Good day, recently going into uni and learning to code and whatnot, it makes me wonder - who codes this game? I must admit that i have not read much about actionscript, but nevertheless im very confused..

Lets take the transfer system - in idea a very requested and useful feature considering how many ships there are in this game - but what happened when it was coded? Obviously the items in your selected ship sits in a database - the game would check if theres any ship in your hangar that has the same specifications as your current ship youre managing. Why though, as i stated recently im just starting to code, so this might not be the most efficient way to solve this problem, but lets say - you take the information of the equipment (id imagine the equipment for each ship gets separated by types of item for example - lasers) - even if your database system is old (which i imagine it could be the game being launched in 2006 or something like that) and doesnt support much, although sql was released in the last century, so what the hell am i talking about, anyways - you could take the infromation from the cell, split it into an array with a comma seperator - and there you have it an array of your x items, you check IF your current ship laser count is larger than your selected ship - lets say you move from goliath to venge, theres 15, it sees that venge has 10 - it moves items 11-15 to the inventory? Why is this not a thing?

The client itself also baffles me - how can server overloads cause our clients FPS to drop? Like, how is that even possible, i understand that being the case for the backpage - you request data from the server and whatnot, but the client - you input, and then send to the server, atleast thats how it normally goes.

Plus whats the bloody difficult part of moving accounts from a server to another? You store all the account data into a database - for efficiency reasons this database should be split into multiple tables for faster reading, again if this is not the case that should make the task even easier - you export the mysql code from your selected account, and execute it as a query on the other database - boom - the account gets moved. I understand that if you not wish to automate this - the requests would take quite a bit of effort - but having this as a paid service would bring profits, or locking it down to a month so it doesnt get over-used.

Again - this is just me speculating as i dont actually know how the system is set up, granted it being an old game i imagine that a lot of the things can be written in pretty horrific colors for someone to understand. But every sunday people sink thousands of dollars during the MHH, that should be able to pay for an extra dev that can overwrite these features into a newer, more efficient order.

Take it as a bash for the game or not - my point is - for a large company like this, the game looks rubbish. But then again, why bother with fixing it when people are still paying for it.

I understand re-writing old content doesnt bring in new players, but once in a while that couldnt hurt in keeping the current ones you have.

    Thats my rant done.

  2. The issue with moving accounts server to server is rank, balance, and population.

Why would they combine GA1 with GA2 when GA1 is populated as it is? So it's not really a matter of coding, but on how to tactically and efficiently move the accounts in the best way possible.

Now the Hangar thing and how they did it is just stupid let me tell ya lmao

The over-population hadnt ran through my mind, but rank shouldnt really matter - its not like you compete for npcs to get rank, you camp gates all day, so it doesnt matter which server you bought the uri on to farm gates, thats like saying you cant take part in the olympic games because you might be better than the current champion

I mean, yeah, if i was able to switch servers id switch to the most active one, not a dead server again, so it is interesting indeed

  4. Well, you do have yahoos that spend thousands of dollars for nothing but the stars next to their name(who disguise it as a hobby). I guarantee you they would be furious -granted that Darkorbit would have to listen to them, they give them most of their revenue.

Like someone said in another post, as long as these fools spend thousands of dollars for nothing but a rank, nothing will be accomplished in this game, and we will forever be in the pay2win/play state that's unhealthy for this game.

Speaking of pay2win/play, Darkorbit administrators also mentioned, that when they combine servers, they will eventually die out because of the players who spend money will destroy the noobs and the dominate clan will run out any competition -and in turn will destroy the population of the servers(yet again).

In addition, to really solve all of the bugs and glitches, and to possibly even improve the performance of all players and eliminate virtually any and all cheats, the game would have to be downloadable to reach it's full potential. I'm not a technical expert, but that seems the best route to go.
