Should regional servers be merged? i.e. Usa 1,2,3

  1. can i talk about other games? on a fb game called edgeworld, where you have ur base and your defenses etc, they merge it every time a server is near dead, whats the difficult thing? just copy paste our data on the new servers! just copy paste the data bases, is it hard to create a new user with all the equipment and then change that new thing name to my nick?

  2. I like that idea about AI ships.

  3. the issue with the servers being dead is NOT that noobs are killed by UFE.. we all got popped by stronger players, even on the old client. The problem is that noobs start to realize just how expensive it would be to get UFE (or how much time it would take doing it for free) and give up.

    DO created this problem themselves.

  4. They need to cut the east 2 &3 servers and put the accounts on east 1... same for GA 2,3,4,5,

Honestly, merging servers would be great fun for a couple of weeks.
Then everyone would discover that its almost impossible for them to make uridium and now they have to buy it all if they want uridium for boosters and ammo.

Good luck ever getting solo cubes. Have fun trying to box with so many people hunting. Maybe you will get 20 minutes peace in 5-3 to build up extra energy.
Then people would start complaining that the game has become more expensive because of the merges ... which would mean people would stop playing because they can't make their own uridium anymore, they have to buy it all.

Merging servers is the very, very short term solution to the activity problem. It would be far better if a new battlemap system was created in-which 4 or 5 servers feed into and events like a new version of spaceball were held regularly in there to attract activity.
This server-feeding system would allow darkorbit to add / remove server from certain systems at will in order to increase activity in the systems that need it. It also means that there is zero issues with rank as everyone still plays their regular server but can fight people from other servers whenever they want.

That way we could all experience the mass PvP when we wanted, while having the ability to go back to our server and do solo cubes or collect palla in relative peace, compared to if there was 30 people trying to do cubes, or 20 people constantly hunting in 5-3.

Be careful what you wish for x)

I have to say that this post is the very, very, very reality of the situation.

    I agree, 101% with you @Okapi32.

  7. The server has twenty players at a time maxing at 50.

It is fun actually having some competition.

Best Joke I've seen in days. hehe

  9. If the game is dying on certain servers or 2 large questionable clans took the server over because low player numbers, and DO is not going to merge these servers....

PLEASE make our accounts transferable. I sent 1 year and spent alot of cash building a ship on East 3. That server is dead. 2 clans take over all events and we do not have enough players to balance the pvp. Once the event is over everyone logs out and then the maps are empty. So my choices are fight against 20 to 1 odds, fight for 4 cubes that take 5 min to refresh, or quit.

Lets make the accounts have the ability to move to various servers 1 time every month. Let these very expensive accounts go to a more balanced server. I would make the ships that want to switch meet certain requirements before being allowed to move.

    1. I think lvl 22 or higher should be the first requirement. This will reduce the ships leaving and give lower lvl players something to work towards.

    2. Any ship wanting to move should not have any ban stages on it. No reason to let cheaters move.

    3. I think a 25% ep and honor deduction would limit the players switching unless they really want to.

Starting over on a new sever should not be an option. Locking you equipment to your global ID in lieu of the Users ID should not be hard. Then switching servers would be easy. As for the ep and Honor I think moving a server should hurt a little but not half. 25% is a nice number and in most cases will not be hard to get back.

For accounts that have multiple servers on it have the players choose the serve he or she wishes to use as a starting point. Then move the equipment from the other account to the main 1. or they can have an option to keep all the account the same and create a new login for each server being played.

  10. Hindsight is 20/20, it would be nice if i would have known East3 would end up being such a stinker.

I still play and have fun, it could be better though. Like others, I have a strong account here and zero desire to start over in another server.

  11. Man I really thought I would be able to dump a bunch of fun reality in this thread, then you beat me to it owning :(o_O Anyways this already happened on another game bigpoint owns which some of you play and more of you have probably heard of called BSGO, or battle star galactica online. Now in terms of gameplay and how you play its all pretty different but the concept is the same. Lots of noobs, lots of high level players, lots of $ barriers.

The difference is the merge actually happened. Long story short everyone was like "oooooohmygawd this is great much fun such friends very PvP" then a few weeks in high levels began planning together and you know what happened then? Controlled organized gank squads full of carriers that chewed up fleets from any direction, stealths that killed any ship in 10 seconds by the dozen, and a whole bunch of faction inequality to boot.

Long term short the merge actually caused more players to leave. You can argue all you want about dead servers sucking but you know what sucks more? Servers pushed to the limit. You think bots or wallet warriors or auto lockers are bad on your wee dying server? Heeeeheee well just you wait if a merge does happen.

  12. Your all gonna poof o_O

  13. That scenario is basically whats happening now just on a smaller scale. I'd rather see populated maps.

  14. This idea is genius !!!!

Me not being anything near an UFE i can say that i dont mind being popped by one, especially with all the rep creds you get now from pumpkins/spaceball/energies, what is causing a lot of people to leave are UFEs getting bored by just doing that, currently most of the UFEs in my server are spread out between 3 clans, which are all multi-company, meaning they war every clan possible, which leaves me unable to do anything, because if its not an enemy popping me its a red tag doing the killin, and if the rare chance occours that your clan is not warred, the first time they see you type in the chat they copy your clan name and war you.

  16. The MCC issue is something we have been complaining about for a long time and seems to be one of the only issues they have never talked about changing.

Even if they do get rid of the MCC those particular corrupt players will still keep to that corrupt "Clique" prime example is TS/Vent etc, trying to rid the game of scumbags is taking them forever! That is why players leave because of that corrupt clique!

  18. This MCC is bogus - back then when I played BSG you couldn't target/fire on your Division - no matter what. Loved the ESCape feature thou

  19. In my opinion i think the cost of running a server is next to none so its not cost effective for DO to work on merging servers so i think a server can go down to 10 ppl and if one spend $50 on a mega that pays for the up keep of that server for a month or so i am down to spending $12.99 on a mega now, me by myself is already funding a server for a month or maybe even a year
The real question is what will happen to my ship if the server close?

That simply is not true. Merging servers (regardless it would be very very difficult) is a great idea of solving nowdays biggest problem of DO.

The massive loss of players was mainly one-time process. Simplify: This loss was caused by huge wave of bot users (after bio was introduced) and by very late reaction on them by BP. So, many players left, since they were disgusted; many players left, since they were banned.

This problem would be solved by one-time solution - merging servers. The game would became alive, as it was before. All stuff about ppl annoyed by: "Omg, I cant solo cubes all the day" or "Omg, I cant afk pld/PvP maps all the day" is nonsense. In your opinion, empty servers are better? Be reasonable - this is not Farmerama, this is/was shooting action game. Yes, the game is little overpriced, but its not justification for sayig: "Empty servers are good for farming - so its ok" If developers will not do so price-brutal one-time additions (as bio was) and server merge would take place, then the time will fix the rest. You can disagree with that, you can argue that, but thats all you can do with that :)

I still agree with this idea. This would be much better, than nothing and I dont know, if server merge isnt so technically difficult, that it simply never happens. In this case, this would be very nice. But remember - server merge is much better solution. Your solution (even it is good) will make DO closer to "regular" MMOs with "normal maps" and "PvP arenas", that mean DO will loose some of its previous originality.
