 and they are working on a fix.

Apperently 10% damage and 10% shield is supposed to give bonus only on lasers/shields equipped in drones.

The fact is a set of Spartan is 100% better than Havoc, no question asked.

But its very questionable if Spartan is better than Hercules.

A set of Spartan gives 10% damage (to lasers equipped in drones), 10% shield (to shields equipped in drones) and 15% hp.

A set of Hercules gives 15% shield (to shields equipped in drones), +20% hp.


So now basically you are trading off 5% shield and 5% hp for a 10% damage if you switch from Hercules to Spartan.


So the question is, is the 10% damage from lasers in drones better than 5% shield (from shields in drones) + 5% hp?


I don't think so. Why?

-> As a Hercules user i use more shields than lasers in drones. so damage in drones is less valuable than shield in drones.
-> 5% bonus shield (if you use Hercules as opposed to Spartan) will get bonus from Ship Designs that give 10% Shield (Sentinel, Spectrum, Solace...). You start fight with Ring formation, that means even more shield.
-> Bonus 5% hp if you use Hercules as opposed to Spartan.


Bottom line: Spartan is made out of Havoc and Hercules. It is supposed to be superior than both of them. At current state i would rather use Hercules than Spartan in serious fights.

The 10% shield bonus from Spartan set should act as a booster ( not affect only shields in drones) if Spartan is going to replace Hercules. But that is my opinion.

 

Spartans are much better that hercs imo.

See it this way:

We know that Havocs are worse than Hercs(pvp wise), but if you add an extra 10%shield+15%hp to ur havocs.....

Then you have some thing that its almost like Hercs, while still having all the effects Havocs have.

 

To be honest but I think havocs and hercules are just as good as the Spartan drones, only if the spartan drones only boost drone equipment.

Lets say you have 18 lasers and 2 shields on your drones. With havocs, the lasers benefit from increased damage and that only. With Spartans however, you get a 10% damage boost to all 18 lasers just like the havocs, but ONLY a 10% shield boost on only TWO shields you have on your drones(in addition to 10% hp).

Now lets say this time instead you have 18 shields and 2 lasers, with hercules you get an increased shield power by like 10% on your shields, and I think 20% HP with all 10 hercules. However, with spartans you get both of those benefits but the only difference is that the two lasers are increased by 10%.

Basically the only benefits >WITH CERTAIN CONFIGS< you will receive from using these Spartan drones is the HP, so you don't have to constantly rely on your second hercules config for extra HP.

To me, that's honestly not worth the effort if you aren't a wallet warrior.

Basically what these spartan drones do is put you in a situation where if you don't have at least half lasers or half shields on your drones, the spartans are rendered obsolete because you only get a miniscule benefit on like 2 lasers you might have on a tank running side.

Basically what I'm saying is that it is very inefficient to use Spartan drones on a full tank or full battle side(or any configuration close to this)because the only thing you get is that specific bonus for that configuration setup, like a 10% increase to 18 shields. So if you're going full battle side and a tanky speedy side, you might as well stick with the havocs and hercules.

I haven't fully read through the Spartan drones and it's specifics, but from the impression I'm getting so far, the only people that should be able to even obtain these things are Top 10 users simply because they can afford to put down the equipment and Schizims to build them.

 

This might be right, but people that does pvp, and know their stuff, they never go full shields on their fast, they get atleast 6 lasers on fast(some people put a lot more), while on their heavy they have like 4-8 shield on drones.

I can see why u think hercs might be better than spartans, and you are right i guess, but only if they are running full shields on their fast(or almost full shields)

 

Ultimately, Spartans will make people who are really good at cycling through their Drone Formations really tough to beat in PVP.
