[UI] Intergalactic Expressway

  1. Using jump credits when your zipping around the Orbit seriously adds up over time, I've went from 1,000 or so jump credits to 600. Even if you don't have jump credits, flying around the Orbit becomes tedious--flying from the base across the x-1 map, then across x-2, to finally get to your x-3 or x-4 map takes a lot of time, especially if you're a new player playing in lower maps, don't have full speed generators, and you die a lot.

    To fix this I propose we have intergalactic expressways that connect portals to each other on only company specific maps, which increases the speed of your ship, with the exception to a company's x-1 map, 4-4, 4-5, and B-maps where there will be no highway.

    Full Idea:
    • Expressways will increase your speed by x % to travel across the map faster, also can be used by players to escape from invaders, but will drain shields by x % per second.
    • Expressways will be marked as light shade of yellow on the mini-map, and on the actual game screen it will appear as a brightened yellow path; the color is really arbitrary though, pick whatever you want.
    • Expressways will have no bonus boxes or NPCs around them; you will haft to go to the middle of the map to 'compete for resources;' such killing NPCs, collecting resources and bonus boxes for example.
    • Expressways will only be connected to the portals horizontal and vertical to each other, around the borders of the map, not adjacent or through the map; players who play in mid-map where all the resources are will be in the more dangerous dark orbit where there are no highways.
    • Expressways are only able to be used on a player's own company's maps, players cannot use enemy company highways. (I am iffy on this actually )
    Criticisms:
    • If resources, NPCs, and boxes are in the middle of the map, then will it make botters easier to kill? Or will bot developers invent a way for the bot to fly to an expressway to escape?
    • If newbie players have to fly to the middle of the map to do quests, will invaders be able to locate and destroy them easier? Or do you think this idea will make new players actually be able to survive easier?

  2. Expressways sound like a good idea. But it should be nothing else other than to get around; don't add quests and extra things to do.

    Just set your destination, and once you enter, you cannot exit until you reach your destination, or revert back to your starting point -> Prevents users from chasing down others with a "speed advantage." Sure, shields would drain, but that won't stop a UFE/experienced player.
