[UI] accounts worth thousands of pounds

as people get hacked from time to time on this why don't you put a 2 step verification process with a text getting sent to a phone for a pin number you have to put in after you log in it would be a great idea because then the accounts would be very secure then just like gmail and facebook no one would be able to access the account with out having someones phone

 

And how are you implying to do that, are we supposed to wait every time we want to log in to the game for a message, which btw is not free and would DO have to pay for it?
And FYI you can log in to your facebook or gmail account without having a phone

 

I think he means that if someone tries to acces the account on another computer (thus another IP) he would need some extra kind of verification, which if he doesn't have, does not gain him acces to the account. Think of this like a secret question such ass: what is your mothers name, or what have you always wanted to be. These are answers that only the owner can know. This is also easier compared with a phone though both are possible. I've seen a few of these strategies now on multiple games / sources and I think it makes it safer, without making loging in any harder.

 

I mentioned about a/n "Authenticator" in this forum a while back that we should be using one just like they use for World of Warcraft a "Battle.net Authenticator" You couldn't get any better security when using "Authenticator". It's the way forward.

Security has no bounds if somebody hack my main account i would leave if support did not give it back.... full stop.

 

People don't "simply hack an account", they need your Password or at least an idea of what your password could be. If you're using a weak password or give it away to somebody that's your own fault and if i would be a supporter (i actually way) i wouldn't be givin you anything back, so for the next time you'll think twice who and what password.

Of course it's not impossible to get some exploits into do database, but even if you somehow do manage to read out the data it should be encrypted with a md5 hash + salt (basically a random words get's put as sort of "key" to decrypt the password upon loggin in).

Also DO definately needs a Wildcard for at least 4048 bit encypted connections (https) as a reaction to people who are dumb enough to switch their AntiVirus off. Sniffers crawl all over your Computer and "capture" packages send during logging in, that's how they get your passwords sometimes, but only if it's a good hacker. A https connection would definately help for that Problem.

As for the KeyLoggers, that's basically your own fault, deal with it. Check for viruses often, then you don't get keyloggers on your pc. It's fer sure not DarkOrbit's fault, if YOU have a Virus on your Computer.



And by the way: You can set up Servers to act as a message server, connecting to mobile networks and sending messages via those. That's not to hard and doesn't cost anything.
