Spaceball Cargo

  1. Ever played Spaceball & shot the ball all the way to your company's portal to x-5 maps only not to receive any cargo because of not only enemy players cloaked, but also your own company members who do not shoot the ball - some of whom are cloaked, some sit at the portal & some who jump in & out of 4-4 & x-5 maps.

    Is there anything that can be done to help those who shoot the ball ... well, maybe there is.

    What about the ball giving out extra cargo at random until it reaches the portal. This could be on a couple of occasions, on several occasions or not at all (the latter which may be for 1 goal or even sevreal goals).

    This will undoubtedly help those who shoot the ball & may even tempt others, who just wait around for the cargo, to shoot the ball.
     
  2. The Space Ball rewards should be like the NPC debris rewards. If you are not actively shooting the ball or on the winning team that got the ball there you should not be able to see the rewards. That would put an end to the cloakers and enemy raiders of the rewards.

    I agree that it would be nice to see some changes to this event to reduce the amount of stealing that goes on. The original suggestion of cargo boxes randomly dropped I think would still result in a swarm of spears around the ball stealing as it moves along.

    Grumpy, what about the guys who don't shoot ball but provide the cover to fend off attacks? I don't play sb that much but when I do I am mostly not shooting the ball, I am shooting enemies and don't have hotkeys for switching back to credit ammo to shoot the ball. I'd rather just stay in full on attack mode to help the goal get scored. With your suggestion I wouldn't get any rewards? (not that I'm overly bothered but others might be)

    My own idea might be to make the ball like a shared npc that is "popped" when a goal is scored. It could be for a set amount of uri, extra energy and x4 (given even if over ammo cap :shakefist: ) and shared out to all players, of the scoring company, that shot the ball.

    This combined with perhaps only making the port cargo viewable by the winning company would eliminate the stealing by other companies and also reward the shooters of the ball.

    In my opinion it would make the event play more like I understand the way it should work but I think BP prefer things that cause tension between players in the game that lead to wars (such as people from same company sat on port to leech rewards without doing anything) as that wastes more ammo.

  4. Any extra cargo would be purely random. The idea was to entice more players to shoot the ball & perhaps gain some extra cargo as quite often it is the lesser players who shoot the ball - some players do not realise that the more damage the ball takes, the more cargo it gives out.

    Also, I was thinking of the ball giving out special cargo boxes - maybe in different colours or even numbers/letters - similar to the Hitac. These would have a validity period depending on their type & could be exchanged more precious equipment.

    Say, collecting letter "L" cargo & exchanging 100 for an LF4 - but would be valid for only 90 days from collection. This would be a better way of getting more players involved & even making the event more competitive.
     
  5. A set shared pay-out would probably work better although the bigger players might have the same problem with small ships shooting a couple of times like on cubes just to leech.

    If the devs or managers are listening they might see how hard it is to make the changes for a couple of events and evaluate the response.
     
  6. This has been an issue since spaceball began and it frustrates a whole lot of people that play it like me. Often by the time the boxes appear on my screen, they were already being eaten by cloakers and pets. That's why I found SB useless except for pvp which I can't do in my spearhead cause I'm a noob. Perhaps more would participate if they actually gave a reward for shooting the ball/getting it to the port, instead of seeing who has the fastest computer and the best trigger finger.

    Make the reward given for shooting the ball based on how much "damage" you do to the ball and it's sorted ;)

  9. I have to disagree with this idea. There would be large conflict with Other companies who wouldn't have a chance to collect the cargo from the ball. EIC in GA3 for example, hog the ball each event and people from vru and mmo hate them for it. Rewarding a dominating company even more, would aggravate Others even more and would make the companies even more unbalanced.

    Just throw in three space balls on the map. One for EIC, one for MMO, and one for VRU. (that cannot be shot by the other companies) Give out half the cargo to those who have been shooting the ball, the rest just thrown out for everybody to grab it.

    - newbies still get a chance to get something
    - players of the game are rewarded for doing so
    - hunters can still go after other players
    - nobody gets to own the event. (it would be hard to protect three balls at the same time)

    Or as a twist, if enemy company shoots the spaceball, it can explode and throw out cargo for everybody. This would prevent the original company to score a goal.
     
  12. Totally good idea. It should be a shared reward to all who participate in the actual moving of the ball.
    Also Like NPC kills only the ones who shot see the cargo.
    No stealing lol.

    why they havent done this already lol.... make ball like an npc, when goal scored, shared like cube (tho people who only shoot the once get like 5 creds... to stop leechers)
