  1. Okay, I am positive some players won't like what I'm going to say, so I'm going to try to be as objective as possible about my issue. I see a lot of offensive stuff on chat and it seems like too much of it is missed on a regular basis, or at least it is biased against players. Therefore, the banning system is absolutely flawed. I suggest a zero tolerance on arguing or a new system. Players put money on this game and when they shoot someone that did it to them 'IN THE FIRST PLACE' they seem to get a volley of abuse. When some players retaliate it seems on many occasions to go the wrong way. This could end in disgruntled customers getting totally banned. I am just stating that this has been the same for years and hasn't changed. Why hasn't it been changed because some players believe it is actually ridiculous.

    Thanks.

  5. I agree Rock.
Let's hope the developers sort it out. Maybe employ people to monitor chat that ain't connected to the game.

  6. I bet it's A-okay when this happens to free players but when the player spends money we have to call in the troops lol, this is your second thread on the issue of chat and bias from moderators, it happens so welcome to Darkorbit, I doubt they'd hire paid employee's to monitor chat when they have people already doing it for very little if not free. There's so much wrong with chat but I doubt anything will ever change.

  7. I made two chats because I had another idea and couldn't work out how to add the poll to the original..Besides, there is a lot to be said about chat rules and ingame corruption.

  8. I think I can predict the future, I'm seeing forum bans and disappearing threads.

  9. No sorry, I am not.

Everyone has a right to there own opinion and should be able to express it and post it, as long as it doesn't break forum rules or insults anyone.

  13. Yeah i get freely accused of cheating in chat for a good hour and the CM came and just told them to stop... then they argued with the CM about it and still dint receive a ban... i got abused in chat and accused for something i dont do its not fair they are allowed to do this..

You can say other's aren't entitled to their opinions, but you can't do anything to enforce your deranged rules.

    Hi there ZÿИΛPS™,

Thank you for the post and feedback on the current moderating system that we have in place.

I think firstly that we need to remember first and foremost that ultimately there are two types of moderators in chat; human and the system. We are human, we do need to go shopping and go to our regular jobs, and this does mean that at certain periods of the day or night chat may not be attended therefore the chat system filter is our source of moderation. Although this does provide a barrier in moderation, it can be restrictive and players often find ways to find their ways around the filter, something that the filter couldn't act upon, where a human moderator could.

When it comes to the standard moderator, be it myself a Chat Admin, an SMOD or a Chat Mod, we are able to moderate with much more freedom and the ability to notice offensive chat where the system filter can't. We are given a 'chat ban guide' which has been verified by Support, and this is something that we have had to change and adapt several times over the past few years, especially during periods where bots were raging in-game, or users were abusing non-english, however it has also been adapted to reflect a more adult game. This is something that was a big change for us, but a change that was initiated by the feedback by users such as yourself.

    I think the issues you are talking about if i am correct, is flaming, or aggravating users. This is an extremely difficult thing to moderate as it is hard to differentiate what is bannable and what is not. For example (this is one extreme, but very common);

    Player Y: Player X is a noob

Technically this is flaming as Player Y is trying to aggravate Player X by calling them a noob, but are we really going to ban somebody calling somebody a noob, no is the answer. We are trying to create an adult chat that has chat rules, this is why certain features such as chat filtering with *** has been implemented, but when it comes to arguments, there are fine lines that are hard to moderate, and there are also players in their wisdom who are familiar with the chat system that they know the boundaries.

In order for us to moderate effectively and efficiently, we have to have boundaries to allow us to know what offenses are bannable or not. This does not mean to say that we do not take our own discretion of chat when we moderate, but we do have to moderate within the boundaries and the guides that we have been given to us.

It is something that we are constantly changing and trying to improve upon, and certainly something were are continually trying to tighten in areas where players do bend the lines too far or find loop holes, which is why we appreciate your comments.

I do certainly recommend however that whenever you do feel as if you have been getting abuse by players in chat, and a moderator is not available or has not seen it, to please take a screenshot and send it to support.

    Regards,

    CA_Ddraig

  16. Okay that makes sense, but unfortunately quite a few players are subject to 'verbal bullying.' You mentioned the chat rules have changed considerably and the rules of chat are relaxed. In the past, I remember support not waiving even the pettiest misdemeanors therefore, because of the change, I feel it has let the players down considerably. For the reason that, and may I politely suggest that the loophole you mentioned is the actual change of chat rules and many clever players have exploited it already!

I have a question; how is this game fun when a player tops up or gets good ammo and 'hunts/pops' a player, to then be told they are rubbish by whole clans and in some cases companies? (I think it should be thoroughly investigated, it may be an important point?) I believe that Dark Orbit Reloaded should implement paid moderators that do the job properly in detecting this kind of game play problem. It is an existing problem that hasn't been addressed properly as many players will agree, I am sure of it! However, like you said, it is very difficult to detect and in some instances unfortunately it goes on for some time.

Lastly, with reference to the rules of the moderators not being allowed on their home server's and your interesting point; there are 'also' a number of players that play on multiple servers?
    This fact reinforces my point.
    ;)

    Thank you.

  17. let me correct that "SOMETIMES" to "ALMOST ALL THE TIME", thats all i gotta say.
and as someone said before.... Welcome To Dark Orbit.

  18. Ive been saying for years chat should be moderated by paid DO people not players .

Been on both sides of the fence and still see in chat one rule for one player and another rule for another plus you see inchat no disrespect to anyone on the team but you see some banning players for silly things like caps but don't ban them for abuse which doesn't made any sense to me.

Things need to be changed because morale of players is at a all time low as it is and they don't need it from what goes on in chat just that's my honest opinion ;).

"Technically this is flaming as Player Y is trying to aggravate Player X by calling them a noob, but are we really going to ban somebody calling somebody a noob, no is the answer."

You know ddraig what I just quoted what you just said the answer should be yes because some people do get offended if they are called a noob and its your duty as a mod to ban them when that person tells you about it or give them a warning;).

  19. I agree, and still sticking to the facts, the chat rules need to be corrected.

Sadly, it's something the developers have obviously missed because they don't want to employ professionals to do the job.

Another point is; any Tom, Dick or Harry is employed by Dark orbit to do a job? In the real world they do all sorts of checks on people for sensitive jobs.

As you stated, the job of weeding out bullies is difficult, therefore shouldn't real paid professionals be weeding out the 'cyber bullies' It is actually illegal.
