To make the forum more interesting...

Hi there! I'm Pup™[TAG], back before the new forum was launched I was a very active and avid forum user and FanFiction writer. Now, I know that the purpose of the forum revamp/replacement was to clean it all up and just help DarkOrbit start fresh (DarkOrbit Reloaded, eh?). But one of major DOWNGRADES (in my opinion) with this new forum is that it lacks a FanFiction section.

I know a lot of people around here don't have the same respect and outlook on FanFiction, otherwise the section would still be here, but I also know that there are more than just a few people out there, LIKE ME, who would LOVE to keep producing FanFiction for the game. I am currently about thirty pages into a huge FanFiction story for DarkOrbit that I truly am very proud of.

When FanFiction gets so neglected that it needs to be put all the way down into Speaker's Corner, fourth to last category on the forum without even it's own sub-section, it's kind of sad, really... The story that I'm working on will be released chapter by chapter which I'm going to add each chapter onto the main thread as well as making a whole new thread for that chapter in case anyone wants to only read a specific chapter at a time... That would FLOOD the Speaker's Corner and most likely annoy those who follow that section.

So, what I'm asking is to give the user's creativity a new life with it's own section for Fan-based things ranging from FanArt all the way to FanFiction. I know how much I'd appreciate having a section to be known in again and would really just like for every player's creative thoughts to be grouped together for all to see for constructive criticism, writing/drawing tips, etc.

Of course, a sticky thread would have to be placed at the top letting all the users of the section to be polite and whatnot because the last thing we want to do is discourage the few or many writers who may be playing this game (IF it get's created)! I love watching new writers improve and explore new writing techniques, and with a FanFiction section, it would be far easier to find.

Now, I really don't mean to keep rambling on, but I just wanted to answer a question before it even gets asked. Some of you, I KNOW, are asking yourselves "Well... Why not just use the Speaker's Corner? What's wrong with what we have?" Well, when I asked where to put my stories once I'd finished them, a Forum Administrator answered me telling me that they now use the Speaker's Corner for FanFiction. Curious, I did some reading in the section and was quite distraught to notice that there was not a single FanFiction story in there!!! And, while I could be completely wrong, I'm thinking that the reason might actually be that people don't know in advance that that's where they're supposed to post their work.

Most of the Speaker's Corner is filled with general chat threads rather than creative works. Chat threads like wishing other players a Happy New Year or Happy Holidays, or simply asking a question that they want answered by other players rather than Administrators.

I would absolutely adore any form of comments showing support or disagreement to my request because I truly think that bringing FanFiction back will give the forum more life.

I don't see why not they fixed it when it wasn't broken. So a more noticeable or standalone Fan Fiction spot is +1 from me.

 

I like the idea! A place where you and I'm sure many others would love to place their work for other fans, I'd be interested in seeing that hopefully we do get a proper designated place on the forum for such things! I think it would even encourage a few more people to give it a go

 

I used to be a regular author as well. I would like to write again.
