[SC] What formation to get with 150k uridium?

Okay, so here's what I've been thinking about lately, I'm close to 150k uridium, and ring formation looks sooooo OP, even after the nerf it's still gonna give I think an 80% increase to shields, and yet everyone keeps telling me that I should get drill first, even though it's damage boost is only 20% I think.

They say stuff like that you'll almost never use ring except for in PVP or gathering aliens to kami, but I've noticed there are a lot of aliens you need a ton of shields to survive, like when you're in 5-2 and a million pirates swarm you. I imagine 80% extra shields will help more than 20% extra damage in that scenario, because you'll never kill all of them before they kill you anyway, but you may be able to get them to the base. Plus, more shields means you can keep shooting for longer without having to spend time repping.

I also feel has though ring formation is useful so that I can have a fast, relatively hard hitting config, but still have decent shields on it. Basically, 20% extra damage just doesn't seem like that much to me.

A person said "You think you can solo a cube with ring?", I couldn't solo a cube with drill either probably. But almost double the shields sounds like it could get me closer than a little more firepower.

Another thing, I have seen a guy one time who got a huge amount of shields, and solo'd a cube while doing like I think 2k damage a hit, and it actually saved him ammo according to him.

Okay, let's start with the basics. You get rebate and/or premium when you buy crap with uri.(if you are even a little bit eager to spend on the game as it is right now)
Second of all, when a nub, you buy drill so you can increase your damage. When a nub you can't really solo cubes effectively either. So you want more damage because you are being destroyed by UFEs. 20% might not seem like much but it is really helpful.

 

Well, what about this, I use a setup where my config I fight on has speed on ship, shields on half the drones, weapons on the other half, I could get ring, take half the shields off my drones to replace with lasers, and get the same amount of shields, get more damage anyway, and then my config I run on and travel which has a cloak, shields on all the drones, and speed on ship would have twice has much shields. So for me, wouldn't ring be better?

 

Get 315k uridium buy rebate and premium then you can buy 3 formations and not having to worry about the choices, and the third is basically a free item at this point, further if you bought your uridium on MHH or Helix sale you would get all 3 for the price of 1 actual cash cost out of pocket.

You also want to make sure you have the right formation to work with the ring so after both configs of shields drop to the normal shield, switching to another formation you still have full shields left to work with.

 

My advice is dont spend either money or uri Maybe u should wait until they make those changes to formations and ships and decide later, there is a chance dome will be good for example.
Evaluation of ring and drill:
drill: lets assume u have sep in lasers (x1). Using a full set of spectral lancers and 31 lasers that is {15*170 (goli) + 16*1.1*170 (8 level 6 iris) }* 1.6 (seprum) *1.05 (dmg design) = 9310 dmg. For rockets its simply 2000*1.6=3200. Using drill u will get 1862 more dmg thus 11172. Its all about if u think 150k uri is worth this or not.

ring: For pvp i can tell u that it doesnt work so gr8 when the enemy freezes u and uses moth in u while doing 150k dmg, u will probably die with a lot of shield left (even with shield engenering). If u have however aegis or solace it can go diferent. About farming, i kill cubes with this formation together with diamond using x2 and sab. From experience i can tell u that it works, i kill the cube by sabing it with a fast config with a distribution of shields and lasers in the drones such that i can do enouth dmg with sab to negate the cube but still have some shield to run and another with full shields everywhere. This last one, i start with ring and then change to diamond.
It does the job but i dont know to what point is it better than aegis and drill combo from here:

Also there is a good chance that ring is going to be nerfed to the point u will no longer be able to use it to solo cubes with eco-ammo. Moreover soloing cubes is not realy effective (compared to team kill 4 ex)

Bottom line, wait, or if u dont want to i sujest u go with MOTH if u realy want a uri formation. Saves alot of ammo in zeta (the gate u will be using the most) (and besides zeta almost all of the event gates) and is handy to kill half dead aliens in the corners of 1-6.
