  2. Yeah, its discussed in here from time to time. Ok, maybe daily, but its pretty much on the back burner since they don't want to start closing down servers this close after the recent buyout/investment. Any other company would do some consolidation at this point, but BP is trying to show it is just working on expansion. Good Luck over there.

  3. B P has started merging servers on other games and D O saw how much it cost those games and they are trying to find a way around the losses that were felt by those other games. The best way to fix this issue would be to turn an account into a "packet" that could be pulled from any server and placed on another. As they could have a chart of server activity a person should be able to send a ticket to "Account Supervision Team" (new department specific to Server Moves) where they can provide suggestions on what servers might be of interest to the player and his style of play. This would solve several issues, first server population could be increased, second you could create servers that were mainly PvE or PvP and even put the UFE on one server, you would be able to know a little about the server before actually making the change (unlike now where you hope you will enjoy it when you create a new account), and finally it would prevent the multiple accounts on multiple servers as people try to find a perfect fit for their game play style.

If they put a cost on the server jump, similar to the Change of Company currently in use, say 50% EP and Honor along with 25K Uridium and could only do this once every 6 months, people would think twice about the jump and would really want to research where they want to be placed before actually being moved. The information collected by the AST would include average activity of server (Daily, Weekly, and Monthly), percentage of players doing G G's, PvE, and PvP activities, percentage of Clans (company loyal, Open entry {for helping PvE}, or MCC bullies {PvP hunters}), and finally the number of players who log in to transfer SkyLab or check the game but don't stay more than 5 minutes at a time. A person would make a request to transfer to another server, the AST would compile a list of 6 servers that fit the players current game playing style/desires, and then the player would pick a server and be moved to it within 48 hours of decision.

But then you have the issue of people jumping from server to server causing the ranking system (which is so obsolete it needs to be replaced anyway) to have issues and D O is worried that they might lose even more of the players they do not care about at this point anyway.

  4. I'll be fine with server merges once they fix up DO with balancing

  5. PvE at WILL

  6. I am thinking back to the twitch session that spoke about merges, and with all the other sessions, it seems they were discussing it as its always a hot topic in the forums, and chat, but is now basically dismissed. I mean really, what can they really do to level the playing field. Everyone knows what FE is. For UFE, you add LF4, Havok, Herc, BIO, Formations, all raising the bar when discussing the difference in who will win or loose a battle. If they team up, things get really ugly. Over time, a lot of them have simply gotten bored I feel. One could say there were lots of things that had veteran players stop logging in but simply, there is new stuff coming out daily. How many times can you plow through the ranks of players without saying, I just don't get the rush anymore. I can understand what the Dev's mean by the Game Economy, or how they should say Servers Way Of Life. Players get used to certain things being allowed by other players and throwing various servers together could put an end to that. Most, get started about rank. On my main, my rank constantly bounces back and forth. Its annoying to say the least, and I wish it would just rest on one I don't care which. Even better, I would love it if they put an option no to show the rank, as there is really nothing more annoying. Players see names and that, coupled by the drone readings, as I don't show drones either, is all I need to make a decision on if I am going to move away from safety, attack, or just relax and go get me a soda until the enemy player moves along. Since getting my chat back, I can see that even though they are not chatting, there are a lot of players on from my company. Its more than I was used to seeing by 800% in the chat. I assume most of them don't have chat working and wonder where they may be located as I fly around the maps, in the end think probably gates. In the end I think they could give us some kind of stats, any kind of stats about how many accounts are logging into a server on a daily, weekly, and or monthly time frame. They brought up in a Twitch session that they looked at the numbers like that meant anything. They don't tell us the numbers in comparison to anything. Just more bland information like just about everything. Only solid information they have ever given is codes, and that a test server was open. I know they don't want to tell us solid information on things they can't say is ready as of now but I would rather they not say anything at all if that is the case. Maps are never as full as they are in Dec. Use tat as a baseline and see how low the population is. The active users know if it is dead or not and I am referring to evening hours and not morning or overnight. Prime time is so dead its hilarious.

I play for hours and my server is boring but I don't really mind because I just enjoy the game. But at times I do get bored because the chat can be really dead. I think merging servers will be a good thing because it will revive the spirits of some players. The only thing we need to do is wait...Patients is a virtue

  8. Yea, but with server merges, DO will lose even more players. UFEs are really a big problem in this game

  9. this game started dying when they started releasing all these unessecerry updates and cosmetics and too many gates, compare do to when it first started and too what it is now.
    ITS DEAD
do need to just reset there whole server system and reinstall the old client from when the game was first started. and then send out millions of emails apologising to all its past players and admit they messed up, I could probally put my years wage on it bringing back thousands of players. and reveining this game. but as it stand now, this game is dropping off the map. and will soon fail due to its own greed.

PLEASE READ THIS AND STOP SERVER MERGE

This idea has been ''suggested'' several times now, and even mentioned by the darkorbit developers several times. Now I agree that darkorbit is getting empty and that servers are getting less populated, but it's not dead... Still, something needs to be done. Whether or not this is a server merge? I don't know.

First of all I'm not sure a server merge will solve the problem: there is a reason that darkorbit is getting empty. And that reason is not because it's getting empty, because let's face it, yeah some people leave because there are less players around, but at the same time, I feel like a lot of players left because of the actual problems we are facing: Insane high cost to get anywhere, high amounts of damage and shields, huge differences between beginners and advanced players, almost no rewards for helping other players (what has become of ''loyalty event'' that was announced at the end of 2014???

All these problems do not only cause players who already play the game to walk away, they also prevent new players from joining. And this causes more people to leave and this causes a dead server.

Even with after a server merge, there will probably be a short increase in joy untill the above problems take the upperhand again and the game WILL die (most likely in less than 2 years). So we need to solve the core problems first! Moreover, I believe that even if we solve these problems, servers will become more populated on their own, without the need of a server merge.

And last but not least, did anyone ever consider how hard it is to pull of a SUCCESFULL server merge / swap? Here some things you have to take into consideration:

    • In regards to being able to switch yourself: balance, how will balance look when people switch server? Clans will be ripped apart, friendships will be lost, players might actually quit because of that.
    • And what if you make the wrong choice? How do you even make the right choice, if everyone switches how will you ever be able to land on a server with a big population if that population changes every day, or every month, or even every 6 months! If you've just given up half your EP / honour, you will probably not enjoy the game for a while if you have to do it again.

  11. Pretty much all the normal servers are about the same for English. If they were to do a merge, a hard merge of servers would be best but the main problem is players that play on multiple servers. What happens to the duplicates? We have already seen what happens to the duplicate ships on a single account and server with the hanger change, but lets say you play on 4 that get merged together. That's a lot of time and work that you don't get compensated for IMO.

I really don't think the economy will be affected that much outside more players being there at a time. On the other hand, players have switched to other servers just to get away from the rifraf that were on their old server. For them to have to deal with them again, players will leave for good rather than go through the mess again.

Perhaps if D.O. produced a farming only server I'd be interested in going there if PvP were confined to just the battle maps for those willing to engage in it.

I've always liked the idea of PvP being an invited option, the same way you invite others into an outfit.
Make it like a fight club, or an event instead of some coward cloaking and attacking a farmer in a weaker ship or with their shields down and low Hp.
