I wonder why DO is capped at 60 FPS?

I have a 144FPS monitor and this is kind of stupid for me, it would be much better for me to run at 144FPS so that the motion would be smoother...

Now the slight difference in colour accuracy on this TN panel wasn't worth the trade off for 144FPS (at least in DO).

  2. There are a lot of factors involved for your question, one of least is the internet. The route the game takes to get to you, your isp account, access equipment at where you play, and the computer itself all play a factor. Personally I hate when my fps gets higher than 50 as the game seems to lag the worse at that point. When it is around 15, it seems I have smooth sailing.

Please never speak on this forum again. You are the dumbest tech person ive ever known. Said nicely.

    1. Internet is fine
    2. You mean packets, not 'the game'
    3. ISP account?
    4. Acess equipment?
    5. Computer itself? DO is not CPU or GPU intensive.
    6. 50 FPS cant be worse than 15 you pleb.

  5. Your Game lag's when your FPS gets higher?
    Is that even possible?
I heard the human cant see above 24 fps
Also what does someone's ISP Account take factor in the amount of frames they are getting
OP Clearly is asking why there is some type of frame limiter on the game
If you think 15 fps is smooth you are a console peasent

@PSKSUNDANCE do you have any idea of what you are talking about or are you just smashing your head on the keyboard hoping you will generate a useful post?

    @PKSUNDANCE
Your post is a quite a bit confusing there...
I'm fairly sure you mean ping and not fps, right?

  8. I have the best computer dude but my fps is maximum 60-61 in game. But in other games its so high.

  9. OMG, my side just split laughing so much. At any rate, and this is me on my noob account, we all have our thoughts on issues. And who said I was a tech person? Anyways, you don't like my answer, I am good with that. I will go focus on real game problems players have, and not your high tech monitor that you can't get desired fps on. And no, when my fps shoes above 50, I can count on a crash very soon. Good Luck in the future. o_O

Frame rate is not just hardware related it is also dependent on the animation and how it as been created, when creating 3D models the poly count (number of polygons in each model) is kept low as not to stress out cpu's and gpu's once a model as been completed and textured it will then be animated (google Walt Disney for animation as he was an expert ) and the frame rate for the animation is set by the number of individual frames needed per second for a smooth look. If the animation as been created at 60fps no matter how high end your hardware the fps will not get any higher. The dev team set there animations to a set parameter to make the game run smoothly as possible for both ends of the hardware scale and not just for high end hardware. As regards your monitor being 144 FPS I would check again as a monitor works on refresh rates of either 50Hz or 60Hz this the refresh rate this means your monitor will refresh at either 50 or 60 times per second depending on your settings your graphics card can determine your fps in part in tandem with other variables.

  11. Umm... dude...?
Your internet connection has nothing to do with FPS...
FPS is Frames Per Second, and that's how well your Computer is playing each "slice" of graphic within one second; the more, the better, with 30~35 FPS being smooth enough to barely notice any jerks.

And lagging at 50 FPS vs not lagging at 15 FPS?
Are you talking about internet wise?
50 FPS plays more "slices" of graphics in a second and should be non-laggy compared to 15 FPS, which is quite bad.

    Don't forget about 30Hz! xD

    To OP:
During the creation of DarkOrbit, they maxed out the frame rate at 60 or 64 FPS (my PC jumps between the two). There is really no need to go any higher, as the reward from doing so is so little compared to the cost.

    Pros (Going over 60 FPS):
-Very little improvement to the human eye

    Cons:
    -GPU/GFX Intensive
    -Higher cost
    -Larger Space
-Higher probability of encountering lag spikes

On top of those, I think it being a browser game could also be why it's at 60 FPS Cx

Thank you very much for assisting this player with their issue.

As you are correct, when the game Dark Orbit was created it was maxed out at right around 60 FPS due to the fact that it is a web browser based game.

I would also ask, that when posting in the technical section please do not flame others attempting to offer assistance.

Does the OP have any further questions on this topic?
    Have a nice day

  13. Just reread over the thread, not laughing this time (at least not as much) happy person I am, and see I was off in my thinking. Good thing there were others available to chime in. Silly me.
