For those who don't know, when you press "F" on the game it brings up a menu that shows your FPS and memory usage in real time.

I think it would be very beneficial to add ping / latency to this option.

Why would this be useful? A lot of the time when people complain of dodgy goings on during DarkOrbit it can be linked directly to lag, with these options people can at least see in real time their ping / latency is and what is going on with it.

  2. I agree, I believe the correct term should be Latency since Ping could get confused with other terms ingame. +1 it's a simple implementation.

It might also improve the function of ping since many times it fails to work and instead of pinging the map it flies you to that location. Normally it seems to fail when you need to call assistance to the location of an enemy lol

  4. This is a nice idea, and "easy" to do, yes ??

Yeah fair point, changed the post accordingly.

As far as I know yes, it's very common for games to include an option for the user to see their ping / latency.

  6. I have "non official" way of testing this...While flying I pull my pet out and see how far the dot really is from me on the mini-map. Some times my ship is not at all where my space screen shows lol.

Exactly what I did. Confused the term ping, lol :)

I thought you were suggesting to show where the game thinks you are on the map rather than where you think you are. Ignore everything I've said in this thread.

  8. +1 Simple, to the point, and easy to implement; helps everyone and may contribute to less accusations In Chat; as people would be able to see exactly what was going on with their connection.

  9. Servers such as DarkOrbit with such a high volume of connections and users/machines connected to them will throttle the connections bandwidth and upstream/downstream capabilities. So even with your super uber 100mb/s connection, you would still only be limited to the throttling of the serverside connection setup.

Thus meaning a ping/latency display would make any arguement with lag or any other internet related issue obsolete.

If you want to monitor connections, I would advise using a program such as NetBalancer to determine speed and latency, and such with a log which it writes as it monitors upon users request when setting the software up.

EDIT: Lets not forget to think about Jitter over your phone line or what ever connection you may be using, this also plays a big part in connection stability.

    Thanks.

    LAGI.
