[TI] Please explain your software dev problems

    Hi,

    It seems to me that DO is not using best practice software development methodologies. If you were using TDD (test driven development) which means unit tests are written for all classes and/or functions as pass/fail conditions, as well as CI (continuous integration) which will not let changes in code that fail in TDD tests to be put in production, that DO and we (your players and customers) would not be experiencing the current state of a such a broken game.

    Having legacy code is not an excuse. Professional software developers will examine old code and wright unit tests to validate the code if none exist, as well as wright the test unit cases for all new code being introduced. Then using CI reporting, fix both the old and new code so that nothing fails, thereby ensuring that only rare edge cases cause real problems.

    Please tell me if you are using these methods or not, and why DO thinks it is okay to continue to push new code on to a broken code base that has caused so much game and customer disruption in such a bad way.

    I get that you are working on it and can't tell us when things will be solved before they are solved. I also get that customers like me are upset that updates are so infrequent.

    I just want to understand, as I evaluate whether to stay or go.

  2. Im sorry I dont see your problem the cbs and salvage protocols are working again the other miner bugs are still around but there miner DO will take there time with it one thing I would love them to fix is the distances bug its annoying.

    I apologize if I was rude. I'm just so frustrated. Even today, I'm still missing my base spearhead in my hanger.

  6. Every one is frustrated with the current state of the game. They released an update/fix today, if you have not had them returned by the time the server resets tomorrow (usually 5-6 am server time), you may have to clear everything again, restart router/modem and computer. If you still do not have the Spearhead create a ticket explaining the steps you have done and see why you have not got it back? I did check both of my accounts and got all of my missing ships back today.
     
  7. Sending to support will not actually get it to the dev's. You have a greater shot at a mod sending this to the devs attention as supports job is to help customers with quick-fixes and close the ticket. Anything can be said to contradict what I said but if you can't prove me wrong, don't bother typing.

    Now that we have to check every last bit of our networking equipment, one has to wonder what the deal is. It does seem as though most recent problems have been corrected but until everyone is able to chat again, one has to wonder "what's really going on."

    To the OP, it seems you could help DO a lot with troubleshooting issues. If not, your wording says otherwise. Good questions there. I hope you get some resolutions to your inquiry.

  8. The only reason I have made the suggestion is that it was stated by one of the MOD Team IF the other steps have not returned the ships to your inventory, the account needs further investigation to understand why they have not been returned.

    I personally think Support is a waste of time, but also assume they have been informed of these issues coming in and have been requested to get as much information to help the Dev Team to track down the resistant bugs in the game.

    The Chat issues and missing ships are both items that are only effecting a few players now and thus are the issues that are needed to be sent to Support for further INDIVIDUAL Account investigations as stated in many MOD responses to these issues as they are being closed now.
     
  9. Your caps are noted, and tired.... Sending to support is good for individual attention. However the OP is asking very technical questions best suited for the dev's. Personally, I would think it best to submit it in the chat section of the forums with a request that the mods send it on to the dev's.
