[UI] Game Mechanics... A New Frontier

  1. Hey, guys and gals,

    So I was sitting down thinking about the game mechanics... And the risk vs. reward system of DO. Right now, the best possible income per hr in the game (plastic not included) involves either cubes or boxing. Cubes for those with ammo/tenacity/will-to-pvp, and boxing for those with doubler, or those looking for a more easy-going income system.

    That's pretty limited.

    Sure, you can do Kristallons, or maybe some Ubers... You could. But you're pretty likely going to lose more in ammo than you'll gain in uridium/credits. Either way, Kristallons and Ubers are not a reliable (or good) source of income.

    Let's be honest, DO is a business, and of course they want to make the income/hr moderately low so they can continue to make money from the wallet warriors (I'm not knocking wallet warriors, I'm one of them). It's a fact. But come on... things are maybe, just maybe, a little stale.

    So maybe a couple changes could be implemented to make the game more fun (and a weee bit more rewarding)? These two changes go somewhat hand in hand:

    1) Introduce a handful of new maps. Nothing extravagant... 3 is plenty. (Perhaps replace the outfit gate? Since the buff it's become pretty much useless, for farming purposes OR for fun purposes). Let's call them PvM maps. Where all you do is basically play DO's version of farmville. You can hop into those maps, and people of all companies can co-exist peacefully... NO PvP allowed. You can just hang out and kill some little NPC's. Do some boxing here and there. 3 maps is perfect, honestly, because it allows for 1 for each company, but you can inter-mix (no PvP allowed, so it doesn't matter who's where).

    2) Introduce a handful of other maps. Again. 3 maps is perfect. Maybe you can get away with 2. Let these be 'high risk, high reward' PvP maps. NOTHING but PvP. No boxes, no NPC's. Nothing like that. Just straight PvP.

    With a twist.

    The way these maps would work is by introducing a 'bounty' system. You enter the maps, and you get a bounty placed on your head. Let's say you start small. 100 Uridium bounty... You get killed, and the victor gains 100 Uridium. For weaker players, perhaps 50 Uridium as a starting bounty. And then as you continue to win, your bounty increases by, say, 10 Uridium per kill. So if you've won 3 fights, your bounty (to be clear, the price on your head) is increased to 130 Uridium. Maybe you could tweak it and increase by 20 Uridium for high level PvP, and 10 Uridium for low level PvP. But then if you die, your bounty resets to 100 Uridium. Two maps here, one for high level PvP (you can choose to enter this one if you're a low level player, but the odds of you winning anything are next to nil), and one for low level PvP (you can only enter this one if your level is lower than a designated amount, say 17).

    3) Make small, random events based on these maps. For the PvM maps, introduce 'minigames.' Spawn a special NPC once every hour on the hour that, I dunno... gives 1 round of x4 ammo for every 1k dmg you put into it. Something fun like that. For the PvP maps, introduce a 'wild-card.' Every 10, 20, or 30 minutes, someone on the map is going to have a random 1k Uridium bounty placed on their head, but they do double damage in PvP. Like a Juggernaut type thing.

    I feel like this idea is a good way to incorporate both non-combat (some people play darkorbit strictly for PvM) and hardcore combat (some people are all about cutthroat PvP) in a fun way. It's more rewarding for both parties, and it might revive a little bit of the interest in this game.

    good call the game is small you can fly all around it in a short time +1 from me and maybe add a few new npcs

    I LOVE it. I would base the uri reward for the pure PvP maps on overall ratio though instead of streak - you can get 3-4 from a clan tag teaming someone and really kill a streak. But if it's overall K/D for those maps, you get some competition to see who can get best, and the top players must always be on their game to prove they earned their bounty. :) But yea best idea I've seen in a long time, +1 here. Both maps are things I think we NEED in game ASAP.
     
  4. I like this bounty pvp map thing, it sounds like a lot of fun, and could really get people active. Honestly DO needs it, but i say make it an event... Like, once a week... Slightly increase the starter uri, and maybe make it 50 per kill, and it could get spicy in those maps. Make a level system too, so pushing isn't a thing. Plus if it's an event, they could monitor it or something.

  6. It's a Great idea, but We need ALOT of new maps... With their Storyline so it will be actualy Interesting to Fly to those maps.

    We dont need just more PvP based maps, We need Hell alot of maps, The game fells very limited... not just For UFE's/FE's, But New maps For Newbies or Low players, they want to play too.

    Add 15 New maps For Lower Sector (5 New maps Per Corporation/Company), Aswell as New maps For the Upper sector, Like 9 New maps, (3 maps Per Corporation.) Also add a new Sector, Call it Hyper maps for Example, They Contain very Powerfull aliens, With Great rewards aswell.

    And not just Those same Aliens we have now Such as Alot of Weak that you ill in 2 Shots And Only 1 alien with Tons of HP, make the aliens have Unique Abilities, Like Did The Skoll From the Cold wave had, Or the Imperators that you face in the hades gate, But Not Powerfull abilities like they had, But sligtly weaker...


    And yeah, New PvP Maps would be nice, Where you get only PvP, but make that each Kill gives you X Amount of Uridium In Those Maps.

  7. for your first map suggestion, x-2.... thats it, second idea, eh i could see it, and i really like the juggernaut type event, but....buttttt i can see this taking a long time to implement, if they even take it as an addition, and the bounty, that needs to increase more than 20 uri a kill, or at least be exponential
     
  8. I think i calculated some stuff a while ago, and as long as you dont use ecos on little lords and strueners, using lasers LF-2 and up, x1 ammo, 2026's, and ecos. You can make good uri/credits without losing any on any aliens, Idk where you got that from.
    But +1 on your idea on new maps for vs'ing each other. We already have TA that gives you 500 uri and is also broken, who wants 50-100 uri on first kill?
    There's also another map for when you can just chill and pop aliens and such without PVP but its single company only, used to be popular now died out and yes im talking about invasion gate.

    I see it as to how these events will not be created as for we the people of my server has stopped participating in events that people once dominated like how no one goes in TDM or invasion. DO still got alot to fix on TA :l

    Another way you can make money is pally, otherwise just plain box even without any doubler, just use spear in your 4-x battle boxing map, and go in cloaked. Always pay attention to minimap and use ulticloak when enemy dot comes nearby.
     
  9. I would like this idea more, if it actually had more bases for a bounty system it would be great in all. What keeps UFE from hunting because either they get bored or run out of ammo, the ones that do have ammo to last years dont really need the uri. While this might make smaller player fight more for the uri they would just go kill a BK much easier and a less waste of costly ammo to get around the same amount.

    We rarely do most of the pvp events now. The parasite tide event was half pvp and we still only had a hand ful of competition on my server on the pvp side.

    Most smaller people would run out of ammo at some point and it would not even be worth the 100 or so uri increases to fight most peole with the amount of ammo people would use to kille UFE and smaller ones.
