x-1 is dead. Deader than dead. Not even the noobs go there, except when they get popped, and then they get out quick.

Make bonus boxes in enemy maps worth more - even as much as battle maps. Give people incentive to stir the maps from the bottom up. Something to rally around.

And to balance that, make people start caring about defending their home map again by keeping a running weekly tally of how many boxes were collected by enemy players in their x-1. Maybe even expand it to x-2.

Have 2x-shield boost stations in each quadrant for defenders in the core company maps where boxes are enhanced. Add a concession stand. :p

Rewards at the end of each week would be (for instance - could be different):

    1. Most boxes collected - +5% honor for the week (or even just a day)
    2. Second most boxes - no reward/no penalty
    3. Third - negative 5% honor

So, there's a reward for defending your home map (aside from the fact that IIRC PvP rewards are doubled (?)), and a penalty for not defending it.

Already proposed in mid October and thread closed due to lack of activity, x-1 maps are in principle a DMZ and for this idea to work the protection on the x-1 maps would have to be removed thus killing off any hope of much needed new players joining the game.

    Thanks for commenting.

It does remains a DMZ until a player from the home company attacks, so protection would still remain for new players as long as they don't initiate anything. It might however bring more higher level players down to protect their x-1 map and earn the extra reward for x-1 kills.

I guess one complication is that enemy companies would be sucking up all the boxes from the lower level players (not that I see much of anything going on in x-1 anyway), but maybe a set of boxes could be coded to be visible/picked up by only players of the lower levels.

Or just stop thinking like a pansy and offer these reward boosts in the upper maps where you may have to work for them.

  5. x-1 is technically a safe map for all players to just wanna rest, no need to improve it, lower maps to higher maps technically get harder, so no need to raise anything.

  6. Not if you are the enemy - you can't rest there, but in your own homebase x-1.

What's with calling it pansy? It creates an incentive to defend your home map, and gives a reward for doing so (and a penalty for not). As for boosting rewards in the upper maps, I think that's long overdue too. But that's a different idea.

It's seems weird to me that in gameplay there's supposed to be three companies in competition, but there's nothing all members of the company can rally around and defend (I suppose Capture the Beacon comes closest to the concept). Logically, it seems like the company's home base should play a core role in that, somehow.

Maybe it would be better as an occasional event, that lasts either for all of one day, or a few hours, like Invasion. Call it "Base Attack" or "The Great Box Robbery." :D

It is a noob slaying event for cowards to make more off of padding their kill ratios against the weak or unprepared and idiots to embrace as a good idea.
Let's see how many of both agree.

Protection doesn't change for beginners. They would only get shot if they start shooting first. Same as it is now.

I was a noob when the only DMZ in the whole map was the home base, and there was a ton of action going on. As I got a little bit stronger, it was actually fun to wait for a stronger player to take on an invader, and then pile on to the fight myself.

If nothing else, wouldn't it make sense to show new players to what it can be like? The DO nurseries today are dead boring and it looks like nothing is going on. Not a great welcome mat to the game.

Consider the fact that there are now mixed clans who have NAP's and alliances with other clans across the company's and also all the clan wars that are going on. All this would do is turn the X-1 map into a free lunch for high level players as they will not be shot at by fellow members of there sister clan or anyone in there alliance. Jump gates have always had a DMZ since day one the only exception was the battle map in the old dark orbit. The reason for the X-1 protection is to give new players a chance to get going in this game also once a new player as reached a certain level bonus box rewards get reduced and once a player as reached the maxim level for collecting cargo and bonus box's on the X-1 rewards are no longer paid thus players must move on to collect on the X-2 map and upwards. There is no need for a change in the bonus box's and pay outs for enemy ships as there are plenty of other options for getting rich. There is and old saying greed breeds greed.

That would be a concern, and there is more of a blurring of lines than there used to be, company-wise. Things are probably more clan-centric in that regard and clans have the CBS.

I thought it might draw members of a company together and create more movement in the lower maps, mainly. It's not about greed, just fighting to keep another company from taking what belongs to my company, and the reward/penalty associated with how well you defend it.
