[SC] My Ship & Set-up

Hello all, it's been a while since I've been active and upon my return I've decided to take full advantage of the sales on purchasing ships. Additionally, I've decided to go for the Citadel Specialist package, which grants me the Elite and Veteran models, however...

As a somewhat novice to the newer features on the game, I'm stuck as to how I should go about my set-up, build and configurations. As for my game play, I'm more inclined to PvE than anything else and I often play alongside my brother who flies an Aegies, so the goal is to essentially tank. If anyone can recommend a decent build for my Citadel, or advice on how I should approach using a Citadel, that would be much appreciated!

 

I have never played a Citadel, so sorry that I can not advise you about that.

But, since you said your brother is on Aegis, I don't think you will need Citadel at all. Two Aegis in group are really powerful, so you might consider going for Aegis too Goliath is not bad too.

Just personal opinion, if you still feel like going for Citadel, make sure you buy the Ring formation. Can't advise you for equipment build, sorry.

 

2 years ago citadel were the funniest ship in entire game. It was extremely satisfying to have a speed boost, which doubles players current speed when player swaps his conigurations (and yes, citadel were even faster ship than the lightning vengeance ship if these 2 ships would have made a speed race).

After the speed boost nerf, citadel started to be a bit "clunky":But if you have a friend who plays with aegis, your ship decision is not that bad. Actually aegis/citadel duo playing combination is really strong when you take all the damage with Draw Fire and Protection abilities and your friend constantly repairs your ship.

Citadel is really slow and doesn't do so much damage. But instead, it has tons of shield and hitpoints, so updated shields and shield boosters (if possible) are making citadel even harder to kill. As @eT3RnitY said before, Ring formation makes citadel almost impossible to kill if enemies are not using moth- formation. You can have over 2m shield with ease which will be really hard to take down. If you are able to get a bit over 1m shield, you should be able to take down some cubicons with your friend. Just stay alert; many enemies likes to hunt players, which are hunting NPC's

In the end I have to say that citadel is not the best ship for shooting aliens. Aegis and Goliath ships are much better for this because these ships are able to make more damage than citadel (more damage -> more rewards in lesser time). But if your duo team does need some extra "tankiness" (will be really needed if suddenly enemy player strikes), Citadel will solve the problem and will probably save your day .

I would like to hear more of your stats; how much stuff you have (lf'4, special drones, shields with updates) so I can help you more.

 

If anything, I would most likely revert back to my Goliath. I wouldn't say I'm the best at the support role, and with my brother flying an Aegis it's pretty much balanced out at the end of the day. Having said that, I'll see how things go and I may even end up purchasing the Aegis package. Issue being with the Ring Formation, as much as it will make me impenetrable (for the most part) damage and rocket speed suffers quite a lot

I kind of rushed into buying the Citadel when I made my return to the game simply because I kind of left when it first came out and I never did much research before buying it, stupid decision on my behalf... I'm considering sticking with my Goliath, but then again I have a few designs to choose from, and of course to try get the best out of them. For the time being I'm pretty much there (as my Citadel) to sponge damage and deal whatever I can whilst I do so. But again, I'd like to take a more offensive stance

My stats aren't too good at the moment, I've got a pretty basic set-up, but I'm gonna be looking to expand on that soon enough...


* This is my current shield configuration, second configuration is dedicated to speed. If you have any recommendations as to how I should change or modify that, I'd appreciate it. Having said that, I may revert back to my trusty Goliath. Drones wise, they're all standard Iris, thereabouts level 6, and they're all equipped with LF3s

 

I would also choose either Aegis or Goliath. In fact, Aegis is much more useful then Goliath when doing PvE. So, two Aegis in group, you should be able to take Cubikon without a problem.

What I advised you about Ring formation, still stands in place. Ring is very useful in terms of tanking, and you should find it really useful.

No matter if you go with Goliath or Aegis, as your brother flies Aegis too, make this configurations:

• Damage config: best lasers on drones, then on ship. Shields on ship only.
• Tank config: best shields on drones, full speed on ship (or, you can put less speed on ship and utilize even more shields, your choice)

 

Thanks for the picture. As we both can see, you still need plenty of items to maximize your citadel power.

Since you don't own any lf-4's, special drones nor enough shields, you should consider to swap your ship; either to goliath or aegis. 2 support ships is not a bad option at all (2 medics, double fun ^^ ), but if you want to be the real "damage dealer/glass cannon", you should pick up goliath with spectrum design (and especially spectrum, if you are afraid to get shut down).

And one thing about aegis ship: don't be afraid to try that ship. It's really easy to use (click your target ally, which you want to heal) and it's also hard to kill because of the constant sustain

All in all, you should try to use another ship. Citadel isn't the best ship for shooting aliens, but instead of that, it really shines when defending clan battle stations and keeping allies untouchable. Just get more useful items (lf-4, shields, drones etc) and after all that, you should try to use Citadel again

And one last thing: DO NOT (I really mean it) buy special ship packages and other item packs with real money! They are not worth at all because you can get much better stuff for free (auction system is the best place to get stuff for free, if you have just started to play this game). Updated BO2 shields are fine but you should never buy LF-3 packs! In the end you won't need your lf-3 because you will replace them with LF-4 which will be worth to update. If you are really rich person and you really want to buy something which gives you some profit, buy Uridium during Mega or Helix hour (happens random times, usually sunday nights). And if you are having too much uridium (which won't happen to many players), buy discount- subscription, which gives you 25% discount to all uridum items in the shop!
