[TI] impossible shots, bug or hacking?

    i'm getting real sick of this because it happens every time.

    i'm in a veng, 604 speed with wheel formation, and a goliath starts chasing me.

    i'm way ahead of them, getting further, passing port and begin to jump.

    at the exact moment i'm about to go through, an impossible shot from them hits me and cancels the jump, then when i have to turn around they finish it.

    every sticking time. why is the game so broken like this?

    I think what you got there is network latency.

    Not sure though, cause you got me thinking now. 3 hours ago, it happened the same to me. I was boxing on my company PvP map, when one goliath started hitting me as soon as I hit J to jump on port. By the way, I also slowed him with a slow mine. Had him on lock, and I saw preety clear that he hit the mine. At the end, he killed me because he kept shooting me from insane range.
     
  3. yup its been happening its more of a bug tho like people losing shields and speed needing to relogg lol funny thing I put enough sep on my shields to last me 2 weeks and it was gone 10min ago lol what a bug fix it DO I dont have unlimited supply of sep to be wasting.

    The real issue here is that when you choose to jump port, you're not actually still moving, when it engages, your ship actually stops where it is, and the goli can catch up before the jump finishes, hitting you with that last 160k hit and knocking you down the rest of the way.

    i had clicked beyond the port on the minimap, definitely had not stopped. but you're saying there's a split second when the jump actually triggers that considers you holding still? even if that's the case, last time this happened the guy wasn't remotely close enough yet. i could have done a little dance in the time it should have taken him to catch up.

    i've noticed similar weird shooting behaviors with aliens too, and maybe it's related. sometimes a bunch will shoot when i'm just out of range, but i'll take no damage. i forget what happens exactly, but after that, one will shoot from some impossible distance and hit me for a huge amount like the group should have caused. Devy is probably right, these things must have something to do with latency.

    i do a lot of programming though, and the portal thing reminds me a whole lot of a test variable being misinterpreted. maybe the point that you jump the player position becomes void, or a random chance of something that results in the hit test logic producing a positive.

    i think i'll just teleport from now on... end up at base either way...

    You don't get what I'm telling you, no matter whether your screen show you moving, or you clicked past the port, as soon as you begin the jump, you are no longer moving.

    Who said this? :D If you have clicked on the mini map, when you press J you won't be slowed. If you haven't clicked, than you will be slowed when jumping.

How about the fact that lately i am attacking an enemy when all the sudden can't attack anymore? goes from shooting to a stop can see still have lock didn't change ammo nothing just go from shooting to not shooting. can see that i still have lock and i am sitting right on top of the player but have to lock something else and then re lock the player to start shooting again. And same thing has happened to me about trying to jump and the impossible shot from nowhere stops the jump. But really we all know this stuff is happening and we all know DO knows it's happening same as the bots that are running again for players to gather boxes while their sleeping. It's just we will have to wait and see if DO will do something about it? Hopefully they will cause this is getting frustrating to watch others use cheats and getting away with it.

    I hope that wasn't their fix as I have (or had, at work so can't logon to check) 200,000~ minutes of prom and sep, enough for like 4 1/2 months...!!
     
  11. Happens a lot to me when the network is going a bit slow, the ship isnt actually where it is on your screen and the server thinks its a bit further back.
    I can be chasing someone and be on top of them and it says im out of range, and then they will just roar off at the speed of light when the network catches back up to where they actually are.
    Another example I sometimes get is when I jump through port and start getting hit by npcs and I can see red dots on the mini map far away from where I am because everything has got a bit confused...

    that all makes sense, except here's the thing.

    port, jump, and then at the exact second i would actually jump comes the impossible shot canceling it, one shot.

    now here's the important part, after that, i still have to wait for the person to catch up before they resume attacking.

    can't just be a matter of being stopped, or my screen showing something different then the game.

    or, maybe it can be. so there's no rubberbanding? then on my screen it waits to show the attacks until they are represented to be close enough, but on their screen they're already at port, and i'm already dead?

    i guess that kind of makes sense...

    it still seems weird though. i'll be in the radiation zone at that point, and the person will change direction when i change direction. if they're being so misrepresented on my end, why does it play out so accurately?

  14. It's not rubber banding or lag if you go from shooting to not shooting then click something else then click back and are able to attack again.

    alright, last thought about this. like chrome pup said, your ship must be sitting at port, then when the chaser catches up, they hit you once, and that triggers the cancel, which puts your ship at its current spot (roaring off, etc).

    that explains why it's always one hit. and this does make sense, thanks everyone. i'll have to experiment with turning around after initiating the jump, roaring off for a head start to another port. good times.

    only question i have is why would they make the ship stop on one end, but not the other? i'd rather go roaring off then forced to sit there of course, but yeah. someone can probably close this. cheers.
     
  16. hmm pet seems to fire when your locked on someone but out of range. i always put this as graphical glitch doesn't really damage no real shot but what if this is a glitch being abused what if that shot triggers the cancel all you got to do is be locked and attacking out of range then hit CTRL twice check it out maybe this is the problem

    Edit : just tested on npc double hit the CTRL out of range and pet fires a round at what your locked on might have to test with someone and send info to support if it really is triggering the jump cancel

    i have had this happen to me many times always hit them with freeze then slow mine on there head while frozen and they so far away there's the shot stopping you from jumping

    yeah, seems to happen to me no matter how far away they are. but on their end maybe they're close enough to port, i dunno. i'm willing to believe these clients can have a difference of opinion. been teleporting to base instead of relying on ports, saving those poor drones...
