[UI] Escape pods and distress beacons

  1. Escape pods and distress beacons.

    Anyways I think it is kinda lame that once you die, in space....not a single engineer thought of escape pods? Once you get taken out by lag, or an enemy, or some dumb mistake, you cannot get into an escape pod? Or escape pod, and launch pod?

    Launch pod would be if you didn't get to an escape pod, you instead get launched from your ship in a weaker cabin pod. Like the observation deck detaches and tries to send you away from battle....but the escape pods should be stronger than the launch pod.

    So a player has the choice to leave the battle in an escape pod, or wait till all their health is gone and automatically gets launched into space in a weaker cabin pod.
    This would add a level of security and stress to the game, especially if you could launch yourself, your human character from an escape pod, but only has like ten seconds or thirty seconds of life because of space conditions....and your space suit cannot handle it....so you only have a limited time. And-or if your time ran out you could be put into a cryo stasis. Frozen until a player arrives.

    Now without a way to actually die and restart at your base, this would suck if no one helped you....but a distress beacon probably would not be ignored. It would be interesting though if enemies could hear distress beacons and saved you and forced you to swap factions, which would make suicides or the ability to allow the player to run around on an enemy ship and fight, a cool feature.

    Personally I think death should be less of a, "oh well you died, get back out there soldier!", and more of a "oh no...what will happen now?", kind of thing.

    Not permanent death, not at all....but I think the game needs:
    Distress beacons and escape pods of various strength.....for larger ships.

    Distress beacons as an added extra so you could lure other ships to you, or ask for help, or if you were a large ship and it was destroyed you just get sent into a mostly useless escape pod, that is weak, but you could upgrade it or buy a better one. Or use your escape pod as a weapon packed with explosives, but once you launch it you don't have another, or very large ships could have two or three.

    Or if a friend dies you could pick up their escape pod and drop them off at base, or something.

    I know I should make comparisons, but FTL was a good game.
    If you could drop off a team player on an enemy ship, who could then run around and try to take out that ship....or control it, that would change the game considering you would have players trying to own enormous alien ships. It would make clans mean something if you could have a crew of people on one ship.
